Thai cat - reviews about the breed

Origin story

Thai cats are close relatives of Siamese cats.
A breed similar in appearance was first described in the 14th-15th centuries, in ancient manuscripts about cats, and it was called Vichien Mae. According to legend, they lived only in the royal chambers, protecting members of the royal family not only from snakes and dangerous rodents, but also from evil spirits. They had an amazing feature: a very dense skin, which contains a minimum of nerve endings, which made them particularly insensitive to bites and wounds. Due to this, the pain threshold was lowered, and the infection did not spread as quickly as in others. Cats were forbidden to be exported outside the state, but once the king of Thailand himself gave a couple of clear-eyed purrs to the British ambassador as a sign of special favor. The kittens created such a sensation that the ruler sent several dozen cats to the British court.

Initially, the breed was called the “Royal Siamese”, but during active breeding work in the 19th century, another breed was developed, differing in body shape, facial features and color. The first standard was drawn up in 1990, and registration with the WCF organization was carried out in 1991.

At the first exhibitions in Leningrad and Moscow, Thai cats were exhibited under the name “Old Siamese”.

Reviews

Oksana: I have a very funny and talkative Thai cat. We sleep together, have breakfast in the morning, wash our faces and do all the getting ready together. Follows me like a little tail and looks into my eyes. Wherever I go, she is in sight. He loves to play and be cuddled. But if you offend her, she remembers it for a long time and may even bite.

Elena: They gave me a Thai kitten - a bandit. It runs around the house all day long, jumping onto furniture and grabbing the upholstery with its sharp claws. I've removed the curtains for now out of harm's way. I hope when he grows up he will become calmer. In general, he is sweet and handsome. He eats natural food well and quickly learned to use the litter tray.

Tatyana: About three years ago we adopted a Thai cat from a shelter. At first they wanted an ordinary kitty, but I really liked this one, it stood out compared to the others. At first, in the new house, she behaved cautiously, she was afraid of us and hid. Gradually she came out and became interested in us. Now we are her best friends. I did not regret choosing this breed. She is well-mannered, will never allow herself to spoil anything, and goes to the litter box regularly. He only eats dry food and canned food, and he won’t refuse meat. Sometimes I walk her on a leash, it probably looks funny from the outside.

Standards

The standard approved twenty years ago is open, which means that any cat that matches its appearance can be classified as a Thai cat. If the registration documents contain 2 expert signatures, the animal is allowed for breeding.

StandardDescription
ScullAlmost round, with a convex forehead and a clear transition to the nose. There are no flat fragments or corners on the head. "Stop" is missing. The colder it is in the room where the cat lives, the more the color of its coat changes: it becomes darker.

Appearance

The ideal Thai cat is a medium-sized cat, of a strong but elegant type, with a round body and good muscles:

  • her head is beautifully rounded, without depressions or flattening;
  • forehead, cheeks and profile with a soft convex line, have strong outlines;
  • The slightly curved nose should preferably be at eye level. Stop is unacceptable. The tips of the nose and chin form a straight line;
  • the muzzle is not angular or pointed, but slightly rounded, proportional to the size of the head, well developed, emphasizing the roundness of the external contours;
  • the neck is medium or short, strong and muscular;
  • The ears are medium in size, wide at the base, with a rounded line on the inside. They are located more on the sides of the head than on the top. Very small ear tassels are acceptable;
  • The eyes are of medium size, almond-shaped, with the upper eyelid having the shape of a crescent, and the lower one having a rounded curve. Set wide and slightly oblique (inner corners slightly lower than outer corners);
  • eye color is bright, blue, uniform;
  • the body is medium to large in size, males weigh about 5–6 kg, females 3–4 kg. Foreign body type with developed, strong muscles. Solid appearance with good structure and slight curvature of the back line in profile from the chest to the rear;
  • The limbs are muscular, proportional to the body in length, and form a rectangle with the body. The feet are slightly rounded;
  • the tail is of medium length, proportional to the body, somewhat wider at the base, pointed at the end;
  • The coat is thin, close-lying, but not flat, with a slight undercoat.

Externally, the Thai cat has changed little since the beginning of the 20th century.
Common faults found in Thai cats include:

  • strabismus;
  • dark spots on the stomach, back and sides;
  • white stripes or individual “stitching” hairs on points (brindle);
  • knots at the end of the tail;
  • sloping or too massive chin;
  • presence of white spots or toes;
  • eye color other than blue;
  • crease of the tail.

Color

The standard allows all acromelanic (color-point) colors, but without white spots (type ... & white):

  • seal point;
  • blue point;
  • cake point;
  • cream point;
  • chocolate point;
  • lilac point;
  • red point;
  • seal tabby point;
  • blue tabby point;
  • red tabby point;
  • tortie-tabby-point.

Silver variations are also possible (for example, seal-silver-point, red-silver-tabby point, etc.).

Color-pointed animals should not be given seafood or liver as they cause their coats to darken.

The most common color of Thais is seal point.

The markings of the Thai Blue Point cat are deep gray.

Only females are endowed with the tortie point color.

The cream point color is characterized by delicate beige spots on a white background.

Chocolate point cats have dark markings against an ivory coat.

The pink tint of the spots can only be distinguished in daylight

The red point color is characterized by red spots on the white coat.

The muzzle, paws and tail of Thai seal tabby point cats are decorated with stripes

The blue tabby point color suggests the presence of gray stripes

Red Tabby Pointed Thais have red stripes, especially clearly visible on the tail.

Character and behavior

Smart and quick-witted Thais are not without reason called the “intellectuals” of the cat world. They are open to everything new, explore the world around them with curiosity, and until their death they retain childlike spontaneity and curiosity. And you can’t deny Thai cats a royal sense of dignity. Once in an apartment, Thais will immediately single out that same leader - the dominant member of the family, and will kindly give him most of their attention and generously shower him with affection. The cat will also not ignore the rest of the household, but it will only truly miss its leader when apart.

The talkativeness of Thais is a quality that can be viewed both negatively and positively.

The Thai cat masterfully knows how to convey all his emotions through a whole range of sounds and intonations: he knows how to thank for a delicious dinner, ask to change the tray, swear, rejoice, threaten, talk about what happened during the day each time in his own way. And believe me, this is indescribably funny.

Thais have a keen sense of their owner's mood. Having realized that a loved one is angry or sad, they will act exactly according to the situation: run to him to calm him down or hide further away to wait out the storm.

Which cat's smile walked on its own?

SiameseCheshire

Curious animals will not leave “blank spaces” on the map of their home. Everything will be examined: right down to the space under the bathroom and the piles of dust on the cabinet. Therefore, be prepared for the fact that your cat will either singe its whiskers from the stove, or get its nose pinched by a box, or fall from a height. But such an experience - even if it was painful - does not teach a Thai anything, alas, and he will stubbornly continue to do exactly the same thing.

Thai cats love to watch what is happening on the street from the window. And it’s not easy to watch: it often happens that an animal, trying to catch a bird or a butterfly, falls from a great height and falls to its death. Therefore, either do not open the windows, or install special strong nets in the openings.

Thais love children. Even small ones that can hurt the cat. Thai cats happily play with babies, hiding their claws, and you can leave even very small toddlers with them without fear.

Thais are great at entertaining themselves, but self-sufficiency borders on amazing affection for people. Therefore, the main thing is that he is nearby, then the cat will tolerate both short-term loneliness and a change in life environment.

Gets along well with other cats and dogs, but perceives rodents and birds as prey.

This breed is not recommended for allergy sufferers!

Expert opinion

Dusheba Vera Ivanovna

In 2010, she graduated from the Moscow State Academy of Veterinary Medicine named after K.I. Scriabin with honors, specializing in veterinary medicine. I regularly attend veterinary conferences, congresses, and webinars.

A fussy Thai cat can be calmed down by splashing cool water on it. There is definitely no need to behave aggressively, otherwise the cat will take note of this and begin to repeat after you. Hide valuables, important documents, medicines and wires away, buy your pet new toys from time to time - this will protect your environment from destruction.

He pees everywhere on the bed, on the carpet everywhere except his toilet. I regretted 100 times that I started it.

I read the negative reviews... I felt ashamed of these people, especially those who “gave away” (I think betrayed) their pets. My miracle (I named him Darren) appeared to me 4 years ago at the age of 2 months. Everything that is written about this breed is true. But let's not forget that every animal, like a person, has its own individuality, its own character. Darka and I went through everything: torn wallpaper, making ekkibano from rolls of toilet paper and documents, destroying indoor plants, a period of increased biteiness (until he was 2 years old, it lasted for about a month - he slept in an embrace with his own slipper, because this there was only one argument, otherwise he simply didn’t let me sleep and gave me a wake-up call at 5 am, regardless of the day of the week), a toilet in bed (and now periodically in this way they make me understand that I’m wrong) and much more. I believe that every animal, regardless of breed, requires an individual approach. Of course, it is better to immediately make it clear who is the alpha in your family, but at the same time do not constantly suppress the cat. In general, over 4 years we have studied each other’s character, habits and habits quite well. He defended his right to walk on his own (fortunately, the 1st floor goes out the window and comes back through the door. He managed to train all the neighbors to accompany him to our doors and call to have them open. He visited half of the entrance, and that’s how I met most of the neighbors) . I have never trained him, but at the moment he clearly makes me understand what he wants. If he needs to go outside, he comes up and lightly bites my legs, if he wants a tasty treat, he runs his paw along my leg without letting go of his claws, as if stroking it (his main food is dry, the tasty treat is spiders, usually given for good behavior), but if he wants me I went outside with him - he stood on his hind legs and hugged my leg tightly with his front legs. During this time, he taught me not to leave documents and papers in his access area, to put jewelry directly into the box, but at the same time there are enough open surfaces in the house where there are figurines or vases. He walks freely on these shelves and has never broken or even thrown them off. But when I put the headphones with MP3 on the shelf, they immediately ended up on the floor. This cat understands everything perfectly, but acts exclusively as he wants. I treat him like a member of the family. my alarm clock is set 15 minutes earlier - because the first thing I see when I open my eyes is Darya, who is waiting for me to wake up and take him in my arms with the obligatory scratching, then feeding him and then taking care of myself. I have allergies, including to animal fur, when the doctor told me that I needed to get rid of the cat... well, he doesn’t tell me that anymore. If you can set yourself up to treat your baby like a child who needs care, care, and love, then everything will be fine with you)

Advantages:

  • Soft, dense wool
  • beautiful color
  • affectionate.

Flaws:

  • It's lazy.

I got a Thai cat in 2004; in my experience, the breed requires a lot of attention to itself, is picky about food, sometimes allergies arise from some foods. As for their behavior: They get along well with children, and are suspicious of guests.

Flaws:

I used to always have cats, but after my last beloved cat disappeared, I decided that I didn’t want any more pets.

And then for my birthday they brought me a small, white lump in a carrier.

With the arrival of the kitten, the house became so much fun. It was true that it was difficult to raise at first. Then she grew up and began to understand everything, but she still ruins the wallpaper. She was immediately toilet trained. As for food, there are no special problems. He eats mostly dry Royal Canin food (doesn’t eat anything else), buckwheat, loves oatmeal very much, and eats it for breakfast with me : -D doesn’t particularly like dairy products.

At 7-8 months she was in heat, these were terrible screams and screams that did not stop day or night, but we endured it (3 days)

I really like this breed. Playful, beautiful, sociable, understanding. You get so used to it that even when you let it out for a walk outside for a day, it becomes empty (

If you decide to get a Thai cat, you will not regret it, because you will have another friend)).

Advantages:

Flaws:

  • Aggressiveness
  • excessive cleanliness

The animal is active and extremely aggressive. You cannot touch it, we warn guests immediately. She chases all the guys away, I can’t even meet my friends near the house, since we live on the first floor, and she watches. He constantly rushes around the corner, scratches, and if you pick him up he can seriously bite him. We are tolerant of our neighbors' children, but we try to stop contacts, because if they scratch us, we will have to answer. She is picky about food, willful, and clean. Before biting, lick your hand thoroughly. If you pet it, it will first scratch and then lick the place you touched. You can only iron if she comes herself.

Real version of the kitten from the cartoon "A Kitten Named Woof"

A very beautiful chic breed. Charming blue eyes, simply mesmerizing. The character is simply wonderful, affectionate and smart. Perfect for a family with children and other animals. The Thai breed has one amazing feature: when they are born, only the tips of their ears, nose and paws are black, with age they become darker and darker. I had such a cat, although he was temporarily in my foster care, generally a problem-free animal and very smart, absolutely everything he was told. Just a find for families with children. It was such a pity to give it away, because it was simply impossible not to become attached to it.

Advantages:

  • beautiful

Flaws:

  • vindictive and with a difficult character

The beauty of the Thai cat is undeniable and cannot be doubted. But the cat is very picky about food; if she doesn’t like something, she won’t eat it until the last minute, until you throw everything out of her plate. Mine only recognizes one owner and cannot stand small children who want to cuddle her. I don’t recommend getting one for people with small children who don’t yet know how to communicate with pets - a cat can easily scratch a child’s face. But the cat will not offend those whom she loves in life. She recognizes affection only when she wants it, if she is not in the “mood” it is better not to touch her at all. loves to play, hunt birds, and also chase the neighbor's cats - he can't stand rivals, heats are infrequent - once a year, so it doesn't bother him too much with kittens. It should be noted that this cat does not accept other cats in the house - it will kill or demonstratively leave the house. If you plan to have several cats, it is better to take both of them small so that they can get used to the fact that both are part of the family. He likes to sleep in soft places - most often on the bed and takes up a lot of space - I usually sleep somewhere on the edge and the cat sleeps on the entire bed. In addition, the cat is very vindictive; if you offend her, she can pee on the bed, although she herself is very clean and knows perfectly well where her toilet is.

When we adopted the kitten, we had never even heard of this breed, we just liked the colors of cats) But when they brought the kitten, we fell in love with her kind disposition. True, the first impression was rather ambiguous: long, skinny, crazy, she got up at 6 am regularly (!), and climbed into all the uncovered holes (under the closet, etc.) everyone was afraid that she might climb in and not get out, but it seemed to work out ) In general, we couldn’t wait for this miracle to finally grow up) And now this miracle is 3 years old) very kind (all my friends, when they come to visit, take her in their arms and walk with her, and she absolutely does not resist this), nor never (! ) in her life has she hissed or growled at anyone, she purrs very often) She loves to “talk”) To sum up the above: a very kind and affectionate cat, but if you have a stressful time, it’s better not to get one, the animal is sociable and will get bored , you might even get sick.

Hello my dears!

Let me make a reservation right away: I absolutely do not presume to say that absolutely all cats of this breed are the same as mine. I am simply describing my personal experience of keeping this breed. The story itself

About 2 years ago we bought a Thai kitten from a cattery (all as it should be). “A wonderful cat with expressive eyes, a beautiful color, a miracle of miracles,” they thought as they took him home.

Sleeping little monster. There were no problems with training him to use the tray and scratching post; the cat, whom we named Chester, turned out to be a very smart and quick-witted boy. He was not picky about food, he was fed royal canin, but he could sell his homeland for boiled chicken. A predator, he is a predator. He was not afraid of strangers, sniffed them with interest, bit them on the hands and tried to play. Talkative and terribly smart, he constantly meowed something, and with expressive intonation). Handsome, you can't say anything

Now let's talk about the bad.

The problems began when the cat was 8 months old (after castration). Circumstances (force majeure) developed in such a way that we had to go to another place once a week for the night, and left the cat at home with a supply of food and drink.

“Nothing will happen,” we thought, until one weekend the cat peed on our bed.

If you have never jumped up at 6 am on your longed-for day off because someone wrote on you, then you will not understand the feeling we experienced!!! Now I write about this with a smile, but at that time it was not funny.

All bedding, including the blanket and mattress, had to be either washed or thrown away! Hoping for a miracle and pouring almost half the bottle of Antigadin on all this, I loaded everything into the washing machine. Everything was completely changed, the bed was treated with Antigadin.

The next weekend the story repeated itself, but on different bedding. And then it started happening during the day. The cat had access to the toilet, but he chose to “go” on our bed.

I called a bunch of consultations, talked to the breeder, got a bunch of advice, but nothing helped. It's funny to remember

but we hissed at him, and left my husband’s “smelly” T-shirt to show who was in charge, and completely changed all the underwear so that there was no provoking smell.

Everything was to no avail. This went on for about 3 months. In the end, our nerves gave way, we found new owners and gave Chester to them. Someone may condemn, they say, I had to endure and fight.

Yeah, try to be patient when you wash the mattress 3 times a week BY HANDS, because it doesn’t fit in the washing machine! With all this, he remained affectionate, purred, caressed, but continued to take revenge. And whether it was revenge for the fact that we were leaving, or whether this had already become a habit for him, now we will no longer know.

We could not not leave, force majeure, force majeure circumstances. There was no way to take him with us.

My personal conclusion: we were not prepared for such a complex breed and simply could not “pull it down” in time. I will never get a Thai cat again and I don’t recommend it to anyone, we couldn’t handle it. I’m posting a couple of photos, you can admire the appearance of this “angel”.

And there, just like in the song:

“Think for yourself, decide for yourself, To have or not to have.”

Advantages:

  • Affectionate.

Flaws:

  • He marks everything and yells like a fool.

My cat is already 10 years old. A good, affectionate boy... but there is one very serious inconvenience - while he was young, he was a lighter, playful, affectionate. Having passed the 10-year mark, the cat began to manically mark everything in the house, he is not deprived of intimacy - his wife is always at hand, but apparently that’s not the point. So I run after him with a rag, wiping off the stains. We tried to punish - it was useless!!! (by the way, he had never marked before!) We love the cat like a child - well, what can we do - cleaning every day using different methods. And he started yelling like crazy in the morning at 6:00.

Our handsome guy came to our family at the age of 2 months, and we immediately fell in love with him, even my husband, who never liked cats, simply did not leave his side.

Our pet's name is Bublik, it's a cat-dog-child rolled into one, our breed is Thai Bobtail. When the kitten was half a year old, we moved from the apartment to live in a private house, so the cat immediately revealed itself in all its glory; it turned out to be a lover of climbing trees and generally frolicking on the street.

There is a forest next to the house and our whole family goes there and I am the husband and the bagel in front is like a dog. Thai cats are the most affectionate and loyal, they love their owner very much, and are very talkative. Moreover, they always ask to play with them, have a drink, or let them go outside, in different tones, and they are also very cunning. Every evening when my husband comes home from work, we sit down for dinner, a bagel always sits between us and starts begging, he eats any food poorly, but he can never refuse meat, he lives next door to the cat Yoska, he feels like a favorite, so he allows himself to always run around home and dump everything on the floor.

Thai cats are the best in the world (for me) and by the way, they are not at all offensive, they can look penetratingly into the eyes with their blue eyes for ten minutes and purr melodiously. We don’t have children yet, so the cat is like a child to us, and by the way, this child is already two years old))) I forgot to add the cat gets along very well with children)).

Girls, my first review, I mixed up the branch of a bobtail and just a Thai cat, don’t judge too harshly.

I have known my Leon since the first hours of his birth. It so happened that I didn’t want to part with him, and when all the kittens were distributed, my parents allowed me to keep my boy. Let me say right away that he is a real man. I chased all the yard cats and dogs, regardless of breed and size, while I was young. Now he is 14 years old. He eats fish, soup and basically anything you give him. He loves potatoes, both raw and baked and fried. When I was little I didn’t really like to play, but now this colossus rushes around for candy, laces, small balls and toy mice. He and the cat caught all the real ones a long time ago. We live on the first floor. These rodents used to gnaw passages towards us from the basement. Now I'm a student, but my devoted cat comes running to the sound of my voice every time I call my parents. And when I arrive, he sleeps only with me. By the way, he sleeps great, with his head on the pillow or on my arm, and he definitely needs to be covered with a blanket. When there were kittens, he, like a true caring father, came to them and washed them, endured squeezing and seeking milk from him)) By the way, he treats children with all the patience. But we do not allow our cats to be pulled by the tail or hurt, so they only pet him.

I advise everyone to get this wonderful breed! Or better yet, two at once!

Care instructions

There are no difficulties in caring for a Thai cat. Kittens get used to the scratching post and litter box instantly, but the curtains are used by little pranksters as swings. It is better to raise it higher at first.

Wool

Thai cats do not need to be brushed frequently. Buy a regular natural bristle brush or mitten, spend 10-15 minutes a week on your cat, and your pet will look quite well-groomed. Remains of fur can be collected with a damp hand.

Bathing

These cats do not like to bathe, so keep the number of procedures to a minimum. If a cat gets into the mud during a walk, before an exhibition or before giving birth - that’s all, enough.

No human shampoos! Only special products for animals: “Bars”, “Clandestine” or any imported shampoo.

Ears

The ears are cleaned weekly by soaking a cotton pad in cool boiled water (or hydrogen peroxide) and removing dirt and lumps of wax from the auricle that have accumulated there. You cannot pour anything inside, otherwise the cat will develop otitis media.

Claws

If your cat walks a lot and climbs trees, she doesn’t need to trim her claws; they grind themselves down just fine. But pets need help with this. Once a week, trim the claws a couple of millimeters, being careful not to touch a blood vessel.

Teeth

Domestic cats often have problems with their teeth. Under natural conditions, cats can clean themselves, but in an apartment they also need the help of their owner. Buy cat paste (for example, Beaphar, Zubastik, Hartz) and a toothbrush (you can also use a piece of gauze wrapped around your finger) at a pet store, and brush your cat’s teeth for 1-2 minutes, using smooth, gentle movements from top to bottom.

If your cat categorically refuses teeth cleaning procedures, or is very afraid, take her to the veterinarian for laser cleaning once a year. And for prevention, drop a special gel into the drinking water, and give cleansing pads or chewing sticks from time to time.

Care

The Thai breed does not require special care. To keep a pet, it is enough to follow the usual procedures and actions that are necessary for keeping all cats. The house should have a scratching post, a tray, a brush for combing, and dishes for food and water.

The Thai breed does not require special care

The shedding of pets is almost invisible. It is enough to brush a Thai cat once a month. Pets tolerate the procedure calmly, and can even use their back for the brush. Cats do not need frequent bathing. To keep your pet clean, wipe it with a damp glove once every six months.

Catering

Kittens under 4 months of age are fed 4-6 times a day, from 4 to 6 - 3-4 times, over six months - 2 times a day. Food should be fresh, at a comfortable temperature (not from the refrigerator or hot), in sufficient quantities. The same applies to water. Wash bowls daily.

Natural products

Natural food is not everything you eat yourself. Soups and cereals from your table are not suitable.

List of permitted products:

  • Dairy products: curdled milk, kefir, sour cream, low-fat cottage cheese, Varenets, hard unsalted cheese, natural yogurt. You can give whole milk, but only if the cat does not have a negative reaction to it: constipation or diarrhea, vomiting.
  • Boiled chicken yolk, whole boiled quail eggs.
  • Raw or cooked (the first option is preferable) meat: chicken, veal, beef, rabbit, lamb or turkey.
  • By-products: chicken necks (ground into minced meat), gizzards, hearts.
  • Porridges from the following types of cereals: rice, oatmeal, lentils, buckwheat, millet.
  • Stewed or boiled vegetables: carrots, pumpkin, zucchini, broccoli, green salad, asparagus, herbs (dill, parsley).
  • Fruits: apples, melons, pears.

Seaweed, liver, iodine and some seafood (shrimp, squid, oysters) are not suitable for Thai cats, as they cause darkening of the coat.

Sprouted wheat (oats) stands apart. A cat needs fresh grass to empty its stomach of fur accumulated there. While licking, the animal swallows a few hairs each time, and if they do not come out, they will turn into a trichobezoar and will cause inconvenience to your pet. When a cat eats grass, it burps and spits out fur.

You cannot give sweet, smoked, salty, spicy, fried, pickled foods. Chocolate, tomatoes, legumes, citrus fruits, eggplants are real poison for cats. Bones, even boiled ones, can pierce the stomach and intestines; lard and fatty meat are difficult and take a long time to digest.

Recommended food

When choosing ready-made food - no matter dry or wet - be guided not by advertising slogans, but by reason. Cheap food, by definition, may not have enough necessary components. Read the ingredients and see for yourself: instead of meat, there is meat waste (only the manufacturers know what is hidden under these), artificial preservatives, and added dyes and flavor enhancers. There are either no minerals, vitamins, real meat and vegetables at all, or their quantity is simply ridiculous. Such feeds belong to the economy and premium groups.

But the food from the super-premium and holistic groups makes a much better impression. Ingredients: dried vegetables, fruits and berries, a sufficient amount of fish and meat, only natural preservatives and no dyes or other dangerous chemical components.

Holistic foods include: Gina Elite, Naturea, Orijen. Super premium food: Arden Grange, Brit Care, Landor.

Diseases

Thais, according to statistics, live 15-18 years, but many cases have been recorded where cats lived to be 20 or even 25 years old. They have strong immunity and good heredity, so don’t be afraid of genetic diseases. Exceptions: tail defects and strabismus (the latter can be a temporary problem, a so-called ailment “feature of childhood”, and goes away with growth, or due to severe stress).

But, like any other cat, the Thai is still susceptible to infections, may suffer from worms, and suffers during the spring “rut.” So remember:

  1. Don't neglect vaccinations. Even if your pet has never been outside in its life and you don’t plan to take it out. Pathogens can enter the apartment along with the usual food, in water, on the soles of shoes or the edges of clothes, or on dirty hands. Therefore, vaccinate your pet on a regular schedule.
  2. Thai cats mature early: at 5 or even 4 months. But this does not mean at all that you need to urgently look for a “groom” or “bride”. Early pregnancy will not benefit the animal, and it will certainly affect the health of the kittens. Wait up to a year.
  3. There is also no need to rush into castration and sterilization. In any case, do not rush to put a kitten under the doctor’s knife until it is six months old: both the operation and the healing period are a burden on the body and a certain danger. But waving your hand at the cat, saying, let him yell at himself, is also not a method. Hormonal surges lead to the fact that with age, cats often develop oncology (in particular, mammary glands), and sterilization significantly reduces this risk.

The rest is the same as everyone else. Poor-quality nutrition affects the teeth, gastrointestinal tract, and appearance; excess food causes obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and poor-quality water causes kidney problems.

The lack of a full undercoat makes Thai cats vulnerable in cold weather, so prepare a warm vest or sweater (for walks on cool days). Protect from drafts and dry with a hairdryer after swimming.

In 2010, she graduated from the Moscow State Academy of Veterinary Medicine named after K.I. Scriabin with honors, specializing in veterinary medicine. I regularly attend veterinary conferences, congresses, and webinars.

When choosing a kitten, make sure that it has a straight, thick tail and fur without white spots, clear eyes, and no runny nose. Thai mother cats are very careful about the hygiene of their children, and if the baby’s tail is clean and dry, then everything is fine with his tummy. Chat with your kitten: if he is active, playful, not afraid of other people's hands and smells, and reaches out with curiosity to new toys and people - everything is fine. Look at the documents: a three-month-old kitten (you can’t adopt him before) must have his first vaccinations.
