Description of Yam BK ointment
YAM BK ointment is a drug that has antibacterial and antifungal effects. This medicine contains salicylic acid, petrolatum, turpentine, zinc, sulfur and tar. Additional components:
- phenol-free coal tar creolin;
- lanolin.
The medication is available in the form of an ointment, which is convenient to apply to the skin. The composition does not flow down, as it has a thick consistency. The brown ointment may disintegrate slightly during long-term storage. However, after mixing, the product acquires a normal consistency.
YAM BK ointment is active against fungi and bacteria
The components of the drug have a number of useful properties:
- dry the skin and eliminate the inflammatory process;
- contribute to the death of blood-sucking parasites;
- destroy fungal spores;
- soften the skin;
- destroy pathogenic bacteria;
- promote skin regeneration processes;
- prevent the absorption of toxins.
The medicine is safe for cats, does not weaken the immune system, and does not increase the sensitivity of the skin to external irritants.
Storage conditions and price
During long-term storage, the composition of the ointment may change and layers may appear in it. The separation of the drug does not affect its healing properties. After use, you need to close the lid tightly so that as little air as possible gets into the jar. YAM BK ointment for cats should be stored in a dark, cool, dry place. The drug is valid for 2 years. Suitable storage temperature is 0–30 °C. Medicines that have expired or become unusable are thrown away.
Note! YAM BK ointment is considered one of the cheapest medicines. A jar weighing 50 g can be bought for about 100 rubles.*
The ointment may separate, so it should always be stirred
In what cases is the drug prescribed?
The ointment is used to eliminate ringworm, dermatitis, eczema and other skin diseases in cats. The drug is also prescribed in the presence of mites and scabies. The medicine is used only after diagnostic procedures, since many skin diseases in pets have similar symptoms.
Ringworm in cats is a contagious disease.
Attention! If your pet has bald patches, the skin is irritated and scratched, and general health is deteriorating, this may indicate the presence of a fungal infection, which is easily transmitted to humans. It is important to contact a veterinarian in time and isolate your pet from contact with other animals and children.
Rules of application
Before starting treatment, the ointment must be mixed thoroughly. The product should be at room temperature. The course of treatment lasts from 4 to 10 days. The duration of therapy depends on the disease and is determined by the veterinarian. It is not necessary to cut the hair before applying the product. If there are crusts on the skin, they should not be removed. You can apply the product directly on top of them; this will not affect the result of the treatment.
The drug cannot be used after the expiration date. In addition, the medicine should not be frozen or overheated. The ointment can be kept in the refrigerator or at room temperature, which does not exceed 30 degrees.
Required amount
For all types of skin lesions in a cat, the same amount of product should be applied. The dose does not depend on the age, weight and breed of the pet. The ointment layer should be uniform and thin.
Application order
It is necessary to treat not only the affected area, but also the healthy one (going beyond the boundaries of the lesion by 2–4 cm). This is necessary to prevent the infection from spreading to other areas. The product should be rubbed in gently, but not pressed too hard. Treatment should be carried out 2 times a day, using a cotton swab or gauze swab.
Yam ointment has a thick consistency
If there are significant skin lesions during application of the product, the pet may experience discomfort and break out, so it is important to carry out the procedure quickly. In this case, it is recommended to stroke the cat and talk to it in a calm and affectionate tone.
For dermatitis in cats, ointments were used for treatment. Since the lesion was large, applying the product was very inconvenient and took a lot of time. In such cases, I recommend that you always resort to the help of another person, because the cat can easily break free and run away during the procedure. In addition, if the affected area is the stomach, then it is best to purchase a special blanket, since the animal can easily lick the product and become poisoned.
Precautionary measures
Rules that are recommended to be followed:
- Before starting the procedure, wear gloves. Do not apply ointment with bare hands.
- Purchase a special collar that will prevent the cat from licking the product or touching the affected area with its claws (if it is on the withers).
- If there are many lesions, then the product should be applied sequentially starting from the withers area.
- Avoid getting the ointment in the eyes and mucous membranes.
- Do not treat your pet's skin in the genital area and anus.
- It is recommended to apply the medicine at regular intervals.
Protective collar for cats to prevent licking of medicine
Attention! Combing a cat's fur is contraindicated until it has completely recovered. Otherwise, the infection can easily spread to healthy areas.
Step-by-step instructions for use
Advantage for cats: instructions for use
When the diagnosis of lichen is confirmed, veterinarians prescribe Yam BK ointment; instructions for use for cats are included in the package with the medicine. You must strictly follow it and do the following:
- There is no need to cut the fur or remove crusts on the skin. First, mix the ointment thoroughly.
- Apply a thin layer to the sore spot and cover another 2-4 cm around the damaged skin.
- Rub the ointment into the skin and coat with light movements. Don't press too hard.
Treatment is carried out 1-2 times a day until the crusts separate. As a rule, the course of treatment lasts 7–10 days, but sometimes the crusts fall off earlier.
After completion of treatment, 10 days should pass. Then the cat needs to be re-tested for lichen. The veterinarian takes a scraping from the skin at the sore spot. If, according to the results of the analysis, an infection is detected on the skin again, treatment with YaM ointment is continued.
If the pathogens remain on the skin, the course of treatment is repeated
Personal prevention
It is necessary to observe hygiene rules when working with medicine. It is advisable to apply the ointment to your pet's skin while wearing rubber gloves. Before and after use, you should wash your hands with soap. During the entire course of treatment, you should not remove the cat's collar. Under no circumstances should this product come into contact with the mouth, eyes or nose of a cat or person.
Important! You need to put on a medical (Elizabethan) collar on your cat, which will prevent the animal from licking itself.
Overdose
An overdose of the drug may cause skin irritation or chemical burns. If this happens, you need to urgently show the cat to the veterinarian and replace the ointment with another, gentler medicine.
The collar will prevent the cat from licking the ointment
Adverse reactions and contraindications
Undesirable symptoms when using this ointment are rare. Sometimes there are reactions of individual intolerance to components, especially birch tar, which can cause allergies in some cats. The following symptoms occur:
- itching;
- burning;
- redness of the skin in the area of application.
The drug has no contraindications, since in most cases it is very well tolerated and does not have a toxic effect on the animal’s body.
If your cat suddenly develops an allergic rash and the itching intensifies during treatment with ointment, it is important to consult a doctor immediately. You can also give your pet antihistamines, such as Suprastin, Tavegil, etc.
Features of use in pregnant cats and kittens
The medication can be used to treat pregnant females after prior consultation with a veterinarian. The drug is not contraindicated for the treatment of kittens, as it is safe and is not absorbed into the bloodstream. During lactation, the drug is also allowed for use, but you need to monitor the nursing pet’s reaction to the medicine.
YAM ointment can be used to treat kittens
If, during ointment therapy, a pregnant cat develops an allergic reaction and appetite worsens, it is recommended to stop using the medication and replace this medication with another drug.
Indications for use of Yam BK ointment
You cannot independently prescribe treatment for an animal and use Yam BK ointment without consulting a veterinarian. Even with the same symptoms, the diagnosis may be different, so a comprehensive examination and scrapings for analysis are necessary.
The main indications for prescribing Yam BK ointment for animals, according to the instructions, are:
- eczema and dermatitis caused by sarcoptoid and psoroptoid mites;
- trichophytosis;
- scabies;
- microsporia;
- various types of lichen.
Lichen
Attention! It is important to make a diagnosis and begin treatment as early as possible due to the fact that many of these diseases are transmitted to humans. If there are other animals in the house, the risk of contact infection increases several times.
When prescribing the frequency of treatment with the drug, it is necessary to take into account the age and weight of the pet, the presence of vaccinations, the results of scrapings, and body temperature.
Advantages and disadvantages of the product
Advantages of the ointment:
- No toxic effects on the body.
- Can be used to treat elderly and emaciated animals.
- Low cost.
- Gives quick results due to the presence of active components in the complex.
Disadvantages of this tool:
- The drug has a pungent odor that your pet may not like.
- It is inconvenient to apply if your pet has long hair.
- Fatty consistency. After the course of treatment, the pet will have to literally be washed.
The criterion for cure is the growth of hair on the affected areas, elimination of redness and peeling of crusts. Even if the pet has fully recovered, it is necessary to visit a doctor for a second scraping.
Ointment YAM BK
I learned about this ointment on my favorite Airek. This review and the results of the review author were very inspiring. My problem, of course, looks a little different, but the essence is still the same - acne, closed comedones, but I practically never have any obvious focal rashes (unless I pick it up myself). I can’t say anything about the presence of demodicosis, but I think that it doesn’t exist - judging by everything that I found on the Internet.
I was looking for ointment for a very long time. I went around all the pet stores in our city, and everywhere they just shrugged their shoulders. And in one case, the seller actually gave me an ointment with an expired expiration date (although she warned me about it) with the words “oh well, what will happen to it” - the shelf life of the can expired back in August 2013 (a little less than a year, as this can should was to rest in peace in the depths of some landfill)…. And only in one of the last pet stores, a kind girl salesperson told me that I didn’t need to go to a pet store, but to a veterinarian. klieiku (I'm such a fool!). In the first branch. At the clinic, a doctor’s assistant sold me this ointment, wondering what kind of animal was ailing me, and I hastened to retreat, taking the treasured jar.
Of course, there are no instructions (why would there be any - animals can’t read anyway))))). And I started using it, following the advice of the good irek. In the evening, after thoroughly cleansing my face, I smeared this “my beauty” all over my face and from the very first day I began to wait for the results. I smeared it before bed for a couple of hours, because... It’s simply impossible to leave THIS on your face overnight - it seems to me that if it gets on your bed linen, it will keep this terrible aroma for the rest of its life......
I saw the results on about the 3rd day - a fairly decent number of all kinds of rashes came to visit me. “Well, I think, it means it definitely works - it pulls all the crap out of me” - that’s exactly what I needed. Then there was a break while the hot water was turned off, during which all the rashes safely disappeared. And when I turned on the hot water, I picked up the ointment again - and again all the rashes returned to me. But I decided to endure and steadfastly endured all the hardships associated with the use of this remedy.” All this lasted for about a month, during which I managed to draw the following conclusions:
1. For a whole month, the ointment in no way improved the condition of the skin on my face - the number of rashes increased and they replaced each other like officers at the eternal flame - not leaving me for a second.
2. My already wide pores have become even wider (it feels like the ointment has clogged up in them and settled on the permanent pores, making them even wider.
3. The skin on the face was peeling, although the ointment itself was quite greasy in consistency
4. Insane stench - when I applied it to my face, I almost immediately began to feel sick, but I happily endured it (which you can’t do for the sake of beauty), and then it turned out that all this was in vain, it turns out.
5. Great difficulty in washing off. The first time (when I had not yet appreciated the advice of “experienced people” on washing it off) - I suffered with it for half an hour, trying to wash it off with tar soap and clay and oatmeal and micellar water - but the unpleasant sensation of this fat still remained on my face. A little later I I found out that the easiest way is to wash it off with tonic.
6. No less difficult with application. Initially I tried to apply it with a cotton swab - it’s not convenient and never economical, half of the product remains on the cotton swab and you can’t get it from there. Next I tried with a cotton pad - also not an option. Then I used a plastic spatula, which I use to apply masks - it also turned out to be wrong and I had to throw away my favorite spatula - it stubbornly refused to wash off this terrible aroma. In the end, there was nothing left to do but apply it with your fingers. And because My fingers are distinguished by long nails, so I didn’t want to get my nails into this horror (otherwise I would have to cut them off - it’s simply unrealistic to pick out this ointment from where along with its aroma). I used a wooden stick (for rolling) to pick out the ointment from the jar and apply it with my fingers, which were then also difficult to wash off - wiping with alcohol helped.
The only thing that can more or less please here (well, to at least somehow tune in to an optimistic mood) is the low price of 100 rubles for a 20g jar. - at least the money wasn’t spent too far. Everything else is a complete disadvantage, for me personally. The ointment didn’t work at all, but I’m still glad that I tried it - I satisfied my curiosity and now I know exactly what I shouldn’t take.
