HEPATOVET

COMPOSITION AND FORM OF RELEASE

Hepatovet is a complex hepatoprotector for the treatment and prevention of liver diseases in dogs and cats in the form of a suspension. 1 ml of suspension contains as active components: essential phospholipids - 60 mg, methionine - 100 mg, L-ornithine - 50 mg, milk thistle extract - 15 mg, immortelle herb extract - 15 mg and excipients. In appearance it is a homogeneous suspension with a specific odor for oral use. Packaged in dark plastic bottles of 35 and 50 ml, which are packed in cardboard boxes along with a dosing syringe or measuring cup.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Hepatovet improves the functional state of the liver, especially the organ’s ability to bind and remove toxic compounds, preserves and restores the structure of liver cells, accelerates the process of restoration of already damaged heptocytes, and normalizes the ammonia content in the body of animals. Essential phospholipids stop the development of tissue fibrosis, have antioxidant activity, perform a transport function, and increase the activity of enzyme systems. The essential amino acid methionine has a hepatoprotective effect, activates the action of a number of hormones, vitamins and enzymes, reduces the concentration of cholesterol in the blood and increases the content of phospholipids. L-ornithine restores liver cells and is involved in the process of binding and removing ammonia from the body. Milk thistle extract is characterized by high antioxidant activity, has a membrane-stabilizing property on liver cells, increases the functional ability of liver cells to synthesize, detoxify and excrete various biological products, and supports the resistance of hepatocytes to various pathogenic influences. Immortelle extract reduces pain in the right hypochondrium, eliminates flatulence and colic. Hepatovet, in terms of the degree of impact on the body of warm-blooded animals, is a low-hazard substance and in recommended doses does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic, carcinogenic or sensitizing effects.

INDICATIONS

Prescribed to dogs and cats for the prevention and complex treatment of acute and chronic liver diseases of various etiologies, including after poisoning, infectious diseases, as well as to reduce the risk of side effects of chemotherapeutic agents prescribed to animals that have hepatotoxicity.

DOSES AND METHOD OF APPLICATION

Before use, the bottle with the suspension should be shaken thoroughly for 1-2 minutes, and then given to the animal individually with a small amount of food or forcefully into the oral cavity using a dosing syringe 2-3 times a day for 3-5 weeks, in doses per animal according to the table:

How does Hepatovet work?

Lecithin slows down the process of destruction of liver cells. Phospholipids included in lecithin restore ion exchange, improve tissue respiration of liver cells, and normalize lipid metabolism.

Gamavit for cats: dosage and instructions for use

Methionine helps restore lipid metabolism, reduces cholesterol, prevents fatty liver, and prevents the development of dystrophic changes in liver tissue. Methionine helps normalize metabolism and has hepaoprotective and disinfectant properties.

Ornithine activates the elimination of toxins, helps repair damaged cells and reduces fat content.

Milk thistle extract is one of the most effective herbal remedies for treating the liver. Contains the active substance silybin, which stimulates the formation of proteins in damaged liver cells, promotes cell restoration, protects them from harmful effects, and prevents further destruction. Has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.

Attention! Hepatovet contains dry milk thistle extract (content: 15 mg in 1 ml of suspension), a strong natural hepatoprotector, which is used in medicine to combat hepatitis, hepatosis, toxic liver damage and even in the treatment of cirrhosis in humans.

Immortelle herb extract stimulates the production and flow of bile. Has an antispasmodic effect on the bile ducts.

Hepatovet for dogs

The drug Hepatovet is hepatotropic and is used for the prevention, treatment and restoration of liver cells. In fact, animal livers have an extraordinary ability to repair themselves, but only if given adequate support. In agreement with the veterinarian, Hepatovet can be used as a feed additive during treatment of the animal with other aggressive medications.

The liver is a unique organ that performs quite complex biochemical functions, including the breakdown of nutrients isolated from food into coenzymes suitable for absorption by the body. It also produces essential amino acids, enzymes, platelets, vitamins, proteins and cholesterol. But the most important function of the gland is detoxification. It is the liver that takes the brunt of the impact when toxins of organic or inorganic origin enter the dog’s body.

Hepatovet is a suspension that helps not only to regenerate damaged liver cells, but also to cure congenital and acquired disorders, as well as speed up the recovery of the dog’s body after endo- and exotoxicosis.

The instructions for Hepatovet for dogs say that the suspension can be used if the dog has the following symptoms:

  • change in the color of the whites of the eyes (yellowing);
  • discolored, oily stool;
  • vomit;
  • belching of bile;
  • loss of appetite;
  • bloating (not just in puppies).

For prevention, the suspension can be given to absolutely all dogs that are regularly treated with insecticides (for fleas and ticks), as well as pesticides (for internal parasites). Also, the liver is very negatively affected by preservatives, dyes and synthetic additives contained in low-quality feed.

In consultation with your veterinarian, Hepatovet can be given to dogs undergoing treatment with steroids or cortisone. Since the above medications directly affect the liver, the suspension will significantly reduce the degree of damage.

Possible contraindications

According to the instructions, Hepatovet cannot be used if the pet has:

  • individual intolerance to any of the components included in the product;
  • hepatic encephalopathy;
  • epilepsy.

Ignoring these contraindications can lead to serious consequences for the health of the animal. Under unfavorable circumstances, a frivolous attitude towards these restrictions can cause the death of a pet.

Hepatoprotector Pharmstandard-Leksredstva Phosphogliv forte - review

Despite the smiley face in the title, the result of such “animal testing” is more objective for me than testing the effectiveness of the medicine on my own skin. Because what I can say in most cases: my subjective feelings. And since the dog can’t tell me anything about his health, he has to undergo regular tests. And the numbers in the analyzes “speak” for him. And these numbers say that Phosphogliv works.

A year ago, my dog had an accident - a stomach volvulus. Intoxication, general anesthesia, strong postoperative drug therapy, incl. Antibiotic therapy. Naturally, this could not but affect the liver.

3 weeks after the operation, a full examination began. The test results were much better than they could have been in our situation, but they showed that it was the liver that suffered the most.

The normal ALT level in dogs is approximately 10-55. Of course, different laboratories have different analyzers and, accordingly, reference values differ somewhat, but on average the numbers are the same.

For us this figure was 125 units. Not so bad that heptral should be dripped, but the need for a hepatoprotector is obvious. Chronic heppatitis was also visible on ultrasound. From the description of the results of an ultrasound scan done in the fall: “the liver is not enlarged, the echogenicity of the parenchyma is increased, the vascular pattern, the portal vein are unchanged.”

What name comes to mind first when hearing the word “hepatoprotector”? Of course, Essentiale!

So, my dog took Essentiale Forte N for 5 months. 4 capsules per day (large dog, boxer). I didn’t expect quick results (especially since I read somewhere that you need to take Essentiale for at least 2-3 months). But there were no results either after 4 months or after 5: ALT remained at the level of 120 units, plus or minus 10 (all other indicators had already returned to normal, only this one remained).

And then one good veterinarian, in response to my complaint that they had already eaten a ton of Essentiale, but it was of no use, said something like the following: Essentiale itself is a very good and effective drug. But now it is very difficult to buy real Essentiale - pharmacies are full of fakes.

The same doctor advised feeding the dog “Phosphogliv” - a domestic analogue of “Essentiale”, which is not so popular, and therefore it has not yet been counterfeited.

In general, other things being equal, I prefer imported medicines. But there was nothing to lose, and I immediately bought Phosphogliv.

Imagine my surprise when, after 2 months of taking Phosphogliv, ALT dropped to 78.6.

And a month later it was already 52.2!

At the same time, the ultrasound picture also improved. Signs of chronic hepatitis are still visible, but (ultrasound done in June): “the liver is not enlarged, the echogenicity of the parenchyma is heterogeneous, foci of increased density are visualized, the structure is homogeneous, the vascular pattern, the portal vein is unchanged.”

I note that we did not take other medications for the liver, the diet did not change, and other medications and supplements also did not change. It is also hard to believe that an old dog (we are already 10 years old; for reference, the average life expectancy in the breed is 9 years) suddenly decided after half a year to grow a new liver.

From that moment on, the doctor ordered me to take Phosphogliv in courses: drink for a month, rest for a month.

Then, out of stupidity, I dewormed the dog - instead of the safer Dosalid, I gave it the more effective Milbemax, and ALT jumped to 86.1. In addition, deworming occurred during a month of rest from Phosphogliv. But now we are accepting it again, we will soon take the test again, and for some reason it seems to me that the desired figure will be more pleasant. Then I will update this review. Update: The tests returned to normal after 2 months. In the fall, there was a deterioration again after a course of antibiotics for urethritis and cystitis (ALT - 91, AST - 60), after a month of taking Phosphogliv, ALT was already 69.3, a month later - 50.4.

I’ll also clarify that we take tests in 4 laboratories (“Pasteur”, “Neovet”, “Artvet” and “Nukleom”), usually it depends on whose courier has already been called at the clinic. And we have long been convinced that the numbers are approximately the same. If some numbers seem suspicious, we immediately transfer them to another laboratory, etc. That. the probability of error in the given figures tends to zero.

It is clear that if the liver is really bad, and only Heptral will help, phospholipids will not be of any use, be it fake Essentiale or real phosphogliv. In all other cases, don’t waste your money! I'm about 9t.r. I threw it away, and the unfinished pack of Essentiale is still lying around in the refrigerator. The box, by the way, looks as it should, with a hologram... But inside, as it turns out, is bullshit.

Unfortunately, it is profitable to counterfeit expensive and popular drugs. Therefore, you need to be vigilant and sometimes check the effectiveness of treatment with tests.

Be healthy!

Spiders are best suited for this; they smell similar and are quite liquid. Ours was accustomed to natural medicine, and here, in the third week of treatment, problems began to arise: the cat stopped liking the taste of Hepatovet and had to use his imagination to push the medicine in. But it was worth it. After the course of treatment, the cat became more mobile, and his stomach, especially where the liver used to protrude, became smaller.

Preparing the cat for sterilization. They donated blood and the doctor advised me to start giving Hepatovet. It happened yesterday morning, I immediately wrote to the children, they bought the medicine when I came home from work, gave her the second dose, and this morning the third. And the cat suddenly began to eat intensely. In the evening they poured her a full bowl (drying RK for coons), in the morning the bowl was empty - this has never happened before. In the morning I poured a new portion for her - I attacked the food as if she had not been fed for a week.

Composition and effect on the body

The drug can be called conditionally natural, since it does not contain aggressive synthetic components, and also contains herbs. The drops are based on distilled water. Among the active ingredients:

  • methionine (100 mg.);
  • essential phospholipids (60 mg);
  • ornithine (50 mg.);
  • marin thistle (15 mg.);
  • sandy goldenflower (15 mg.).

Methionine is a neutral, genetically coded amino acid that is not produced in the dog's body. However, methionine is one of the ten so-called “essential” amino acids that must be present in the diet of every animal. Methionine directly contained in Hepatovet:

  • prevents hair loss, itching and skin rashes caused by liver diseases;
  • acts as a lipotropic (helps the animal’s body break down fat faster);
  • reduces cholesterol levels in blood plasma;
  • increases lecithin production;
  • improves the speed of transport and bioavailability of selenium and zinc.

Methionine itself does not restore liver cells, but significantly improves its functional state.

L-ornithine directly fights hepatic encephalopathy, hepatitis, jaundice, and cirrhosis.

Essential phospholipids in Hepatovet:

  • improve the functioning of the gland;
  • normalize the enzymatic activity of liver cells;
  • reduce the level of toxins already accumulated in the liver;
  • promote the regeneration of damaged cells;
  • convert neutral fats and cholesterol into compounds that facilitate their metabolism;
  • stabilize the physical and chemical properties of bile;
  • normalize protein metabolism;
  • have an antifibrinolytic effect.

Marina thistle extract (popularly known as milk thistle) has been added to Hepatovet for the purpose of detoxification. Many official studies indicate that milk thistle itself is quite effective in treating most liver diseases in dogs. The extract will not improve the functioning of the vital organ in any way, but it will significantly reduce the risk of further damage to liver cells as a result of exposure to toxins and other synthetic medications. Exposure of literally any unnatural component to a dog’s body negatively affects the liver. Milk thistle is designed to quickly and effectively remove all toxins that have entered the gastrointestinal tract.

Milk thistle cleanses the liver very quickly and effectively, resulting in a significant reduction in the amount of active drug ingredients entering the bloodstream. To avoid an unintentional decrease in the therapeutic concentration of the drug, it is prohibited to give the dog any other drugs containing milk thistle along with Hepatovet.

The herb extract of sandy golden flower (popularly immortelle) has unique restorative properties and ensures the regeneration of damaged liver cells, normalizes ammonia levels and restores the structure of hepatocytes.

Features of use for the treatment of pregnant, lactating cats and kittens

The manufacturer of Hepatovet does not indicate that it is dangerous for kittens, pregnant and lactating cats. This means that the medicine can be used to treat them. Since the instructions do not indicate that there are any special admission conditions for pets from this category, they must be treated according to the standard regimen.

The product can have a qualitative effect on the body:

  1. Restore liver cells.
  2. Support liver function during the process of eliminating various toxins.
  3. Reduce the amount of ammonia compounds inside the body.
  4. Promote the process of activating the enzyme system.
  5. Reduce fibrous degeneration of some tissues.
  6. Influence the antioxidant process.
  7. Eliminate all pain, colic and flatulence in the pet’s body.

Essential phospholipids act during absolutely any liver deformation. Such cell elements successfully restore water and fat metabolism in the body, protect the organ from fatty degeneration, and restore all the cells that are in the liver. During the work of phospholipids, the process of increasing the number of glycogen throughout the body occurs and the process of protein metabolism is normalized.

L-ornithine takes an active part in the process of regeneration of body tissues, as well as the removal of ammonia components; Insulin production increases and the optimal acid-base balance is restored.

Methionine is considered a pronounced detoxifier, which acts as an essential amino acid. Involves the process of the enzymatic and hormonal systems in the body. Significantly increases the amount of phospholipids and reduces the amount of cholesterol.

Description of the veterinary drug Hepatovet

Milk thistle (herb extract) contains high-quality anti-inflammatory and choleretic properties. Quite a strong antioxidant, improves the structure of cells inside the liver, and has a general strengthening effect on the body.

Immortelle plant extract significantly reduces pain symptoms, eliminates spasmodic actions, vomiting, and flatulence. Also, along with this, the components of the herb have a positive effect on bile secretion, the viscosity consistency inside the bile decreases.

This medicine should be prescribed as a whole with other medications or separately:

  1. During any disturbance in the functioning of the liver in a chronic, as well as particularly acute form.
  2. After suffering severe poisoning.
  3. During and after the end of infectious diseases that occur with severe intoxication of the entire body.
  4. During, as well as after the end of the course of using a drug with high hepatotoxicity, long-term chemotherapy treatment.
  5. During the recovery of the animal’s body after helminthic infestation.
  6. Restoration of the liver after the end of a long period of improper feeding of the pet.

Features of the use of Hepatovet in cats

Hepatovet, like any other suspension, tends to “settle”, so the medicine must be shaken well before use. The suspension can only be given orally. In general, Hepatovet smells like raw beef liver, so most cats accept it willingly. However, the manufacturer has provided for cases when an animal refuses to swallow an incomprehensible liquid:

  • you can use a spoon or syringe and inject the suspension directly into the mouth (closer to the throat);
  • It is possible to add the required dose to wet food.

My sister has a cat, Donut. A couple of years ago he was diagnosed with urolithiasis. By hook or by crook, the cat was cured, although he had to be put on a diet for chronic renal failure. Closer to recovery, the veterinarian prescribed Hepatovet. The suspension was supposed to mitigate the undesirable effects of drugs on the liver. But Donut refused to swallow it. To “shove” a single dose into the pet, they bought him delicious wet food. The cat quickly realized that this was a trick. Attempts to pour the medicine with a spoon ended in a dirty cat's chin and scratches on the hands of the head of the family. Judging by our experience, only a syringe helps.

Cat body weightSingle doseDaily dose
Kittens and cats up to 3 kg1 mlup to 3 ml
Animals from 3 to 6 kg2 mlup to 6 ml
Big cats from 7 kg3 ml7–9 ml

Treatment regimen

Typically, the daily dose of Hepatovet is divided into 2-3 doses (for example, in the morning, at lunch and in the evening). Treatment can be long - up to 5 weeks . The shortest duration of therapy is 21 days. If necessary, the course can be repeated after 15–20 days. Before doing this, it is necessary to consult a veterinarian - perhaps the drug should be replaced.

Features of use in pregnant cats and kittens

The undoubted advantage of the drug Hepatovet is that it can be used to treat kittens, pregnant and lactating cats.

Contraindications and side effects

Despite the fact that the main purpose of Hepatovet is the prevention and treatment of liver diseases, it is prohibited to give the essence to dogs with very severe liver failure. With progressive hepatic encephalopathy, a significant deterioration in the animal’s condition is also noted. The essence is also contraindicated for dogs suffering from epilepsy. Reviews from veterinarians about Hepatovet for dogs indicate that among the side effects, only intensified salivation is noted (the problem disappears by itself 15-20 minutes after taking the drops). In rare cases, allergies or individual intolerance to individual components of the drug develop.

Diet and food for liver diseases

Gastritis in cats: symptoms and treatment at home

For any form of hepatopathy, the diet is prescribed and adjusted by a veterinarian. The brand of food, volume and number of servings, as well as the use of auxiliary products are determined based on analyzes and forecasts.

Indications for use of the drug

Hepatovet for cats is prescribed in the following cases:

  • for acute and chronic liver diseases (hepatitis, lipidosis, cirrhosis, etc.);
  • as an adjuvant in the treatment of helminthic infestations;
  • during the use of tablets that have a toxic effect on the liver (for example, during treatment of cancer);
  • in the presence of infections that are characterized by intoxication of the body.

Hepatovet is a complex drug that has a pronounced effect, so it is not recommended to use it without consulting a veterinarian. If it is not possible to take your cat to the clinic, at least call the veterinarian on duty.

I have long made it a habit to keep the veterinary clinic’s business card in a visible place. One of them lies right in the first aid kit with cat medicines. And the second one (with the veterinarian’s mobile phone number) hangs on the refrigerator. This is also very convenient because noticing the business card every day makes it difficult to forget, for example, about the next vaccination. By the way, you can keep the veterinarian’s notes right there.

Hepatovet to help your pet's liver

Store in a closed bottle in a dry place, away from sunlight and proximity to feed and food products. The air temperature in the room or holding compartment should be between 2 and 25°C.

The suspension can be used for 21 days after opening the bottle, and for 2 years in a sealed container.

  • 50 ml – from 350 rub.;
  • 100 ml – from 460 rub.

The drug is widely used in veterinary practice for the treatment of liver diseases, as well as the prevention of complications on the organ.

Directions for use

Hepatovet suspension is intended for oral use. It can be stored for 2 years at temperatures from +2 to +25 degrees, after opening - no more than 3 weeks.

When treating with the drug, the following rules of administration are established:

  • Shake the suspension thoroughly for 1-2 minutes before use.
  • The drug is taken orally by combining it with a small volume of food or using a dispenser syringe included with the drug. It is preferable to squeeze the product onto the root of the animal’s tongue or into the cheek area, this speeds up swallowing and reduces taste sensitivity.
  • The frequency of use per day is 2-3 times.
  • If you miss a medication, you do not need to double the dose; you should take it in the prescribed dosage according to the standard regimen.
  • Duration of therapy is 3-5 weeks. Repeat treatment - after 2-3 weeks.
  • The dosage of Hepatovet is determined individually, based on the weight of the cat. With a large mass, the frequency of administration can be increased.

Standard doses of the drug for cats are shown in the table, according to the instructions:

Animal weight, kilogramSingle dosage, millilitersPermissible dosage per day, milliliters
until 31No more than 3
3-62No more than 6
From 7 or more3No more than 9

When answering the question, is it possible Hepatovet for kittens, the answer is positive, provided that the dose is observed (no more than 2-3 milliliters per day). The drug is also approved for use by pregnant cats, as it does not have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. It is compatible with feed and additives, and other medications.

How to store

The suspension in a closed bottle is placed in a cool place or kept at room temperature, the optimal range is from 2 to 25 degrees. Do not place the hepatoprotector in the freezer: after thawing, the product may lose some of its beneficial properties.

The shelf life of the drug Hepatovet in a hermetically sealed container is 24 months. After the start of the course, the drug is used for three weeks; after the specified period, the remaining suspension cannot be used.

It’s easy to find information about Hepatovet on thematic forums related to dog breeding. In most cases, owners of four-legged pets confirm the positive effect of the combined hepatoprotector for liver damage in dogs. Hypersalivation is an adverse reaction to taking the suspension; the owners do not report other negative manifestations.

It is convenient that pharmacies have the drug bottled in bottles of different sizes. Analyzes confirm the effectiveness of treatment using a composition containing dry extracts of milk thistle, immortelle, lecithin, methionine, and L-ornithine. The cost of the drug is quite high if you recalculate the daily consumption of Hepatovet for dogs of large and medium breeds. When treating miniature pets, the daily dose is small (up to 3 ml), which reduces the cost of therapy.

The safe veterinary drug Hepatovet from the Api-San company is a useful addition to other drugs during the treatment of liver diseases in dogs. Maximum benefits, minimum side effects, proven effectiveness - the advantages of a hepatoprotector from Russian manufacturers. A suspension with a complex of ingredients and dry extracts of immortelle and milk thistle normalizes the functionality of the liver, on the condition of which the health of the entire body depends.

Restrictions

The suspension includes plant components, which ensures its safety for animals. As a rule, the medicine is well tolerated by dogs of any breed and age, and has no prohibitions for pregnant or lactating females. High efficiency is confirmed by positive reviews from veterinarians and pet owners.

Prohibitions on the use of the drug include:

  • epilepsy;
  • liver failure;
  • encephalopathy;
  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

Complications are extremely rare and can manifest as increased salivation. If you are hypersensitive to the components of the drug, allergic reactions are possible, in which case you should stop using the drug and contact a veterinarian.

Composition and pharmacological properties

The drug contains the following substances:

Active components:

  • methionine – 100 mg/1 ml ;
  • Essential phospholipids – 60 mg/1 ml ;
  • L-ornithine – 50 mg/1 ml ;

The complex effect of the constituent flavonoids, amino acids and phospholipids allows you to normalize the condition of the liver and its ability to detoxify due to the accelerated regeneration of its cells, helps restore the structure of hepatocytes, and also reduces the level of ammonia in the body.

Effect of the drug

The amino acid methionine, which is part of Hepatovet, allows you to quickly break down fat that comes with food, which has a beneficial effect on cholesterol in the blood, in addition, it promotes the production of lecithin and accelerates the transport of Se and Zn.

By normalizing the condition of the liver, methionine relieves skin itching and redness, and also reduces hair loss that was caused by problems with this organ.

  • L-ornithine accelerates cell regeneration, insulin production, helps neutralize the resulting ammonia, and allows you to achieve acid-base balance. Its purpose is to combat jaundice, encephalopathy, and hepatitis.
  • Phospholipids normalize the activity of liver enzymes, neutralize fats, cholesterol, and improve metabolism. They also remove accumulated toxins, stabilize bile levels and protein metabolism.
  • Milk thistle extract cleanses the liver and has a choleretic effect by removing toxins formed after food, infectious or drug intoxication.
  • Immortelle in the drug helps improve bile secretion, relieve spasms and pain, and vomiting. It also helps restore the structure of hepatocytes.

Indications for use

Hepatology may be prescribed by a veterinarian in the following cases:

  1. Liver diseases in acute or chronic phase;

General description of the product

The release form of heptral is a porous whitish powder (lyophilisate). This is the basis for the manufacture of solutions and tablets. Solutions are used for preparing injections, and tablets are used for oral administration. The tablets have a special coating that easily dissolves in the intestines. The concentration of useful substances is 5% of the total mass. For this reason, dogs are predominantly treated with injection therapy.

High-quality porous composition is packaged in bottles. The color of the mass is white or light yellow. Any inclusions or foreign impurities are unacceptable. The bottle comes complete with ampoules of purified water, sodium chloride and L-lysine. Mix before use.
