How does a cat show work and how to prepare for it?

March

Most recently, the wonderful Catsburg 2020 exhibition took place, which made a great impression on visitors. At the event, held on March 7–8 at Crocus Expo, spectators had a chance to see more than 50 cat breeds and more than 1,000 pets.

Interesting! The highlight of the program was the cat Victor, who became a celebrity after he was not allowed to fly on an airplane. There were many people who wanted to take pictures with him.

And a new March event is approaching - “Bast Moscow”. The exhibition and sale of dogs and kittens, planned by the Bast cat owners society for March 28–29, will be held at the Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Center in section No. 11.1.

Representatives of the most popular and reputable nurseries in Russia and the CIS countries will come here, so buyers will have a large choice. The organizers announce the provision of about 30 cat breeds.

April

The second month of spring is rich in cat shows in Moscow. The table shows the schedule of planned events.

What cats can take part in Domus exhibitions?

Any cat that is 10 months old or older can become a competitor. True, you need to meet some more requirements, which are similar to those that apply to purebred cats. First of all, the animal should not have any health problems. Secondly, the animal must be visibly well-groomed and in good shape. Pregnant and lactating cats, as well as animals whose claws have been surgically removed, are not allowed to participate in the exhibition, as well as cats with excessive aggression.

At every show there is a class of domestic cats called Household Pet (HHP), or simply PET.

However, there is one significant difference: all outbred cats, without exception, must be sterilized or neutered. And this requirement is not at all a whim of the organizers. This is an elementary felinological responsibility, which requires that the breeding of animals be carried out by professionals who have undergone special training.

May

An exhibition of cats and cats is planned for May in Moscow. The event, called the Moscow Crystal Cup, will take place on the 10th–11th in section No. 11.1 Sokolnikov. The organizer is the club association “Constellation”.

Preliminary WCF program:

• ring – mature cats;
• ring - kittens;
• ring – castrated cats;
• one breed show;
• entertainment shows.

Important! All show cats undergo strict veterinary control. The owners have veterinary passports and documents confirming the pedigree of the animals.

Why are domus exhibitions needed?

Organizers of outbred cat exhibitions have several objectives. The first of them, and probably the main one, is the promotion of kind attitude towards animals and the education of responsibility and care towards them.

Cat shows are now held in almost every city.

The second goal is to bridge the gap that has formed over the years between owners of purebred and mongrel cats, despite the fact that both share a love for cats.

Exhibitions are a real holiday for all cat lovers and an opportunity for all lovers of these animals to communicate, sharing experiences and emotions.

It must be said that owners of purebred animals also come with pleasure to such events (albeit as spectators), because they understand that outbred cats are no less beautiful than purebred ones.

June

On June 12, the second “Cup of Russian Systems” will take place in Moscow in the 2nd (largest) section of Sokolniki. The popular event is held annually to determine the best cats in the country. The first presentation of the cup took place last year.

On the 27th–28th, the club association of cat owners “Valencia” announced an exhibition and sale of dogs and kittens “KoShariki”. The details of the project are still unknown. Estimated opening hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Here you can buy not only a pet, but also accessories for it.

July

The Bast cat owners club announced the organization of the next Bast Moscow exhibitions. The July events will take place on the 4th–5th and 25th–26th in the usual section No. 11.1 of Sokolniki. Estimated operating hours are from 1000 to 1830.

Exhibitions from the Bast organization in Moscow promise to be grandiose. Representatives of the most famous and respected catteries in Russia and neighboring countries will come to show the rarest, exotic, expensive, large and small breeds of cats.

Each visitor can buy a kitten he likes. It is expected that more than 400 kittens of 30 breeds will be brought to the exhibition. It will also implement:

• carrying;
• sunbeds;
• bowls;
• trays;
• toys;
• care devices;
• souvenir products.

On July 18–19, the association of clubs “Valencia” has planned another exhibition for the sale of cats and accessories. As always, it should take place at the Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Center. You can visit the exhibition daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

How to behave at an exhibition

At the exhibition, after registration, you need to arrange your exhibition place: attach the exhibition number according to the catalog, put a toilet in the cage and prepare the cat mentally. You need to calm the cat, talk, pet it. Believe me, your pet is even more worried than you.

Rules

Try to follow basic precautions:

• Treat the cage with a disinfectant solution;
• Avoid contact with other cats;
• Do not allow anyone other than a veterinarian and an expert to touch the animal.

Exhibition systems

Important: there are 3 types of exhibitions:

1. British,
2. American,
3. European.

Each exhibition system differs in the assignment of titles, methods of judging, and exhibition classes.

The European is considered the most popular in Russia . Depending on the age and position of the club, your show cat will be assigned to a specific show class.

Exhibition classes (in the WCF system):

• - Literary class. Litter of kittens from 10 weeks to 3 months of at least 3 animals. The entire litter is evaluated as a whole.
• – 3-6 months. – kitten class (nomination for the “Best in Show” competition is carried out among all kittens exhibited in this class and then the “Best Kitten in the Show” is selected without division by gender).
• – 6-10 months. – young class (the “Best young animal in the exhibition” is selected at the competition.
• – from 10 months - open class. The animal competes for the title CAC (candidate for Champion) and having received an expert assessment of the cat not lower than “very good”, and the cat not lower than “excellent”, the animal can be used in the breeding program).

October

A wonderful event will take place on October 3–4 in section 11.1 “Sokolnikov” - International Cat Show “Cat da VINCI 2020”. This is the eleventh large-scale project organized by the Felis pet owners club.

About 35 cat breeds are expected to be represented. Buyers will be offered more than 500 kittens from popular Russian and foreign nurseries. Interesting rings and competitions are expected.

Preparation for exhibitions

Before showing a cat to experts, it needs to be prepared. Starting from examination at the veterinarian and ending with preening. Visit the clinic and make sure your pet is healthy. Please be examined by a veterinarian before the show. Prepare in advance so as not to bring a sick pet to the show.

The cat at the exhibition must be completely healthy

First of all, prepare all the necessary documents:

• veterinary passport - the cat must have all vaccinations (they must be done at least a month and maximum a year before the start of the exhibition);
• a copy of the pedigree or birth certificate (for small kittens);
• for display in another city, you will need a certificate of Form No. 1;
• payment receipt (or have money ready if you will pay on the spot);
• passport of the cat's owner and several copies.

In addition to documents, you need to have accessories for the animal with you. For the show you need to take:

• cat bed or bedding;
• disinfectant (needed for treating cages provided by the organizers);
• disposable bedding (for examination by a veterinarian);
• hygiene wipes;
• tray, scoop, litter and garbage bags;
• regular food, water, bowls, a few teasers/toys and treats;
• items to prepare your pet for examination by a judge: combs, powder, scissors, fixatives;
• If desired, or if the organizers do not provide cages, you will also need exhibition tents/houses.

A few days before the exhibition, start preparing your pet. You need to brush your teeth at least three days in advance. This should not be done immediately before the event, as traces of irritation may remain on the gums.

If the cat is long-haired, then it is washed the day before the show. The coat should be silky, airy, soft. But short-haired cats need to be washed a week in advance. Their coat should be shiny, shiny, not fluffy and close to the body (unless the breed standard states otherwise).

Cat shows require the animals to be in excellent condition, so a detailed inspection is necessary. The eyes are checked, treated and treated if they suddenly become watery. All dusty crusts are removed from the spout. The cat's ears also need to be thoroughly cleaned of wax. Special attention is paid to the claws: carefully trim and file them.
