Sprouted oats are a cat’s favorite treat, rich in vitamins and minerals necessary for the full growth of your pet. This herb can cause a gag reflex, which helps the cat get rid of hair and poorly digested food. You can buy seeds at a zoological store and germinate them yourself at home. Moreover, it will require a minimum of cost and effort. There are three ways in which grass will appear within a week: in vermiculite, in soil and without soil.

How many oats do you need to germinate at a time?

Grain sprouts are quite a heavy food for the body, especially if your diet was previously low in fiber. Therefore, for the first week, I recommend eating no more than 20 - 30 grams of sprouted oats per day. And given that it can be stored in the refrigerator for no longer than three days, it makes sense to germinate 60–90 grams of grain at a time.

To always have this valuable product on hand, sprout a fresh portion every 2 to 3 days.

As soon as the norm of 20-30 grams becomes familiar to you, you can slowly increase it to 50-70 grams. But it’s still better not to go beyond the 70 gram line, because such an abundance of fiber will put too much strain on the digestive tract.

How to grow grass for a cat

In a clean place: in the country or in a forest, you can dig up some turf, a lump of earth with Wheatgrass and plant it in a flower pot at home for cats. At the bottom of the pot, as drainage, you need to put a layer of pebbles or eggshells, and it would also be nice to have charcoal. You can put a layer of Sphagnum moss in the pot: the moss can be added to the soil mixture or placed at the bottom of the pot. Sphagnum moss serves both for disinfection and as a leavening agent. Grass planted directly with a plate of turf will delight cats for a long time; with timely watering, this Wheatgrass will last the cats for the whole winter, and, what is especially convenient, the turf is dense, so the soil from such a planting cannot be scattered to the cats, and if the pot with grass is made large, size, it turns out to be heavy and cannot be knocked over or dropped. There is no garbage in the room from this grass.

Sprouting oats for pets

My cat is a Cornish Rex. This cat breed has a very original wavy coat.

Once upon a time we had a Cornish Rex cat. A terrible robber. One day I was preparing a salad, went to the bath for a second, came and observed the following picture: this bastard jumped onto the table and chewed parsley leaves with gusto (!).

At first I thought that he lacked vitamins, but then a knowledgeable neighbor suggested that in this way animals clean their stomachs (after all, cats wash themselves with their tongues, as a result of which lumps of hair get into the stomach and clog it).

Since then, I began to sprout oats at home and treat my cat to the green juicy leaves. At first I sowed the grains in the soil, but then I began to grow it completely without soil, using the hydroponic method.

I suggest watching the video to see how this is done.

And finally, I present to your attention a super energizing breakfast option with sprouted oats.

Sprouted oats for breakfast

¾ cup oat sprouts

3 teaspoons almond milk or filtered water

1 teaspoon honey (agave extract, maple syrup or, in extreme cases, brown sugar)

½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

2 teaspoons pumpkin seeds

¼ cup almonds (pre-soak overnight)

¼ cup raisins (preferably soaked overnight)

As a garnish: pieces of apple, banana, berries, mango and so on.

  1. Rinse the oat sprouts and soaked nuts.
  2. In a food processor, combine oats, water (almond milk), sweetener and pumpkin seeds.
  3. Add 1/3 of the nuts and raisins to the mixture and mix on low until the ingredients are sufficiently moistened.
  4. Add a little more milk or water to achieve desired consistency.
  5. Decorate the dish with the remaining nuts and raisins, sprinkle coconut, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, cinnamon on top (choose the topping to your taste).
  6. Serve alongside your favorite chopped fruit.

Preparing oat grain for germination

After you bring the purchased bag of grain from the street, you need to wait a little - the oats should warm up to room temperature (the fact is that sudden changes in temperature can negatively affect its germination).

Then measure out the first portion and sort through the grain: remove darkened and damaged specimens. After rinsing, the oats can be soaked for a few minutes in water with added salt (about one teaspoon per 200 milliliter glass). All floating grains must be removed; they still won’t hatch.

How to grow grass for cats without soil, oats, wheat, which grass is better?

With the help of the gag reflex, this food bolus is removed from the pet’s body.

  • Vitamins and microelements contained in greens strengthen the animal’s immunity.
  • Young sprouts are rich in chlorophyll, a substance that supplies the cat’s body with oxygen, participates in the process of hematopoiesis and has a beneficial effect on the brain.
  • Some herbs can have a calming or stimulating effect on the animal's psyche.
  • There is an assumption that cats simply like the taste of grass, since they often chew, but do not swallow the shoots.
  • If the cat does not eat grass itself, you can chop it up and mix it into the food; it is most convenient to do this with sprouted seeds.

Some cats do not eat green grass on their own initiative, but are happy to nibble on it from their owner's hands.
