Mating a Bengal cat: how to get healthy offspring

Onset of puberty and estrus

Puberty occurs six months after birth. But even here you shouldn’t start mating, because the mother cat is still too young to properly bear and give birth to kittens.

The best age for a cat will be more difficult to determine. For ladies, everything goes individually and they need to be monitored during periods of estrus. Experts believe that the safest and best estrus is the third. And after one year.

The best age to breed a cat is after one year. At best, wait two years. After the first mating, the next one can be carried out a month later and throughout the year. The main thing is that mating does not take place more than two or three times a month. And from here you can start from how many cats you need to breed per year.

How can you understand that a cat is ready to continue its kind? This can be identified by symptoms: aggression, the cat is marking territory, refusal to eat, loud calls from the female, attempts to escape.

The cat will be ready to mate when you notice that she has begun to pet you and talk to you excessively. Rolling on the floor, arching her back, she shows her manifestation. If she moves her tail to the side, it means she is in heat.

Many people cannot determine whether the first heat is too early or is it already possible? Of course, with the cat’s first heat, everything has just begun and she does not need such an overload on her body. It is better to skip the initial stage so that the cat’s reproductive system rises a little higher in development. Closer to the third heat, everything will be formed in the cat.

In addition, you can be late with mating if you carry it out on already fully formed animals. There is a risk that they will not perceive each other as partners. Therefore, after 2 years it will be more difficult to mate for the first time.

Cats love to use soft things to satisfy their need.

When is the best time to breed cats?

Nature has its own time for everything. Mating of cats is carried out no earlier than one year: it is important to wait until they are fully physiologically formed. The first two heats are ignored.

The optimal time for mating for the first time is considered to be up to one and a half years old; if it is late, then there may be difficulties in communicating with the cat and the manifestation of strong aggression towards him.

An excellent solution would be to keep a diary with records of all the dates about the beginning and end of the estrus period: this will help calculate the beginning of the next estrus and set the day for mating the cat and the cat.

Cat in heat

Estrus does not last long: 5-10 days. In the first two days, a change in the pet’s behavior is noticeable. The female becomes agitated, overly affectionate, or unusually aggressive. The cat rubs against furniture and the legs of household members. The change in gait is obvious - one cannot help but notice the raised tail and arched lower back. The pussy still won't let the cat near it.

Then, until the 6th day, the owners “enjoy” the calling heart-rending meow. If you pet a cat, she immediately takes an unambiguous pose, not forgetting to move her tail to the side and raise her rump. Appetite decreases, urination becomes more frequent. The animal expresses its readiness to copulate.

Cat sexual maturity

Cat in a bow tie.jpg

The cat reaches sexual maturity from the 8th to the 10th month. It depends more on the breed. Puberty is completed by the age of one and a half years. There is a change in the behavior of the male: aggression appears, closer to night everyone “enjoys” the concerts of screams and meows. Particularly “pleasant” is the cat’s desire to mark everything around with a pungent-smelling secret. Particularly zealous cats make attempts to satisfy sexual needs with soft things. In the spring, the desire to continue their race is especially strong, although males are ready for this all year round.

How is estrus going?

For the first time, your cat may notice bloody discharge. By the third heat, this phenomenon should disappear.

The heat lasts about a week. The cat begins to scream heart-rendingly, roll on the floor, arch its back and tail. She also begins to rub herself excessively against her owners. He may even approach those whom he does not particularly perceive.

The cat may even refuse to eat, but at the same time often runs to the toilet.

Over the course of a week, you can observe how the cat changes in character, both for good and bad.

Mating of purebred cats: documents

The mating of purebred cats must be documented according to all the rules to guarantee the pedigree of the kittens born as a result of this mating.

Documents required for breeding purebred cats:

• The cat and cat must have pedigrees that fully comply with the rules of the system.

• The cat and cat must belong to the same system. Exceptions are possible, but they are strictly regulated, each system in its own way.

A cat and a she-cat may belong to different clubs, but since kittens are usually activated by the cat's club, that club must receive a copy of the cat's pedigree.

• The cat and cat must have a rating at the exhibition not lower than “good” (in the European system).

Different clubs have different requirements for breeding animals; a “good” rating is the minimum. Most often, a cat for mating must have an “excellent” rating, and the cat must have the title of Champion or similar. Sometimes, under special circumstances, the club may allow the mating of cats that have not participated in exhibitions. Titles must be confirmed by certificates, grades - by evaluation sheets.

In American systems, you can breed any cats with pedigrees.

• Before mating, you must obtain a referral for mating from the club (in the European system). It indicates the name of the cat and male, their colors and titles, as well as the date of mating. The direction is signed by the club and its stamp is put there, and the direction is also signed by the owners of the cat and cat.

• The owners of the cat and the cat sign a mating agreement, in which they separately indicate the payment procedure and the possibility of repeated matings for the specified fee, as well as, of course, all the characteristics of the animals. In some cases, a mating act is also drawn up.

Features of the first mating

The first mating for cats is the most difficult. So be prepared for this.

It is better to choose a partner who will already have experience. For males, of course, it is also important to choose a lady with experience. The best outcome is to choose several partners so that the cat has a choice. Once the choice is made, it is worth discussing all the nuances with the owners of the partners.

It is strictly not recommended for a cat to give birth frequently. 3 times every 2 years is enough. If childbirth is carried out more often, it threatens the life of the cat.

Even if difficulties arise, you will have to be with your pet and support him in every possible way from stress.

It’s better to immediately realize what will happen after mating in order to properly prepare.

How long does a cat's heat last?

Each cat goes into heat differently; a period of 5 to 20 days is considered normal. Estrus that is too short or absent may be associated with pathologies of the thyroid gland and underdevelopment of the ovaries. If the heat, on the contrary, is prolonged, this may be a symptom of inflammation of the ovaries, as well as cysts and tumors.

Important: It is recommended to sterilize your cat if you do not plan to breed. With a large number of estrus without fertilization, the likelihood of developing diseases of the reproductive system increases, and hormonal drugs that suppress estrus have serious side effects

Sterilized cats do not annoy the owner with inviting meows, do not run away in search of a cat, and live several years longer than pets that have not undergone surgery.

How to prepare an animal

Before you go to breeding, you need to prepare the cat for birth. Establish proper nutrition, check that the cat has all vaccinations, and make sure that estrus starts on time. By the way, care for the cat also applies. Do not let both of you catch a cold, cut their nails, wash their fur and skin. It is better to wash your cat 5 days before the event, otherwise the smell of chemicals will ruin everything. Many people prefer not to wash to preserve the real smell.

You can go straight to the doctor so that he can confirm that there will be no threat to life during pregnancy.

The owners of the male should prepare everything for mating, because the entire process of mating cats should take place on the territory of the male. It is better to provide the young people with a separate room, preferably with a minimum of furniture, so that there is nowhere to hide.

Cat owners should prepare all the cat's belongings for temporary residence on the side of the male. All items include a litter tray, litter, food bowls, toys and carrier.

Owners must be vigilant and monitor the process.

Mating rules

Those who want to breed animals or simply make easy money from purebred kittens should understand that the process of mating a cat and a cat is far from simple. To carry out mating correctly, you must have sufficient knowledge and skills in the field of genetics, zoology, as well as legal subtleties for registering offspring or possible problems with pregnancy and childbirth.

There are basic mistakes that non-professional breeders can make:

Choosing the right partner. It is better to select a manufacturing partner in advance, or preferably several possible partners, because One cat may not like the cat. Then all efforts will come to naught, and time will be lost. All conditions and nuances are discussed with the owners of potential partners. For pedigree breeding, it is better to contact a professional club, and not select from advertisements. Since random incidents may arise with some clogging of the rock. The main indicators here are the following: the absence of close relatives at least up to the third generation; assessment of appearance should be carried out, in addition to health, by color

It is important to understand what color fur to expect in kittens. This is where knowledge of feline genetics comes in handy; It is important to choose a partner with a suitable blood type

Cats have only three of them: A, B and A/B. You cannot breed cats of groups A and B. This will entail the possibility of the birth of unhealthy offspring. Some cat breeds are incompatible with each other, but breeders often experiment.

Care before mating. The main thing is the health of the animal. It is necessary to organize proper nutrition and maintenance of both the cat and the cat. Vaccination against various infections (rabies, feline distemper, rhinotracheitis, calcivirosis), fungal and “venereal” diseases (chlamydia, lichen), deworming (getting rid of worms) is mandatory. Vaccination is carried out once a year, and deworming is carried out once every three months. The latter must be done 10 days before the scheduled mating day. Afterwards, it is not recommended to carry out any medical measures. Diet of cats and cats. An overfed or underfed animal is alarming if you want to have kittens; complications during pregnancy and childbirth are possible. When preparing in advance, you need to add vitamins to your usual diet. Keeping the animal. It is necessary to ensure peace, absence of drafts and temperature changes.

Preparation for mating includes bringing the animals into a satisfactory state:

  • Trim claws;
  • Wash with zoo shampoo, but no less than 3-5 days before mating. Otherwise, the smell of shampoo may scare away your partner.

Preparing for mating has not only physiological, but also psychological meaning, both for the pet and for its owners. The agreed cost of mating can be equal to one kitten, or paid financially, possibly in installments (before mating and after the birth of kittens).

Mating contract

The contract is an important legal part when mating two animals. He gives a guarantee and confidence that everything will go as it should and we will have strength.

The contract must contain information about the partners, the owners, all information about health, the rights and obligations of the parties, all actions according to the regulations, and problem cases. The contract also specifies payment, how pregnancy and childbirth are managed, and how offspring are registered.

A contract is needed in any case, even if the animals are not purebred.

How does mating occur in cats?

Mating in cats does not occur in one hour, but over several days. That's why the cat's things are packed in suitcases.

  1. It all starts with arrival. The cat is brought to the cat's territory and allowed into his room.
  2. Couple getting acquainted. Familiarity sometimes turns into anger, and then abruptly into mercy. This is how they flirt with each other and explore. They need to be given time to learn.
  3. When the time comes for the process itself, the cat suddenly jumps on top of the cat, presses it to the floor, and grabs it by the withers. Sexual intercourse does not last long - about a minute. After this time, the cat will begin to show aggression towards its partner, so it is better to exclude him from the room for a while.
  4. If everything went well, then after the act the cat begins to roll on the floor, and the cat licks itself at this time. You can try to introduce the male so that they can lick themselves together.
  5. You shouldn’t finish the job right away, but for better results try to repeat the process. Well, just in case. Over the course of a few days, you can do a couple more sexual acts, which will be easier.

Owners should monitor the process, but not show the animals too much that you are watching them. In some cases, your help will be needed, so don’t close the door and go into oblivion.

The main thing is not to touch them during the process unless there is a reason for this. It will be possible to get closer if a fight breaks out between the animals.

You can recognize a cat’s favorable mood by its behavior when it begins to flirt with the cat itself.

Mass matings and litters

Developed parental immunity is inherited by the offspring. How do rabbits reproduce:

  1. Feeders and drinkers are removed from the rabbit cage. The female is placed next to the male for 2-3 hours during the hunting period. After replanting, the couple must be observed for several hours. If the female rabbit is aggressive towards the male, then the mating process has failed.
  2. The couple is placed in a separate cage and kept together for 5-7 days. Animals independently choose the time of mating. It is necessary to control the rabbits for some time to prevent fights between partners.
  3. In large farms, artificial insemination is practiced. At the moment of mating, the rabbit's sperm is collected in a test tube. The female is artificially inseminated by injecting sperm using a syringe. The method gives a 95% guarantee that the rabbit is pregnant the first time.

Be sure to read:

How to understand that a rabbit is pregnant and what to do then

The act of mating takes place quickly - within 30 seconds. If sexual intercourse is successful, the rabbit falls to the side with a whistle and freezes for 5 seconds. The female is urgently placed in another cage, otherwise the male may bite the fertilized rabbit.

What should you pay special attention to?

Before and during mating, you should adhere to general recommendations for the successful intercourse of two lovers.

  • Before mating - only natural products, fish and meat, as well as vegetables. You can feed exclusively with holistic food.
  • Examinations by a veterinarian are required. This way you can be confident in the health of your cat and your partner.
  • It is also not recommended to mate a cat often. This reduces the quality of conception and may not bring any effect.
  • Do not give your cat or cat medications or sedatives.
  • Discuss all the conditions with the male owner to avoid bad consequences.

Experts say that a cat experiences pain during sexual intercourse. But after finishing it’s a pleasure.

Mating of purebred cats

Mating of purebred cats is no different from mating of outbred animals from the point of view of physiology and compliance with the rules necessary to ensure the health of the cat, cat and kittens.
However, selecting a breeding pair in such a way that the kittens from this pair maximally correspond to the breed standard is a complex and time-consuming undertaking that requires owners to have knowledge of the basics of cat genetics and felinological documentation. As a rule, the cat owner selects a breeding cat in accordance with his desires and needs, and therefore it is he who bears all the responsibility for the result obtained, with the exception of problems caused by the ill health of the cat.

Mating of purebred cats: genetics

The selection of a breeding cat for a cat should begin by studying the genetic characteristics of the breed and taking them into account in the exhibition system in which the kittens are planned to be activated.

To do this you need to follow the following rules:

• The cat and the cat must be of the same breed or breeds, crosses between which are permitted by the selected exhibition system. (Other matings are possible within the framework of experimental breeding approved by the club or system, for example, with the aim of creating a new breed).

• It is necessary to study and take into account all the physiological characteristics of the breed in order to obtain kittens that are closest to the standard accepted in the exhibition system.

Such features include various deformations of the ears, paws and tails; coat length or lack thereof; presence or absence of curliness; genetic diseases and defects characteristic of the breed, etc. For example, some systems do not recognize the longhaired variation of the British cat; bobtails must have tails of a certain length and type; when mating between extreme Burmese, kittens with lethal deformations of the skull, etc. can be obtained.

• It is necessary to clearly know which colors of a given breed are recognized by this system in order to avoid breeding marriage.

For example, British cats cannot have the color “with white spots”, which is easily obtained by mating bicolor with solid; in some systems, red and cream colors are unacceptable in American Burmese, but acceptable in European ones; in WCF, Abyssinians can be chocolate, in other systems this color is prohibited, etc.

It is also worth noting that it is best to breed cats with one type of color (solid with solid) and even pattern (marble with marble), this way there is a greater chance of securing a bright pattern or color; exception - white cats (due to the danger of getting deaf kittens, they are not bred with each other); In addition, when mating two particolors, the amount of white in the color increases (bicolor + bicolor produce harlequins and vans).

• A pair should be selected on the basis of evaluation sheets received at an exhibition or after an independent assessment of the cat’s shortcomings according to the breed standard.

One of the partners must compensate for the shortcomings of the other, without detracting from his advantages. Those. If a cat's eyes are too large, she should be matched with a cat whose eyes are closest to the standard. Remember that in this case the principle “minus for minus gives a plus” does not work or almost does not work, so you should not mix a cat with too big eyes and a cat with too small eyes.

• It is necessary to study the pedigree of the male and female cats in order to establish hidden genes and possible common relatives.

Common relatives are not an obstacle to mating, but inbreeding (inbreeding), on the one hand, can consolidate the outstanding qualities of ancestors in the offspring, and on the other hand, there is a high probability of genetic diseases. Therefore, experienced breeders and felinologists recommend inbreeding only if the common ancestor has high achievements (world champion or similar titles or a rare color that can appear in the descendants, etc.) and it is best if this ancestor is in the 3-4 generation. Matings between brothers-sisters and children-parents are permissible only in the most extreme cases.

It is worth noting that the necessary assistance in selecting the right breeding pair can be provided by the cat lovers club in which you and your cat are members. As a rule, such clubs have leaders of the breed or breed group - experienced breeders, nursery owners who know all the good breeding cats open for mating, and all the features of their breed.

How to determine pregnancy

At first, you won’t even notice the differences, whether before the act or after the act. The cat can behave as usual: ask for the cat and lie around. This is because the cat’s body has not yet been rebuilt and its hormones are acting up.

You can notice pregnancy yourself after three weeks, when the cat’s nipples swell and the sides become a little rounder. One hundred percent pregnancy can be determined by a veterinarian.

Pregnancy takes place within 60 days.

Even if pregnancy does not take place, the cat can repeat the cycle of sexual intercourse with the same partner, but without payment.

Sex Barrier is the most humane and suitable method for a breeder to calm a pet

As mentioned earlier, it is better for a cat to give birth no more than three times every two years. This will prevent her from being depleted and give her the opportunity to live a full life.

To relieve tension and desire, the Sex Barrier recommended by veterinarians is used. This remedy completely removes all negative manifestations of “desire” in cats.

Its use will provide:

  • regulation (delay) of the onset of “hunting” in a cat;
  • contraceptive effect (within 24 hours from the time of use);
  • decrease in sexual arousal and its negative manifestations: animal screams, “marking” of territory, nervous or angry behavior, the desire to run away from the apartment.

We recommend reading the article about the first birth in cats.

Mating problems

Mating will not always be successful. There are also some problems in which nothing may work.

  • Animal sizes. It happens that a cat is too big in size to overtake a cat. Then the cat simply will not be able to fertilize the female, because he needs to cling to the withers, but his size does not allow it. Here the owner can come to the rescue and hold the female.
  • Rolling to one side. When a cat rolls over on its side, the cat will no longer be able to impregnate the female. In this case, the owner can also help by holding the cat with his hands in the desired position. But there are exceptions when cats don’t care about pose.
  • Aggression from the cat. The female may not perceive the male as a potential partner. Then there are several options: look for another partner, insert a probe into the vagina, support the cat with soothing movements on the stomach. The insertion of the probe must be done strictly with a doctor.
  • When a cat is stressed, it may stop estrus. This happens, so if she lives with the male for a couple of days, everything will return.

After sexual intercourse, the cat shows anger towards the partner because of the pain she received. But after a while her mood will return to normal. You need to understand this.

Another case is when during coitus the female falls over on her side

The owner will have to hold the animal in a suitable position (there are situations when cats are able to solve this problem without outside intervention).

A situation where a female suddenly stops estrus with all the accompanying signs. This happens due to stress. We must wait until the cat gets used to it and gets used to it, everything will be restored. Probably, the female should be left to stay with the cat owners so that the animals can get used to it and make friends.

There is no heat - this happens if the pet’s behavior is mistaken for sexual heat. But the gentleman will never let you down. Only in the case of absolute indifference and complete lack of attention to the cat can we talk about the absence of intercourse between animals.

Veterinarian advice

  • Contraceptives. Experts do not recommend using such products, because they have a bad effect on the cat’s body. Causes neoplasms, cysts, and hormonal imbalances. Although they can temporarily reduce sexual activity.
  • When choosing a partner, it is important to look not only at health, but also at color and blood type. If the blood is incompatible, kittens are born with defects. It is much more difficult with purebred cats. Here it is necessary that the reigning family does not cease.

Now you know what cat mating is. In any case, the fate of the cat is in your hands. If you decide to take such a serious step, be prepared for anything. Well, let the kids live happily!

The happiness of partners depends on the owners.

Sexual desire in a sterilized cat

The surgical procedure used to prevent pregnancy is commonly called sterilization. In practice, the animal undergoes one of three operations:

  • tubal occlusion: tubal ligation;
  • oophorectomy - removal of the ovaries;
  • Ovariohysterectomy - simultaneous removal of the uterus and ovaries.

Tubal ligation does not stop the maturation of the follicles, creating an obstacle to the fertilized egg entering the uterus. The hormonal background does not undergo changes, the occurrence of heat in a pet that has been sterilized by tubal ligation is the norm. The cessation of sexual activity occurs as a result of oophorectomy or ovariohysterectomy. These two procedures protect the pet well from inflammation of the uterus, ovarian cancer, polycystic disease, and similar diseases.

Is it possible to sterilize a cat at this time?

Sterilization during the rutting period is strictly prohibited. A gross change in the development of hormonal processes will negatively affect the health of any animal. The procedure is recommended two weeks before or two weeks after the active phase.

Kittens predisposed to the development of mammary gland cancer are sterilized before the first heat, the permissible age is six months or a little more, weight is more than three kilograms. The rest are sterilized after the first heat. The signs are not always obvious; there is a danger of missing the deadline and performing the operation when the pet is in a state of activity, which is strictly contraindicated.

Mating of purebred cats: payment

If matings of outbred cats, as a rule, take place free of charge or as a result of chance, then mating of purebred cats almost always involves payment.

Payment options for breeding purebred cats:

• Free, under the following conditions:

o The owners of the cat and the cat are friends or relatives (in order to avoid misunderstandings, it is recommended to conclude an agreement and pay a certain amount for mating)

o The cat’s owners cannot choose a cat for him, and do not want to castrate him (possibly in small towns and villages)

o A cat and a cat live in the same territory and belong to the same owner (To improve the breed, it is worth taking care of matings “on the side”, since replicating one pair, from this point of view, is useless if both animals do not have outstanding breed characteristics. Also a cat and a female cat may not be suitable for each other for some reason).

• For a kitten (alimony):

Mating cats for a kitten suggests that if after mating the cat becomes pregnant and kittens are born, then 1 kitten from the litter (less often 2) is given to the cat’s owner free of charge, such a kitten is called “alimony”.

As a rule, the cat's owner takes the kitten to him after he is 2.5-3 months old. In this case, the owner of the cat has the right of first choice of the kitten, i.e. he selects a foster kitten before the reservation and sale of kittens begins. All additional conditions of such an agreement are discussed separately (what to do if pregnancy does not occur; what to do if one kitten is born, etc.) Professional breeders try to breed cats for money.

For a cat owner, a deal with a maintenance kitten is not profitable, because the best kittens in the litter receive maintenance, and for them you can get more money than the mating would cost. Cat owners do not like to deal with the placement of kittens and generally mess with them. The owners of the cat are interested in a maintenance kitten only if it is suitable for the breeding program (it can become the next stud cat) or if it has special value.

Mating cats for money is the most acceptable way of mating for both the cat owner and the cat owner.

As a rule, the price for breeding a cat is approximately equal to the cost of one kitten of this breed. Cats with high titles charge more for mating than those who do not yet have titles. Sometimes payment for mating occurs after the sale of born kittens, then the owner of the cat takes a certain percentage of the cost of the entire litter.

The mating price usually includes 2-3 cat-male meetings, if pregnancy does not occur during the first mating.

Be responsible when breeding purebred cats; remember that it is aimed at improving the characteristics of the breed, and not at making money.

Should there be discharge after mating?

The appearance of clear discharge is considered normal, but if it turns the color of blood, this is a sign of a disorder.
Within 2-3 days after mating, a maximum of a week, the owner may notice the discharge of mucus from the genitals, which can be transparent or transparent white. This is often the case when estrus is not yet fully completed, so there is no need to worry about this. Another thing is when there is a discharge with blood, similar to menstruation, accompanied by an unpleasant odor. If a cat has discharge with such pathological inclusions, this may indicate the development of such disorders:

  • Abortion. It may occur a month or even a few days after mating. Premature birth often occurs in an old cat, but a young cat is not immune from such complications, especially if the first mating took place early.
  • Infection. During the act of copulation, foreign bacteria enter the cat’s body, as a result of which diseases such as vaginitis, poimetra, metritis, etc. develop. In addition to discharge, the skin around the genitals becomes red, inflamed, and the animal is bothered by constant pain and weakness.
  • False pregnancy. The reasons are problems with the male’s seminal fluid. The cat develops false symptoms of pregnancy - an enlarged abdomen and nipples. After “birth” milk appears. Frequently recurring false pregnancies lead to mental problems, hormonal imbalances, and infertility.
  • Injuries. Each mating, the vaginal mucosa can be injured by the thorns located on the cat’s genitals. If the frequency of mating is frequent, microcracks appear on the tissues, which sometimes bleed.

When does puberty begin in cats?

For owners of females, the problem of mating their pet becomes relevant already at 6-7 months of their pet’s life: it is at this time that the cat begins her first heat.

Of course, cats should not be mated at this moment, because the animal is still developing (and puberty and physical maturation are not the same thing!), but even then you need to think about future searches for a partner.

The situation is similar for owners of males: cats mature by 7-8 months, but if at this age castration is quite appropriate, then cats do not yet need mating: the animal is not yet ready for it!

If you don't know how old your pet is, the onset of puberty can be determined by certain changes in his behavior.

In cats this manifests itself in:

  • the appearance of more characteristic behavior (if previously the kitten was affectionate and gentle, now it may become a little aggressive),
  • trying to mark territory,
  • attempts to adapt various soft things for their sexual needs.

The signs of maturation in a cat are as follows:

  • loud inviting meow,
  • changes in gait (during heat, the cat raises its tail and arches its back),
  • rolling on the floor
  • changes in character - some cats become more aggressive, and some, on the contrary, become affectionate.

When should you think about mating?

As a rule, the first mating of cats should occur at least after the animal is one and a half years old. A female, for example, can be “introduced” to a partner only when she has gone through 2-3 heats, but the ideal age of a cat for mating is one and a half to two years. By this time, the animal will have time to fully develop, and you will have time to give it all the necessary vaccinations.

Remember two rules:

  • mating of cats should not be carried out during the first heat, even if it comes late (this can end very unfavorably for the animal!),
  • two weeks before mating, the animal should not be given any vaccinations.

Preparation for mating

In order for the mating of cats to go smoothly, it is necessary to carefully prepare for it. A responsible owner should follow the following guidelines for preparing an animal for mating:

  1. It is necessary to find a cat for breeding as early as possible. To do this, owners of purebred cats need to contact specialized nurseries or clubs that breed this breed. For those who are planning to breed a simple cat, you can try to look for a cat ready for breeding through advertisements in newspapers or on the Internet.
  2. Before mating purebred animals, both parties should prepare all the necessary documents: veterinary passports, papers confirming origin, pedigree, contract, mating act, etc.
  3. A month before mating, the pet must be shown to a veterinarian. The doctor must examine the female, take the necessary tests that will help find out if the cat has any infectious diseases, and give all the necessary vaccinations (it is impossible to vaccinate a cat later than 2 weeks before mating). Owners should know that only healthy animals are allowed to breed (the same applies to males).
  4. A couple of weeks before the important process, the cat must be treated for parasites by giving her an anthelmintic drug (the doctor will tell you which one). Preventive deworming should be carried out even if the pet has no signs of helminthic infestation.
  5. On the eve of mating, the cat and male cat need to have their claws trimmed. When mating, animals can injure each other with sharp claws.
  6. It is not recommended to bathe your pet before mating. Bathing procedures (especially using shampoo) can interrupt the female's natural scent, which attracts the male.
