Neva masquerade cat

Cats are one of the most popular animals in the world. Every year, thousands of people start purring in their homes. The variety of breeds is also encouraging - there are about 400 of them, so choosing a cat can be difficult. Fans of long-haired breeds simply must pay attention to the Neva Masquerade cat.

  • History of the Neva masquerade cat

    In fact, the Neva Masquerade is just an offshoot of the Siberian cat breed, distinguished by its color-point color. This is also evidenced by its second name: Siberian color point. The breed is considered aboriginal, that is, formed not with the help of humans, but in the wild.

    Neva Masquerade is also called Siberian color point

    The color of Nevaks, as breeders call them, is white, cream or ivory with darkened ears, muzzle, lower legs and tail. This coloring is usually called point or color-point. It manifests itself thanks to a special gene, which is activated at the birth of a kitten and colors the fur with a dark pigment in places of the body with the lowest temperature.

    This coloring is the hallmark of Siamese cats, Mekong Bobtails and the Sacred Birman, and is also found in Persians, Bengals and many other breeds.

    Felinologists put forward two versions of the origin of the Nevaks:

    1. According to the first, the breed appeared as a result of crossing Siberian cats with Thai or Himalayan cats (these breeds also have a color-point color). This version excludes the aboriginality of the breed, and therefore, with a high degree of probability, is not reliable.
    2. According to the second version, the color of the Neva masquerade cat is the result of the manifestation of the recessive albinism gene, the same one that gives the color-point color.

    Be that as it may, the relationship between Nevaks and Siberian cats is undeniable. Because of this, many international felinological organizations refuse to recognize the Neva Masquerade as a separate breed. At the moment it is assessed separately only in the MFA system.

    The unusual color of the masquerade cat is caused by the albinism gene

    Direct selection and breeding of the breed began in the 1980s in St. Petersburg, in the Kotofey club. The process was led by breeder Olga Mironova. There the cats were given a name: Neva - in honor of the river on which St. Petersburg is located, masquerade - because of the dark “mask” on the face. A little later, after the exhibition in 1988, where the breed was first presented, the idea was picked up by Moscow clubs. Experts from different cities worked independently of each other, so the colors of Nevaks are quite diverse.

    The final standard was adopted in 1990 by the IFA system, and in 1992 the Neva Masquerade was recognized by the World Cat Federation.

    Amazing cats: Neva Masquerade

    Cats by their very existence refute the assertion that everything in the world was created for humans...

    /Paul Gray/

    From the huge variety of strange fluffy ones, I want to tell you about an amazing and completely unknown to me, as it turned out, breed of cat - Nevskaya Maskaradnaya. She attracted my attention with her rich fur coat, kind, open eyes and, of course, such a rare and very beautiful name.

    The Neva Masquerade cat is the result of crossing a Siamese cat and a luxurious Siberian cat. And she got her festive name because her muzzle is covered with a layer of dark pigment and it seems that the cat is constantly wearing a mask, as if she is going to a festive ball. That's why they are called Masquerade. And this beauty is called Nevskaya because she was first shown in 1988 in St. Petersburg, at a cat show. The official name of the breed is “Siberian Color Point”.

    The popularity of the breed is growing every year, both in Russia, Europe, and America. Foreigners were able to appreciate all the positive qualities inherent in this noble cat, hence the high cost of their acquisition. The owners are very proud to own such a majestic, intelligent, intelligent breed from the banks of our great Neva. Cats of this breed adapt well to any climate. A warm fur coat saves them from severe frosts, and with the onset of summer they change their fur outfit to light summer dresses!

    Well, the tails are the pride of the breed; under no circumstances do they lose their lush, elegant appearance. Luxurious fur does not require special care; cats are very clean and skillfully take care of their appearance. There is no need to comb the fur frequently, since the fur practically does not fall off, I mean the formation of tangles. The fluffy breed of this breed matures within five years, with an average life expectancy of 18 years. They are excellent athletes, especially in high and long jumps, and are also great hunters, although they are very friendly to rats and mice, and can talk with their own kind.

    They are very playful, happy to respond to the owner’s desire to play with them, but they love to immerse themselves in the wonderful, fairy-tale world of frolic and pampering.

    Nevskaya Maskaradnaya has a balanced character, one might even say calm, and there are practically no problems with them. They are not alien to family values, they are wonderful at home, they especially appreciate it when the owner treats them as equals and looks at them not as decoration of the apartment, but as a full member of the family, a friend, considering the pet not only kind and fluffy, but and a real assistant in any matter. And they don’t lack self-esteem. They will never be the first to offer themselves for communication, demanding affection and love. They know how to pause. Well, evenings are spent with great pleasure with the family, here they are the center of attention. Having respectfully listened to the conversations of their owners, cats will definitely add a few purring remarks of their own, agreeing or not with what they heard. Nevskaya Maskaradnaya is an excellent healer; with its long-lasting rumbling it will always calm its owner, making him forget about all the problems of the past day. Cats are absolutely unforgiving; in their small, kind hearts they will never harbor a grudge against words spoken unfairly and rudely towards them, only with special majesty will they turn their backs on the offender until he asks for forgiveness. Amazing cuties, like my Basyusha! And this is all inherent in the cat at the genetic level. An interesting feature of the Nevskaya Masquerade is that the cleaner the breed, the more it does not cause any allergic reactions in humans, and this is a big plus.

    These aristocrats breed in large numbers of kittens - from six to nine at a time. It is difficult for a mother cat to raise such a large family on her own, so the father cat always comes to the rescue, since he takes a direct part in the lives of his kids. Any human child can dream of such a caring dad. Kittens are born completely white, and over time dark spots appear on their ears, face, paws, and, of course, on their luxurious fluffy tail.

    They are not afraid of water, do not damage furniture, do not pay attention to curtains or wallpaper, are very sedate, in a word, they fully justify their proud, aristocratic title - a resident of the Northern Russian capital.

    These cats took only the best from their ancestors. The handsome Siberian has excellent health, rich coat and very impressive size. And from the Siamese graceful charmer - incredibly beautiful blue eyes. Some individuals have dazzling white fur “socks”, which makes them even more charming and charming, combined with all the positive qualities inherent in these cute creatures. The Neva Masquerade cat is very kind to its owner, it is difficult to experience, even if short-lived, separation from him; the devotion and loyalty of these cats is limitless. But St. Petersburg furries treat strangers with great disrespect; it is almost impossible to find a common language with them. But this dislike of strangers is more than compensated by the incredible adoration of small children, even despite the fact that a child can pull a cat for a long time by the most precious thing it has - its tail. And these intellectuals are very talkative; you need to have a lot of patience in order to, after listening to the rumbling speech, answer all the questions of interest from this inquisitive family member.

    Well, here is the little that I wanted to tell you about this charming breed of cats, which is rightfully one of the attractions of our beautiful Northern capital. The owner who has such a unique pet will always have a cozy home, and most importantly, peace and tranquility will reign in it.

    “A cat worthy to grace the Queen’s reception!” - this is exactly what the British say about our Neva Enchantress.

    Do you agree with this?

    History of the breed

    This breed is native, as it is the fruit of love between a Siberian cat and a Siamese cat. The Neva masquerade cat is called “masquerade” because of its appearance, and more specifically its muzzle, which in adult animals is dark, as if shrouded in haze, like a mask. And the breed was named Nevskaya because in St. Petersburg in 1988, at a cat exhibition, the debut show of this cat took place. The official registration of the breed took place a little later, in 1992. And now every year more and more cat lovers are getting such animals.

    But controversy has arisen among scientists around this cat breed. Some believe that it arose naturally, with minimal human participation in it. Others, on the contrary, are sure that these cats are the result of a genetic failure. Still others do not perceive this breed as separate at all, but believe that it is only a branch of the Siberian breed.

    Character of the Neva Masquerade

    The Neva Masquerade is a cat with a stable, easy-going disposition. Her balance will not allow her to turn the whole house upside down or start throwing marks from stress. Nevak is very difficult to piss off. Their calm dignity captivates at first sight. They are unobtrusive and will not bother the owner if he does not want to bother with them. But these character traits do not mean at all that the Neva masquerade cat is apathetic or lazy. On the contrary, until old age she remains energetic, ready to play and cheerful.

    These cats are true individuals, discreet aristocrats. They demand to be treated with respect as equals, and do not like to be treated like small children. If the owner screams, vents his anger, and even more so hits such a cat, she will not take revenge, but her trust in the person will be lost, and it is unlikely to be restored.

    Nevaki love to play, but will not impose themselves on their owner

    The Neva masquerade cat “appoints” only one person as its owner, while not depriving the rest of the family members of its attention. But only to the chosen owner will she be truly devoted and will love only him. She becomes attached not to the house, but to the person. This cat itself is affectionate and patient, it is always ready to communicate with a person. She has a keen sense of a person’s mood and state of health and can lie down on sore spots.

    Neva cats choose one owner for life

    Don't forget that Nevaks are natural hunters. They are especially good at catching mice and rats, so if you live in a private house, get ready for frequent “gifts” - the cat considers it its first duty to share its prey with its owner.

    The Neva Masquerade is very clean and disciplined; it will not tear wallpaper or jump on tables if you set the boundaries of what is permitted from the very first day in the house.

    Neva Masquerade is very chatty. When communicating with humans, it makes a wide range of sounds: from purring and meowing to growling and grumbling. It is easy to understand her mood by the intonation of her voice. If a cat has lived with its owner since childhood, it can copy his intonations and try to reproduce human speech by meowing. She does not like strangers, avoids them, and may even attack if it seems to her that a threat comes from the person.

    Attitude towards children and animals

    The Neva masquerade cat treats children somewhat differently. She seems to understand that they are still too small and stupid. Condescendingly watches their games and stoically endures their “caresses.” For children, a cat would be a good choice - it is larger, more easily tolerates the sometimes harsh treatment of children and is no less affectionate than a cat. The masquerade cat tries to protect the child, and may even call his parents if something happens. But a small kitten can scratch or bite a child in the heat of play.

    Nevaki get along well with other animals, especially dogs. They can even make friends with small rodents and birds, but only if they grew up with them and do not perceive them as prey.

    If you are interested in hearing reviews about the Neva Masquerade breed not from breeders, but from owners, go to Animal.ru - click here

    The only condition for you to evaluate reviews on the Internet should be that the animal is really of the Neva Masquerade breed (which is confirmed by a pedigree of 6 or more generations), and not just similar in appearance (such as a cross between Thai and Siberian), and that the animal is from a good nursery ( that is, upbringing and manners are laid down at the genetic level, this can be found out from recommendations from buyers of a particular breeder and by looking at the breeder’s cats at home).

    Reviews for all other animals of the “Neva Masquerade breed type” (similar) are not considered by us. And they cannot always to belong to the Neva Masquerade breed

    Here are some reviews from Animal.ru:

    This amazing creature has been living in my house for ten years now - the Neva masquerade cat. I was six when my mother brought this fluffy ball of fur into the house, which my brother and I immediately fell madly in love with and began to compete for the right to be our cat’s favorite. Now we have grown up, and Lana, our Neva masquerade cat, whose value cannot be expressed in money or anything else, is still the center of our family. True, now she is already an adult and respectable pussy, who prefers to sleep or sit on our laps, but she is loved no less than before. I think we are not the only ones in the city who have a Neva masquerade cat, Samara is a fairly advanced city in this regard, so we are not unique. But it doesn’t matter, because our cat is not there to show off, but to be loved tenderly and reverently! In three months Lana will be eleven, and as always on this day we will arrange a small celebration for her and for us!

    I picked him up on the street when he was about 5 months old, judging by his teeth. All the signs of the breed are evident, but for me this is not particularly important. The smartest cat, now he is about 10 months old, weighs about 5 kilograms. I have never – I emphasize – never once pooped somewhere other than the designated area, moreover, this cunning little beast is waiting for me to come home so that the poop will be cleaned up immediately. Someone here wrote about a dog and replaced it, they say. I don't like dogs, but this is close to the truth. Every morning I start with purring and licking my face, and he sleeps in another room and comes on the alarm clock, climbs in and looks. If I don’t open my eyes or don’t speak, he leaves. In the evening, upon arrival, until you lie down for a couple of minutes for the same procedure, you will be exhausted. He goes to the door to greet him even before the elevator opens on the floor - I don’t know how he feels.

    A year ago, the children persuaded me to buy a kitten. It didn’t matter who to buy, the main thing was that he was healthy and beautiful. After looking through a bunch of advertisements, we found ourselves a cat. We came and looked... This beauty climbed into my arms and that’s it... Love at first sight. Now our Glasha is a beloved family member. Everything described above is the absolute truth!!! I didn’t think that a cat could tolerate “bullying” from a three-year-old child and not even meow. If something is not to your liking, it is simply deleted and that’s it. With health, nutrition, potty, behavior, etc. There are simply NO problems. I have never seen more “domestic” cats in my life. It's just AWESOME. There aren’t enough laudatory epithets on the sites, that’s for sure! Believe me, Nevaki is the best breed for home and family. Main advantages: intelligence, cleanliness, tact, health... There are many to list

    Olga, guest February 3, 2013, 20:18

    We've had this miracle for 2 weeks now! Super cat! There are no problems with the tray, he only sharpens his nails on the scratching post! In the morning he starts purring only when he sees that they are already awake and comes to cuddle! No wool! She doesn't fly in the air! Doesn't fall off! Eats everything! It is a pleasure to have such a cat! Never imposes! And he doesn’t yell! Purchased from a nursery, age 7 months!

    The photos didn’t convey all the charm of this breed... the cats are extraordinary!

    I have had a cat of this breed for 15 years! I don’t even want a different breed than Nevak! He understands everything, is moderately affectionate, but most importantly, he is shaggy, and his fur does not mat, like the Persians. I love him very much!

    Vika, guest August 19, 2010, 12:42

    I also have this breed of cat. She has 2 kittens recently born. About 2 months ago. So cute! Nevak is the coolest cat breed!!!

    I have one like this at home. Almost exactly like the portrait photo. They're awesome. Individuals with character and smart

    moiaasuna September 22, 2010, 4:06 am

    When we moved to a private house, the need arose for a cat and my colleague offered me a kitten (I didn’t care what kind of cat it was, as long as it caught mice). They brought a little fluffy beauty. And six months later I saw in the photo an exact copy of my Dosi, where it was stated that this was a cat of the Neva Masquerade breed. Of course, I don’t have a purebred cat. But really, the whole description suits her. She talks (I was very surprised by this at first) and is such an intelligent cat. But she has a lot of self-esteem... And she’s also very smart.

    Lara, guest October 3, 2010, 9:58

    In the spring, our cat Gosha was hit by a car, although he was not a purebred Nevsky, but he was like a member of the family to us. We still cannot remember him without tears. And I really want to adopt a cat again. They know how to love and are so funny.

    Masha, guest October 31, 2010, 14:31

    Very nice pussy. I've always loved cats, but I wasn't always able to cuddle them, because... urticaria occurred, especially in the neck and face. When our Neva appeared, I was surprised that there were no allergies to her fur. So I can hug and caress her to my heart’s content, especially since she deserves it. A very smart, loyal, affectionate and tactful cat, as well as a mousetrapper and a lover of play.

    Alexander Devyato, guest November 2, 2010, 22:01

    Hello all fans of the Neva Masquerade! My family and I simply adore this and only this breed of cat for its infinitely gentle character, kindness and loyalty to its owners. We were the proud owners of a pair of these “good homemade woolen rags.” This spring, a cat died of hepatitis. Following her from a heart attack!!! the cat left. Whoever told me after that that cats are just on their own and don’t feel anything - I’ll spit in my eyes. I really want to have this miracle at home again. The kittens were given away, but nothing was left for themselves. I write my phone number and make a request - I’m ready to BUY!!!

    Elena, guest November 3, 2010, 8:57

    Good morning everyone! And in 2 hours we will go for our Frosenka. The cat-mother Nevskaya gave birth to kittens, but they are not fluffy, but still adorable. So today our family will grow by one member. We count the minutes, happiness knows no bounds. Good luck to all!!!

    Nikolay, guest November 4, 2010, 14:31

    At our dacha she came at night to steal food.;) Then she took root and we took her home.:) And she took it and... gave birth to 6 lovely kittens. I love Tadpole very much! Smart, affectionate and kind.

    Olga, guest November 26, 2010, 18:38

    Nevskaya is the best breed of all cats!!! Our Marusya is almost 4 years old and she is a real smart girl... playful and talkative!!! and it mewls so gorgeously, there simply cannot be another breed!!! only Neva))))

    I have been training this breed for 5 years now! To say that I am in love with Nevaks is an understatement! I adore them! Their character, their habits, this affectionate purring! I recommend it to everyone!

    Lara, yes, they checked it twice - there were no allergies, I’ll add - the Neva cat replaced my dog, and that says a lot

    The beautiful Neva Masquerade breed. The animals are smart, insightful, and worthy of the highest praise. I have a cat Masha, she is 8 years old. An awesome friend, she was brought up to treat people with respect. He will never bother you if you are busy and patiently waits for attention. She greets you at the doorstep, like the little mistress of her home. Weight 8.5 kg. We don’t like to swim, we show our teeth), but then the coat shines with beauty. We bring a toy mouse, showing that it’s not in vain that we eat bread (works off). He responds negatively to an invitation to visit a veterinary clinic (hides under the sofa). We don’t want to get into the carrier bag, but when we forcefully put him in, we begin to sob pitifully, curl up into a ball and suffer with our tongue hanging out. And so on all the way to the clinic, but after the vaccination we immediately get ready (to go home soon) and where did the sobbing go? This is such an interesting breed.

    Actually, the first photo is not a Neva masquerade cat at all, but rather a phenotypic Siberian with a blue-cream tortoiseshell color. Here in the second photo is a newcomer, but it doesn’t convey all her beauty. FOR EVERYONE - as there is no separate breed of Neva Masquerade cat, the Neva Masquerade cat is a variation of the Siberian! As always, we are Russians, we wanted to be ahead of the rest, and the new color, felinologist from St. Petersburg Olga Sergeevna Mironova, who developed the standard for the Siberian breed, registered it with a separate certificate as the Neva Masquerade colorpoint (color of points - limbs), since the mask on the face resembled masquerade balls on the Neva. This is how the history of Tsarist Russia became entrenched in the name of the SIBERIAN color. Of course, it’s not visible in these photos, but the cat really looks REGAL and “worthy of receiving any queen.” Maybe that’s why Mr. Medvedev chose the Nevsky masquerade cat as a pet, anticipating “royal receptions” in the Kremlin...

    Victoria, guest February 28, 2011, 16:05

    Hi all. We recently lost our pet. An ordinary cat. a mongrel, but she was very smart. A house without a cat is not a complete home for me. I have always wanted a Siamese fluffy kitten (girl). Only recently I found out that this is a Nevskaya Masquerade breed, and that it is not cheap. Ready to buy, but for reasonable money or accept as a gift. I'll come and pick it up myself if necessary. I live in the Krasnodar region.

    We also have such a cat, it’s a miracle!!! beautiful, affectionate, smart, kind!!! I advise everyone to get one! when you talk to her, she listens so attentively, and looks into your eyes with her blue eyes, it’s amazing!!!

    Hi all! The Nevsky Masquerade has been living with us for ten years now, Marquis. It’s a miracle, not a breed, although it’s a little harmful, but it’s affectionate and lazy to the point of impossibility and knows how to talk! If you don't believe me, get a kitten of this breed, you won't be bored! Until he was two years old, he brought all his toys to feed us, first he will eat himself, then he will put the toy with his nose in the food!

    Vladimir, guest March 8, 2011, 10:48

    -Our cat is already 19 years old! Keeping up well. I only went to the vet once, at age 7, when I was neutered. They carried two of them, the second was 2 years old, but he died on the same day, and our stubborn Tikhon is smoking everything little by little. Good luck to everyone and take care of your pets.

    Hi all! When I was a child, I had a cat of this breed... so smart! beautiful... the whole family loved her madly... And now I have been dreaming of having this miracle in my home for more than 5 years.

    This is the best cat breed...

    I have been living with a 2-month-old Neva Masquerade kitten for a whole week now. Our Thai cat died, we were looking for the same breed, but couldn’t find it. I was barely persuaded to take Neva with a probationary period. Now I'm delighted, the cat is luxurious

    I have a Neva Masquerade, her name is Eva. Very smart, blue-eyed. Doesn't spoil, doesn't steal, affectionate to the point of shock. Very talkative, I was lying sick, so she took care of me, and said: mom = mom, but now she doesn’t want to, the danger has passed, mom is alive, you can just caress. He understands human speech, is very shaggy, and has tassels on his paws like a lynx, and a tail like a fan. In short, a miracle of nature.

    For the first time I saw what a Neva Masquerade cat is when I looked at a photo in a friend’s album. Before that, I treated cats with indifference: well, cats and cats, what’s wrong, they’re all the same. But not all - this cat, a blue-eyed beauty, simply won my heart! After that, I read quite a lot of articles on the Internet about these animals and decided that it would be great if I had a Neva masquerade cat living at home, which I, in principle, could buy without any extra effort. But I have never kept any cats at home and am a little ignorant in matters of care, I don’t know all the intricacies of procedures and so on. If I get a Neva Masquerade cat, will I need serious care for her or will it be enough to just brush her hair? This is the only thing stopping me from buying so far; everything else doesn’t bother me at all, including my husband’s opinion. I know he wants a Labrador dog, but he doesn’t know that we will never have one.

    When we moved to our own private house, we decided to get a cat. It didn’t really matter what breed our new pet would be, but it turned out that she was a Neva masquerade cat, whose character is simply amazing: smart, intelligent, affectionate, and even catches mice. I didn’t think that our Nastasya, whom we adopted as a two-year-old adult cat, would become so attached to us, and we to her. Now for me there are no other animals, only the Neva Masquerade breed of cats, which are all just right - smart and very attractive. Our cat is not a show cat, so we don’t drag her around to all sorts of shows, we just love her, and she loves us. She catches mice expertly, so you don’t even need to set traps, for which we are grateful to our clever girl. To my biased taste, the Neva Masquerade Siberian cat is a wonderful friend, and simply an amazingly attentive and tactful creature!

    My friend has a masquerade cat, the price of which is exactly one date with an unfamiliar young man. He came to meet the cat, asked to hold her and ran away, melting the animal for her. To say that she was shocked by all this would be an understatement. She couldn’t catch the guy after leaving the cat, so she sadly dragged this willful carcass home. She tried to place her in a masquerade cat nursery, but they refused to take an animal without documents and of unclear origin. This upset her even more, especially since she was not prepared for living with a cat: everywhere in the house there were ruffles and furniture that could not be torn apart. But she was lucky: her masquerade cat, an intellectual and a gentleman, never displeased his new owner. Now they live in perfect harmony, understanding each other perfectly, and cannot stop looking at each other. This is how a strange date made everyone happy, although perhaps that guy is biting his elbows now!

    I recently got Neva masquerade kittens at home, selling them will start when they grow up a little, but now I don’t want to part with them. They all already have names and documents, and soon they will go to new owners who will love them no less than we do. If anyone needs Neva masquerade kittens, you can buy them from us, especially since we have two kittens lambing at once and all the babies are healthy and beautiful. We would love to keep everyone for ourselves, but I’m afraid we simply won’t be able to feed them, and there’s not enough room for such a crowd. If anyone wants to see what our beloved Neva Masquerade kittens look like, the photos are posted on my social page, in a special album dedicated exclusively to cats of this breed born to us. For me and my family, breeding these cats is not a job, but a hobby for which we can get some money. You can't get rich doing this, at least for us.

    Allochka, guest October 17, 2011, 16:22

    After a planned mating, Neva Masquerade kittens were born to us. We are probably the only nursery in Izhevsk, so these babies are snapped up instantly - we don’t even have time to listen to everyone who wants to hear them. Many people believe that you can get such unique animals as Neva masquerade kittens for free. But this is not so - the kids have all the certificates, vaccinations, pedigree, excellent health and brilliant prospects. This is a profitable investment of money - in beauty and perfection, which will remain nearby for many years and invariably delight. There is not a single animal more graceful and smarter than the Neva Masquerade Siberian kittens; they are the best friends for everyone who cannot imagine their life without a pet. I myself fell in love with this breed a long time ago, although my acquaintance with it was accidental: mutual friends had such a cat, which charmed everyone present. Then this love grew into a hobby and income, and I don’t regret devoting my life to cats!

    I have 3 Masikas of this breed. Two beautiful girls, a blue cream turtle and a silver turtle, and a boy, a beautiful blue tabby point. Stunning breed - everything in moderation. I RECOMMEND.

    And my treasure is Larry. Died a year ago. He is 13 years old. Slowly and quietly died before our eyes. Money didn't help save him. I miss him very much. Now we have a red cat, left over from the cat. Also affectionate and kind. But there is no comparison with our Larry. When we were driving to the dacha, Larry was silent, and when we returned home, he yelled all the way. He did not like small children and strangers, he hid from them under the sofa. I couldn't stand closed doors. He was very obedient. He gave me a paw. I want a Neva cat. My husband is still against it. And I'm afraid that suddenly he won't be like our Larry.

    Our cat Stas is already 19 years old!!! This beloved family member is now wise and measured. But over his long life he went through all the stages of development from a little naughty man, a younger brother and friend to his son, to a gray-haired old man. By the way, for a long time we did not know that this breed is the Neva Masquerade, but according to the description of the breed, there is a 100% match in character, and the main difference is that he is very chatty and comments on literally every action he takes.

    The best breed! The smartest, well-mannered, noble, kind, etc. The best companion and friend!

    We also have a Nevsky cat - Bosya. I read the description, well, exactly. And my mother speaks, and she’s smart, she presents herself with dignity, she’s always been an intellectual. He's already 16, ugh ugh. Every time we think with horror that he is getting old. As for allergies, this is probably very individual. I developed an allergy to the cat and went and took tests. Itchy eyes, scratchy hair. Before getting an animal, I think it’s better to get tested for allergens, so that later it won’t be excruciatingly painful for anyone, because the allergen accumulates and over time the reaction can worsen. I moved away from my parents, and now I just come to visit everyone. It seems to me that there is simply no better breed. Very sensitive, attentive... Previously, if the family gathered for breakfast in the morning, and one of the family members is fussing around somewhere, Bosya will beckon to join quickly before everyone has eaten, and sometimes he himself will not even eat until everyone is ready. Or, on the contrary, he runs to play a hamster for company. Can't stand dirty pots. We have 6 of them. Parents live in a big house. He drinks from the tap, when he drinks he calls to turn off the water before all HIS water runs out)))))))) he likes to listen to the water and watch)))) he knows that you can’t go into the bedroom, he knows when you call him, he will come running from the basement . Or sometimes he climbs up to the third floor and between the stairs he screams, like he’s lost, he needs to come up, he runs up the steps at breakneck speed and onto his shoulder)))))) it’s not clear just who is training whom. In general, these cats are like people. He understands everything, and even more. I wish everyone to find this shaggy happiness!!!

    Health

    The Neva Masquerade is a native breed, so it rarely gets sick. Another undoubted advantage of their health is that they are not predisposed to the vast majority of genetic diseases. The only disease that can affect Nevak is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

    Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a fatal disease that manifests itself in an increase in the volume of the heart muscle and thickening of the heart walls. As a result, blood circulation, air supply to the body and the heart itself deteriorate.

    In hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the heart muscle increases in volume

    Often the disease develops together with some others, for example, hyperthyroidism (overworking of the thyroid gland), hypertension (high blood pressure), acromegaly (too much growth hormone secretion).

    Also, the causes of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can be lymphoma (tumor of the heart), “bull’s heart” (congenital enlargement of the heart), and taking a large number of drugs not prescribed by a veterinarian.

    Diagnosis of the disease is carried out by ultrasound. In the early stages, when the disease can still be cured, it is very difficult to diagnose it. Symptoms:

    • heart murmurs;
    • heart rhythm disturbance;
    • pathology in heart rate.

    Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can be treated only in the early stages. If this is an independent disease, then you can extend the cat’s life with special care, medications and diet. And if the disease occurs against the background of another, then it can be seriously alleviated by taking special medications.

    Character and behavior

    The Neva Masquerade cat breed is a true embodiment of the devotion and tenderness that is characteristic of a dog. A cat can become a great friend for its owner. These mustaches easily adapt to a new environment and, for example, do not experience much stress when moving, since the main thing for this furry is that their beloved owners are nearby.

    These cats are so interesting that they can even feel the mood of their owner. It is curious that this breed of cat is completely unobtrusive and very independent. Cats of this breed can remain alone for a long time and not get bored; all they need is a little affection from their owner after coming home from work. This is why this cat breed is an excellent option for those who work a lot.

    Neva Masquerade cats are very playful and active, so they will definitely be able to fill your home with fun. Fluffies have a very good character, which also means that they will never annoy their owner with prolonged meowing. This breed of cat tolerates water treatments quite well. That is, if kittens are accustomed to water from a young age, then, as they grow up, they will be happy to bathe under running water.

    It is also important in the character of these mustaches that they are not vindictive and never take revenge. Even if the owner punishes them. These cats love children and can become true friends for them.

    Cats are so tactful that even if a child tortures the animal for a very long time, they will not begin to release their claws and scratch. Neva masquerade cats simply express their dissatisfaction by turning to the side and raising their heads up.

    This cat breed is also distinguished by its pride. For example, these cats almost do not respond to a simple “kitty-kitty” and, on the contrary, very willingly respond to their name. Over time, the animal begins to understand not only its name, but also many words that the owner often repeats.

    Neva Masquerade cats get along well with other pets. So, it will not be difficult for them to share their habitat with a dog, parrot and even a hamster.

    The Neva masquerade cat needs to be fed as varied as possible, otherwise it may get sick. She will be suitable for both natural and food-based diets.

    Natural nutrition

    A Siberian's diet should contain the following products:

    • meat - all varieties except pork;

      Meat must be present in a cat's diet.

    • offal - liver, kidneys, heart, tripe, lungs;
    • fish - flounder, tuna, cod, mackerel;
    • eggs (once a week);
    • vegetables - beets, carrots, cabbage;
    • cereals - rice, oatmeal;
    • fermented milk products - kefir, cottage cheese;
    • greens - seedlings of oats and wheat.

    For one part of porridge you need to give 2 parts of meat and half of vegetable puree. Give meat and fish only boiled to avoid infection with helminths.

    What to feed the Neva masquerade cat

    The appearance of a pet directly depends on its diet. Canned and dry food of the best class are perfect. But food from the human table, salted and peppered for the animal, is strictly prohibited.

    Medium-fat sour cream, cottage cheese and kefir, rabbit meat, beef, poultry, and offal should be included in the cat's diet. It is not recommended to give liver often, as it can change the color of the pet. Pork and fish should not be present in the diet at all.

    You can give your cat boiled vegetables and cereals with the addition of vegetable oil to make the diet more balanced.

    Food, regardless of whether it is ready-made or prepared independently, should always be fresh. You should not feed your pet food that has been left in the refrigerator. Be sure to give your cat special vitamins.

    The cat should be fed twice a day. A serving sufficient for one feeding is 150 grams.

    Grooming

    The Neva Masquerade cat's coat is three-layered with abundant undercoat, so it requires careful combing. To properly care for your cat's fur, you will need:

    • combined comb;
    • massage brush;
    • restorative spray and detangling spray;
    • shampoo-conditioner;
    • silicone massage sponge;
    • vitamins for wool.

    Photo gallery: Neva Masquerade coat care products

    The combination comb is suitable for combing the chest, area behind the ears and back.

    Spray Doctor VIC is used before the combing procedure Anju Beaute Jojoba Spray is used to restore the coat after combing

    One side of the brush is intended for combing, the other is for moisturizing the fur. For washing, you need to use shampoo for long-haired cats.

    Vitomax vitamins with biotin for wool contain amino acids, vitamins, minerals, including biotin, vitamin C and B vitamins

    The Nevak's coat needs to be combed once a week, and during shedding - once every 2-3 days. You need to scratch a cat like this:

    1. First you need to spray the coat with a spray to make combing easier.
    2. After this, comb thoroughly with a combination comb.
    3. Comb with a massage brush.
    4. Spray with restoration spray.

    The Neva Masquerade cat needs to be washed more often than many other breeds - once every 4-5 weeks:

    1. Before bathing, the cat's fur should be thoroughly combed.
    2. The water temperature must be at least 39 degrees.
    3. The cat should be washed in a basin; the water should cover it up to half the body.
    4. First, the cat needs to be thoroughly wet.
    5. After this, apply shampoo and lather it with a massage sponge.
    6. Rinse thoroughly.
    7. Dry the cat with a silent hairdryer or towel. While the cat is drying (about a day), there should be no drafts in the apartment.

    Video: how to wash a cat

    Cleaning teeth and ears

    To care for the eyes, ears and teeth of the Neva Masquerade cat you will need:

    • cotton swabs with limiters;
    • ear cleaning lotion;
    • drops for cleaning ears;
    • toothbrush for cats or silicone finger brush for babies;
    • toothpaste for cats;
    • a piece of linen or other natural fabric.

    If your cat does not participate in exhibitions, then to facilitate grooming, the ear brushes must be shaved off. For exhibition participants, brushes must be wiped daily with a damp cloth and combed with a comb.

    The Neva Masquerade cat needs proper care

    The ears themselves, if they are not very dirty, need to be cleaned once every 5-6 days. To do this, just drop drops to clean your ears and massage the base of your ear for 1-2 minutes. Heavily dirty ears will need to be cleaned of wax with a cotton swab dipped in ear cleaning lotion.

    The Neva Masquerade's teeth need to be brushed every 2-3 days. If the cat eats dry food, then brushing its teeth once a week will be enough. The most thorough cleaning is between the teeth and at the gums. If your cat's gums are bleeding, you should brush your teeth with a piece of natural cloth and toothpaste.

    Feeding

    What and how to feed a Neva masquerade cat so that it lives a long life?

    Animals of this breed, which are not prone to obesity, can be fed 2 times a day, offering approximately 120 grams of food at a time. Preference should be given to super premium food or complete natural food, in which meat (a source of taurine) and offal should predominate. For meat, priority should be lean beef, chicken and rabbit. Remember that liver and seafood can negatively affect the coat color, so you can treat your pet with them extremely rarely. Eating sea fish will not have a positive effect on your cat's health, and it is better to avoid it altogether.

    The animal should regularly eat fermented milk products, and cottage cheese, kefir and even yogurt should have medium fat content.

    In addition, the diet should contain both raw and stewed vegetables and cereal porridges, into which it is useful to periodically drip vegetable oil.

    Only by following all the recommendations can you provide your pet with proper and balanced nutrition.

    Nail trimming

    The Neva Masquerade cat's claws need to be trimmed as the transparent part grows back. For cutting, you need to purchase a special nail clipper. If during the procedure you accidentally cut your claw until it bleeds, you must immediately disinfect it with peroxide and cauterize it with iodine. There is no need for a haircut if the cat uses a scratching post.

    To protect your hands and furniture from scratches, you can purchase special anti-scratch caps. Although there is an opinion that they cause harm and discomfort to the cat, this is not at all true. Properly worn anti-scratch guards do not interfere with the function and growth of the claw. They need to be changed as it grows. The nails will still need to be trimmed once a month. Contraindication: allergy to the glue used to attach the caps to the claw.

    Color-matched anti-scratch pads look very unusual and decorate the cat.

    Breeding Neva Masquerade cats

    Only a person who already has experience in keeping these animals should breed nevaks. He must understand not only many veterinary aspects, but also the breed itself. Therefore, it is advisable for the future breeder to attend felinological courses.

    Mating and pregnancy

    Sexual maturity in Neva masquerade cats occurs at 8–10 months, in cats - closer to a year. It is recommended to breed females for the first time when they are one and a half years old.

    A healthy female of breeding class is suitable for novice breeders. If you adopt a cat, he may grow up with some minor defect, and it will be difficult for you to find a mating partner. If you buy a cat, then its deficiency can be corrected with the help of a properly selected partner.

    In order for the mating and future offspring to be recognized, the cat must take part in at least one exhibition and receive a breeding assessment.

    It is enough for cats to receive a “very good” rating in the “junior” category; this rating is valid for one mating. The cat will have to perform in an open category and receive an “excellent” rating, which will be valid for a year. If a cat receives a “very good” or “excellent” rating in an open category, then they are valid for two years. The title certificate is valid for life.

    An excellent assessment of a cat at an exhibition will be valid for a year.
    It is best to look for a partner at an exhibition in a special catalog or in breed clubs. Criteria that determine the choice of a partner:

    • the partner must be absolutely healthy: both he and your cat must be fully vaccinated no earlier than 10 months before mating, dewormed 1.5 months before mating, a veterinary passport is also required;
    • it must belong to the same breed, since Neva Masquerade cats are prohibited from breeding with other breeds (a breeding assessment or title certificate, a confirmed pedigree will show the cat’s pedigree);
    • closely related relationships can lead to pathologies in kittens, so the partner should not be a close relative of your pet;
    • it is desirable that one of the partners has already been mated at least once;
    • partners must be compatible by blood group: cats have only two - A and B, it should be remembered that cats of group B and cats of group A can be mated with any group, cats of group A - only with cats of group A, cats of group B - only with cats of group B.

    To breed, you need to wait until the cat is in heat and take her to the “groom” for 2–3 days. Mating should take place in the cat's territory. During the “date” you should take the following for your cat:

    • food supply for three days;
    • bowls;
    • her tray with filler;
    • a bed familiar to a cat;
    • as well as all necessary documents and an agreement with the owner of the partner.

    The cat's nails need to be trimmed so that she doesn't accidentally injure the cat.

    The cat's owners should also prepare everything necessary for the cat's arrival:

    • allocate a separate room for mating (it is not recommended to breed animals in a cage);
    • ensure safety in the room (close windows, remove wires and sharp objects, etc.);
    • place all the cat's things in the room;
    • the cat needs to trim all its claws;
    • prepare all the necessary documents and an agreement with payment terms.

    During mating, animals must be provided with complete rest.

    Pregnancy in the Neva Masquerade cat lasts about 65 days. Signs that your pet is pregnant:

    • swollen, bright pink nipples;
    • enlarged belly (in the second half);
    • vomiting in the morning;
    • changing habits and preferences.

    Pregnancy is best diagnosed using ultrasound. But in the early stages (the first 2-3 weeks), it is recommended to resort to this method only as a last resort (for example, the cat again requires a cat or a pathology of fetal development is suspected).

    Peculiarities of the breeder's activities

    A breeder is a person who not only understands the breed, but also preserves and improves its distinctive characteristics. Here is what a breeder must do to ensure that his business is legal and verified:

    1. The first step is to register the nursery with the club. Each club is registered with a felinological organization. If you are a Neva Masquerade breeder, then remember: your cats will be considered a separate breed only in the clubs of the MFA organization. In all others, you will be listed as a breeder of Siberian cats.
    2. Each litter must be activated, or registered, in the club where your cattery is registered. To do this, you need to do the following: After the birth of the kittens, you need to call the club and set an activation date (no earlier than 8 weeks after the birth of the litter).
    3. Activation is carried out by an expert felinologist. At the request of the breeder, the expert can come to your home or accept litters at the club.
    4. During activation, the following documents are issued: one Breeding Certificate and metrics for each kitten. The Breeding Certificate is assigned a four-digit number, in accordance with the Stud Book, where this number is entered. To speed up the process, you can fill out the Tribal Certificate and metrics yourself by downloading samples from the club website. But, if you do not know some aspects, for example, the name of the color, it is better to entrust this to a professional.
    5. If you have a diploma in felinology, then you can activate the litter yourself. To do this, fill out the Breeding Certificate as an Excel file and send it to the club.
    6. There the litter is assigned a four-digit number.
    7. After that, you fill out the kittens’ metrics and supplement it with this number.
    8. Put a stamp. You can do this in the club. But it will be much more convenient to have a nursery seal, a sample of which must be provided to the club.
  • Also, from three months old, the kitten needs to have a veterinary passport, which will contain data on all procedures performed (vaccinations, dewormings, etc.).
  • All documents for the kitten are transferred to the owner upon sale. The transaction is always formalized by a purchase and sale agreement.

    What does the Neva masquerade cat suffer from?

    The Neva Masquerade cat, as you know, is an aboriginal breed, bred naturally, so its representatives have exceptionally good health. They usually do not suffer from genetic diseases, with the exception of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This serious heart disease is dangerous because when it develops, blood stagnation forms in the pulmonary blood vessels. The progression of the disease can have serious consequences in the form of pulmonary edema, leading to the sudden death of the pet.

    Outwardly, this insidious disease does not manifest itself in any way, but during routine examinations by a veterinarian, the disease can be detected at an early stage. Maintenance therapy prescribed by a specialist will not only prolong life, but also alleviate the condition of the Neva masquerade cat.

    In addition, a naturally strong immune system and a nutritious diet will provide the main assistance to Nevaks.

    Indeed, under appropriate conditions, Neva masquerade cats can live up to twenty years.

    How to choose a Neva masquerade cat

    First, you should familiarize yourself with the classification of purebred cats and kittens and decide on the purpose for which you need the animal. There are three classes in total:

    • show class: these animals are the best of their breed, fully comply with the standard, and are intended for an exhibition career;
    • breeding class: animals are intended for breeding (breeding), they also meet the standard, but are not as flawless as show cats;
    • pet class: pets also meet the standard, but have some shortcomings that are undesirable for use in breeding; such cats and female cats are issued for castration or sterilization, or with a note in the pedigree “Without the right to breed.”

    First of all, the kitten must be absolutely healthy, it is important to pay attention to:

    • condition of the oral cavity: the mucous membranes should be pink (pallor indicates anemia), the teeth should be straight, the incisors should already be out;
    • ears: clean, without crusts and accumulation of sulfur secretions, no unpleasant odor is felt;
    • eyes: healthy, shiny, do not water, pus does not accumulate in the corners;
    • tail and spine area: there should be no compactions or bulges;
    • walking: smooth, when moving the kitten bounces freely, easily moves onto its hind legs if played with;
    • tummy: a round, inflated belly in a 1.5–2-month-old kitten is most likely a helminthic infestation syndrome;
    • paws: the skin on the pads should not flake or peel, all claws should be in place;
    • the coat is shiny, well-groomed, without tangles; if it is stuck together or in clumps near the anus, the animal has digestive problems;
    • nose: there should be no crusts around, when sneezing (babies sneeze often) mucus should not fly from the nose, this is an indicator of the presence of a bacterial infection;

Neva masquerade cats inherited eye color and colorful coat from Siamese, and muscles and a powerful skeleton from Siberians. They can be called champions in high and long jumps. They are also wonderful and brave hunters.
