Reviews from veterinarians and owners about Hills Gurmet and Mealfeel cat food

The shelves of supermarkets, pet stores and specialized stores for animals are bursting with a variety of canned food and dry food. Loving owners who decide to feed their cat store-bought food try to choose better quality food. However, only cheap food is actively advertised, while higher quality offers remain “in the shadows”. “Milfil” is a new brand of pet food, which is still little known in Russia, but some owners have chosen this particular brand.

Milfil food for cats

Mealfeel is a new brand of pet food. The products of this brand are manufactured by large European companies. Mealfeel dry food is produced in (Belgium), and wet food is produced in (France) and New Pet Food (Italy).

Mealfeel manufacturers are certified according to European food industry standards and provide high quality products, and these products periodically participate in international exhibitions

What class of feed does Milfil feed belong to?

Cat food is divided into economy, premium, superpremium and holistic classes. Economy is the cheapest food, in which the basis of the composition is cereals. Among the components of animal origin, budget foods may contain meat and bone meal or processed products (by-products). In addition, economy class products are characterized by a poor vitamin and mineral composition and an abundance of undesirable components: dyes, flavors, etc. This class includes foods such as Whiskas, Felix, Friskies, Gourmet, etc. Economy class wet food may cost from 10 rubles (for a pouch weighing 85 g).

Premium and super premium class feeds have a more “meaty” composition. They contain fewer questionable components and can contain up to 65% meat. Premium foods include Brit, Probalance, Hills, etc. These also include Mealfeel. The cost of dry food in this class reaches 480 rubles per 1 kg; they are advertised less often than economy class food. Super premium products include Leonardo, Summit, Blitz, etc. They are more expensive than premium products and cannot be bought in a regular store.

Holistic feeds are considered the highest quality. These include Acana, Farmina, Grandorf, etc. Humans can also eat these foods, since they can contain up to 100% meat. Holistics do not contain synthetic additives, they do not require advertising, and they can only be purchased from official representatives. Of course, the food is of the highest quality and costs accordingly (up to 1000 rubles per 400 g of dry food).

“Milfil” occupies a position on a par with “Hills”, “Proplan”, “Sheba”, etc.

Advantages and disadvantages of Milfil food

The main advantages of Mealfeel food:

  • the composition contains protein of animal origin (meat component);
  • the food is rich in minerals and vitamins;
  • manufacturers use only natural preservatives;
  • assortment (several types of food in various packaging options, several flavors);
  • There is food for cats of different ages and a veterinary line.
  • Milfil food is not sold in every pet store;
  • insufficiently clear formulation of the composition (for example, “plant components” can be cereals, herbs, soy, etc.);
  • overpriced (pouch can cost up to 60 rubles).

Despite belonging to the premium class, Milfil food can only be purchased in a specialized store, from veterinarians or on online sites

Wet cat food

It is a food that is in a transitional stage from dry to canned food. The moisture content of the attractive, fragrant pieces is half the percentage of the canned varieties. Wet food is packaged in disposable bags according to the norm for one meal . It is not recommended to leave leftovers for the next meal, since wet food, after drying, becomes poor in vitamins and minerals.

Modern cat nutrition is represented by so many species that the eyes of an inexperienced owner of a cute fluffy cat are wide-eyed. Even low-quality food is packaged in beautiful packaging and a smell that is attractive to cats is added; the animals eat it with pleasure. Therefore, it is important to figure out what is best to feed the animal. Cat food is divided into several classes.

Economical option

By-products are used to prepare food mass. Modern grinding machines cope with those parts of the carcass that are not used in the production of human food. Such ingredients include skin, entrails, beaks, claws, hooves, and diseased animal tissue . All this is diluted with low-grade cereals, soybeans, enriched with flavor enhancers, chemicals and paints, and compressed into neat granules for an attractive appearance.

This type of cat food, according to user reviews, does not require too much money from the family budget. With its help, many owners of furry pets satisfy the animal's appetite, forgetting about the principle of healthy nutrition. Everyday use of the brands Whiskas, Meow, Friskas, Kitikat, Darling does not saturate the animal’s body with nutrients for full growth and restoration of strength . The brands of the listed feeds do not contain meat; the name of a commercial product is used to advertise them, but this does not change the essence.

Improved premium class or medium

The food contains grains of a more acceptable quality; meat products in their natural form occupy a small percentage of the total weight. The basic necessary vitamins and substances are introduced. Speaking about chemical additives , there is a sufficient amount of them in the premium class . Reviews from cat owners indicate the availability of such animal nutrition, since the cost is almost no different from the economy class.

Food of such a gradation no longer poses a serious danger to the cat’s body, constant use is possible, and the price of wet food suits consumers. By eating this class of food, cats receive the basic ingredients necessary for life.

Super premium food

The cat food classifier puts this type of food in first place in terms of sales. Reviews from lovers of furry pets say that everyone wants to see their cat playful, without health problems. Hills food falls into this category, since the food has the necessary balanced set of nutrients, developed from a scientific point of view.

Wet food of this class is perfectly absorbed by the cat's body; manufacturers produce their favorite brands in the form of medicinal lines. The body copes with digestion of food easily, since food contains the required amount of proteins, which is very important for cats . Selected types of grains are added, although the main thing for furry pets is the content of meat products. Chemical additives and flavorings are almost never present in quality brands.

Holistic group nutrition

High-quality food is preferred by owners of very purebred cats; they are used by owners of prestigious professional catteries. Meat ingredients make up the bulk of the food , grains are present in very small quantities, and there are no flavors or chemical additives. Due to the composition, free of harmful substances, without artificial flavors, many kittens do not eat high-calorie food at first, but over time they get used to it and eat it with pleasure.

Assortment and features of feed

Mealfeel is available in the form of dry and wet food.

Dry food "Milfil"

Mealfeel complete dry food is available in 400 g and 1.5 kg packages. A small package can cost up to 300 rubles, a large one - up to 1000 rubles. There are several options:

  • Indoor (“Indoor”) - for cats that do not have access to the street;
  • Senior (“Senior”) - for adult cats from 7 years old;
  • Digest Sensitive (“Digest Sterilized”) - for animals with a delicate gastrointestinal tract;
  • Cat Sterilized - for sterilized and neutered individuals;
  • Kitten - for kittens up to 1 year.

Each of these lines is available in several flavors: turkey with chicken or salmon, ocean fish or lamb.

Milfil crickets also differ in packaging - the bags have a pattern of a specific color (K - for kittens, S - for sterilized, etc.)

Main castGuaranteed composition
  • meat and offal (up to 45%);
  • peas, rice, animal fat (6%);
  • flax seeds;
  • egg powder, yeast;
  • carrots, Antarctic krill;
  • chicory, pea protein;
  • ammonium chloride, cranberry;
  • rosemary, macleia, yucca.
  • proteins - 32%;
  • fats - 16%;
  • carbohydrates - 35.5%;
  • humidity - 7%;
  • fiber - 2.5%.

Often cat owners do not recognize some of the ingredients listed on the packaging. Thus, the composition of “Milfil” includes krill - this is a little-known name for plankton that lives in the waters of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Krill (“Antarctic shrimp”) was first used by the Japanese as an ingredient for preparing dietary dishes. The meat of this type of crustacean is rich in vitamins A, PP, E, B, as well as sodium, potassium, magnesium and other useful minerals.

My sister has a cat, so she often encounters trouble in the form of “cat smell.” The secretions of males often have a specific odor, and their owners have to deal with this using various means. The unpleasant smell of excrement can also be associated with a number of diseases. For some time, my sister had to buy veterinary food containing Yucca Schidigera extract. The extract of this plant is specially added to the formulation of cat food, as it neutralizes unpleasant odors.

Rare components are added to Milfil feed that affect the quality and usefulness of the product.

Wet food "Milfil"

The Mealfeel line of complete food is available in pouches and 85 g cans. The cost of one serving reaches 60 rubles. There are several types of this food:

  • Adult Cat (“Adult Cat”) - for adult cats;
  • Senior (“Senior”) - for cats over 7 years old;
  • Digest Sensitive (“Digest Sensitive”) - for cats with a sensitive gastrointestinal tract;
  • Sterilized light (“Sterilized Light”) - for sterilized and neutered animals;
  • Junior (“Junior”) - for kittens up to 1 year;
  • Beauty (“Beauty”) - for the beauty of the coat.

Using Hill's cat food

The Hills brand is available in various versions depending on the needs of cats and the desire of the owner to provide his kitten with a decent existence. They produce food for daily consumption by healthy pets and as medicinal complexes in the form of canned food, wet and dry food . Veterinarians prescribe Hill's food as a therapeutic food for various ailments of pets, for example, a sensitive stomach, disorders of the genitourinary system, neutered animals and in other cases.

The owner chooses therapeutic food groups to feed the pet only if necessary. For everyday nutrition, it is rational to use a standard nutritional composition. Lightweight medicated food options are not suitable for healthy pets.

Positive features of Hills food

According to consumer reviews, nutrition has advantages over other groups:

  • the cost of the product is affordable to the general public;
  • in the super premium class, according to owner reviews, it is considered one of the most effective nutritional complexes;
  • when used to feed cats, the owner is confident that the animal receives the required amount of nutrients;
  • the brand envisages the production of food for all ages of cats;
  • For animals with problems of internal organs, the treatment series brings significant relief;
  • Available in almost all specialized retail outlets.

Negative characteristics of the feed

Despite the fact that, according to reviews, the food is affordable and the quality is good, it has some disadvantages:

  • the plant component in the composition takes up a percentage of up to 55–70%;
  • due to this, some cats cannot tolerate high carbohydrate content;
  • in weak animals susceptible to allergic reactions, it causes corresponding symptoms;
  • Hills dry groups have higher quality characteristics than wet group nutrition.

In order for the pet to feel great, the owners take an individual approach. Consultations with a veterinarian are of great importance , but observing the behavior of furry pets will indicate the need to eat one or another food after each meal. General nutritional recommendations look like this:

  • for small kittens, the names Nature Best Kitten with Chicken, Hills Science Plan Kitten Chicken, Hills Science Plan Kitten Tuna are suitable;
  • neutered animals are successfully fed Hills Science Plan Young Adult Sterilized;
  • adult pets receive nutrients with Adult Feline Sensitive Skin, Adult Feline Hairball Control.

What food to replace "Milfil"

A cat owner may have difficulty purchasing Mealfeel. For example, financial difficulties may occur, or the food may not be available in the usual store. In this case, you can replace this product with a different brand of food:

  • premium class (Royal Canin, Iams, Wellkiss, etc.);
  • super premium class (Pronature Original, Bozita, 1st Choice, Profine, etc.);
  • holistic (Farmina, Grandorf, Eagle Pack, Nutram, etc.).

Reviews of Milfil food from veterinarians and cat owners

I have two cats and a female cat, all of different ages, but the only thing they have in common is that they are all sterilized. Therefore, we will talk about food for sterilized cats. Why did you decide to switch to this food? Yes, because there were three cats and they ate Proplan, which was quite expensive... besides, they were constantly hungry. It felt like food was flying into the pipe! The store once recommended Mealfeel food to me; they had it on sale, but I didn’t dare buy it right away, but first looked for information about it. As I wrote above, I didn’t find any reviews, the only thing I found about the food was that it is produced in Belgium (unlike Proplan, which is produced in Russia) and that its meat content is 40% (in Proplan it is 20%). Accordingly, cats should eat more of this food. The price is not much different, but there is more meat!

Cat food Mealfeel

Reviews from customers who have used the food for pet cats say that the composition of the food differs from economy class food only in the higher content of protein ingredients. The packaging states that the food contains lamb, but after reading the composition, the buyer learns that the declared meat contains only 4% , the rest of the meat is listed as meat and meat derivatives of unknown origin in the amount of 36%. The composition also includes vegetable protein, which contains about 2%, fish by-products in the amount of 1.5%. There are few complete proteins in the diet, and ordinary by-products are called meat derivatives.

According to veterinarians, it is easy to change economy class to Hills food; you just need to follow some simple rules. Over the course of a week, for constant adaptation, the owner mixes the new food with the old one in small quantities; by the end of the period, the advantage remains on the side of the Hills food. Some animals are hostile to the transition, and it takes a month to get used to it.

Many cat owners, when bringing them to the veterinarian for intestinal upset, begin their story by buying random food from an unknown manufacturer in a supermarket. The goal is to feed the pet to its fullest. Under no circumstances should you do this, otherwise you can get into serious trouble. The cat's stomach does not quickly switch to other foods and an imbalance is observed. Other owners simply use human food if they have not stocked up on the usual food, which also does not lead to anything good.

Cheap economy class varieties contain many flavor enhancers and baits to attract furry pets. Switching cats to more advanced food is difficult; improved food has a natural taste that they are not used to. The owner is persistent and gradually the pets begin to eat healthy food.
