  • drops for oral use;

Stop-Stress drops for cats are packaged in PET bottles, which are equipped with dropper pipettes for convenient measuring of the drug. The medicinal liquid is dark in color and has a characteristic herbal odor.

Tablets are available in several versions - weighing 120, 200 and 500 mg (the latter are not used for cats). Convenient polymer jars with screw-on lids are used for their packaging.

The main active component is a chemically synthesized substance - phenibut. Herbal extracts complement its effect:

  • motherwort;
  • Baikal skullcap;
  • hops;
  • catnip (present only in drops);
  • peony (present only in tablets).

Both drops and tablets contain auxiliary components. The manufacturer indicates the full composition of the medicine on the packaging and instructions for use.

Characteristics of the drug Stop-stress for cats

The drug is a combination remedy for pets and is produced (now called Apicenna) by the largest Russian manufacturer of veterinary products. Designed to reduce agitation and get rid of behavioral disorders caused by psychological reasons, as well as to prevent motion sickness in cats during transportation.

In what form is the drug available and what does it consist of?

Stop stress has two forms: solid (tablets) and liquid (drops). For cats, a solution of the product is usually purchased, since for tablets it is more difficult to calculate the required dose. Both forms contain phenibut and plant extracts, as well as other substances. Due to the combination of synthetic and natural components, the medicine is called combined.

The tablets are brown in color and have a rough structure, packaged in blisters or plastic containers with screw caps. Next, the medicine is placed in cardboard boxes.

One jar contains 15 tablets of the product

There are two types of Stop-Stress tablets with different contents of active ingredients: 200 mg and 500 mg.

  • distilled water - up to 1 ml.

How does the medicine affect the animal's body?

Phenibut, which is the basis of the drug, is a stimulant that increases mental performance and reduces anxiety and anxiety. It is actively used in human pharmacology. Phenibut normalizes cerebral circulation, relieves spasms and balances the processes of excitation and inhibition in the central nervous system, thereby increasing its adaptive capabilities.

Phenibut increases the resistance of the nervous system to adverse environmental influences

The effect is complemented by the mild sedative (calming) and soporific effect of the phytocomplex. Extracts of medicinal plants also relieve pain and inflammation, reduce spasms and have a detrimental effect on microbes.

One of the components of the drug Stop-Stress - Scutellaria baicalensis extract - has a calming effect superior to motherwort and valerian.

Thanks to this combination of active ingredients, Stop-Stress allows pets to adapt to life changes, reduces aggression and anxiety, internal tension, and helps to recover faster from psychological trauma.

Stop-stress is a low-hazard drug (4th hazard class according to GOST 12.1.007–76) and is harmless to your pet in properly selected doses.

My friend tried Stop Stress (drops) when transporting a cat to another country. The poor animal had to travel in a carrier on trains and planes for 24 hours. They started giving her stop stress 2 days before the trip. As a result, the cat meowed a little on the first train, since she was riding it for the first time in her life. Then she calmed down and stoically endured the rest of the journey. I was especially pleased that she was silent on the plane, because few passengers want to fly to cat songs. So Stop Stress has fulfilled its function (or the cat itself is calm). I myself used a similar drug for my old cat - Fitex. I chose it specifically for its natural composition (without phenibut). And she probably made a mistake. The cat, despite her old age, began to organize night concerts. I gave her Fitex for about a week, and during this time nothing changed in the cat’s behavior. I did not add hormonal medications because the cat is old. Thus, Fitex had no effect other than increased salivation in the cat after instillation. The screams subsided on their own after a couple of weeks, and next time I decided to try a drug based on phenibut.

Operating principle

Stop-Stress is a combined antidepressant, the properties of which are determined by the main components:

  • Phenibut has a wide spectrum of action. The mechanism of its action is that it stimulates blood circulation in the brain, improves mental processes and normalizes metabolism. Under its influence, the transmission of nerve impulses is restored and, if necessary, excitation is suppressed.
  • Motherwort is one of the most sedative plants that is also used for humans. Motherwort has a beneficial effect on the nervous system, normalizes heart rate and lowers blood pressure.
  • Baikal skullcap has a calming effect, improves sleep, and helps get rid of feelings of fear.
  • Hops have a sedative effect, and also prevent the development of inflammatory processes and relieve pain.
  • Catnip is another plant known for its calming properties. Quite quickly eliminates excessive excitability, gently affecting the central nervous system.
  • Peony is able to eliminate spasms, and also has an antibacterial effect and prevents cramps.

Thanks to its pronounced sedative effect, the drug helps get rid of aggression and excitability, including those caused by unknown factors. When using the medicine, the impact of adverse effects on the nervous system is reduced, and the animal more easily adapts to new conditions.

If Stop-Stress is used for cats according to the instructions, the drug does not cause mutagenic or carcinogenic effects. It is not addictive because its components are not able to accumulate in the body.

Possible side effects and contraindications

If you follow all the recommendations specified in the instructions, there are no side effects. However, in some cases, unpleasant consequences may occur:

  • allergy to the components of the drug;
  • drug overdose.

If you have an allergy, the following symptoms may appear:

  • excessive agitation or drowsiness;
  • nervousness;
  • nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite;
  • skin problems (itching, rashes, etc.).

In such cases, the use of the medication can be discontinued and the cat can be shown to a veterinarian. If such signs appear after the first use of drops or tablets, then you should not panic - this will go away spontaneously.

If your cat has allergy symptoms, you may want to contact your veterinarian

In case of overdose (in addition to the listed symptoms), the following symptoms may be observed:

  • decreased blood pressure;
  • renal dysfunction;
  • problems in the gastrointestinal tract.

In this case, the cat should be immediately shown to a specialist. The veterinarian will prescribe gastric lavage and enterosorbents.

Contraindications for use:

  • increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug;
  • diseases of the genitourinary system;
  • tumors (including mastopathy);
  • diabetes.

Before use, you need to make sure that this is not contraindicated for your cat. There have been cases when owners treated their animals with Stop Stress, but they only got worse due to an illness that was not detected in time. Although the drug is sold without a prescription, consultation with a veterinarian is still advisable.

Indications for use

Stop-Stress is used to correct the behavior of pets in the following cases:

  • under stress caused by various factors;
  • when fear manifests itself (to loud sounds, the presence of strangers in the house, etc.);
  • with excessive activity;
  • during estrus or sexual activity, etc.

The drug can also be used to prevent stress, which is harmful to the health of not only people, but also animals. The consequences of nervous shock in animals manifest themselves in different ways: apathy or aggression, disruption of the digestive system, fear, etc. To prevent such problems, Stop-Stress is recommended to be given to animals in such cases:

  • arrival of guests;
  • apartment renovation;
  • participation in a competition or exhibition;
  • visiting a veterinarian or carrying out medical procedures (injections, vaccinations);
  • visiting a salon;
  • drive;
  • departure of the owner, etc.

Note! When meowing, marking territory or aggressiveness indicating sexual activity, a sedative is combined with contraceptive medications.

Dosage and application features

According to the instructions, the dosage of Stop-Stress in tablets for cats is calculated taking into account the weight of the animal. You also need to pay attention to the weight of the tablets, as they differ in the concentration of active components. A single dose when using tablets weighing 120 mg is:

  • for pets up to 5 kg – 0.5 pcs.;
  • for animals 5-10 kg – 0.5-1 pcs.

When using tablets weighing 200 mg, a single dose is calculated as follows:

  • for animals up to 5 kg – 0.25 pcs.;
  • for cats 5-10 kg – 0.25-0.5 pcs.

Animals are given pills by force. To do this, they need to be placed on the root of the tongue so that the pet is sure to swallow. If such a procedure is too painful for the animal, then the medicine can be mixed with a small amount of its favorite treat.

If a solution is used, the dose is calculated as follows: 1 drop per 1 kg of pet’s weight. Drops can also be given forcefully or mixed with a small amount of food.

Regardless of the dosage form, Stop-Stress is given to pets twice a day. The duration of treatment is usually 2-3 weeks. In case of excessive arousal and pronounced effects of stress, the duration of treatment can be extended to 4 weeks. If, after stopping the course, symptoms of dysfunction of the nervous system return (excitability, aggression, etc.), treatment is carried out again, the duration and dosage remain the same.

To prevent stress during moving, veterinarian visits, and other similar situations, the medication should be started 3-5 days in advance and continued for another 1-4 days after the incident. During sexual activity, the duration of treatment is determined by the doctor depending on the condition of the animal and the use of a contraceptive.

Can it be used by pregnant cats and kittens?

Pregnant and lactating cats should not use this drug. It can be used in kittens, but with great caution (due to possible difficulties in dosing).

Few people know, but kittens are considered animals under the age of 1 year. And for some breeds, high weight at a young age is considered normal. For example, a two-month-old Maine Coon can weigh more than 1.5 kilograms. Therefore, the limitation for the use of Stop Stress is the weight of the animal rather than its age.

My grandmother once had a cat named Muryona. She was already old, but she brought several kittens every year. One day, immediately after another birth, she fell ill with something, and her grandmother had to make her own decision about her treatment. Since we lived in the village, there was no opportunity to call a veterinarian, and besides, at that time it was not customary to “pull” him because of cats. The grandmother tried to give Muryona the medicine left over from the previous time. The cat recovered, but the kittens, unfortunately, died. It turned out that this drug was contraindicated for children.

Stop Stress is contraindicated for pregnant and lactating cats.

What harm can it cause to the animal’s body?

Stop-Stress for cats has a number of contraindications:

  • period of gestation;
  • tumors;
  • lactation;
  • diabetes;
  • diseases of the genitourinary system.

Note! If you are intolerant to phenibut or other substances included in the composition, the use of a sedative is also prohibited.

Sometimes the drug causes drowsiness or nausea, especially when first used. Symptoms usually go away on their own and do not require special treatment or discontinuation of medication. If you are hypersensitive to the components, the following symptoms may appear:

  • drowsiness or excessive excitability;
  • allergic reactions;
  • nausea;
  • irritability.

If such side effects occur, stop using the sedative. If necessary, anti-allergenic drugs and adsorbents are used to remove phenibut and other components from the animal’s body.

If there is a significant overdose, your pet may experience serious health problems:

  • kidney dysfunction;
  • severe drowsiness;
  • decreased blood pressure;
  • vomiting and other symptoms of digestive system dysfunction.

If the dose is exceeded, the cat's stomach should be rinsed. Afterwards, enterosorbents and symptomatic treatment are prescribed.

Contraindications

Contraindications to drops and tablets cannot be neglected, especially if individual intolerance or sensitivity to the composition of the product has already been identified.

Contraindications include:

genitourinary diseases;

various tumor formations;

If during admission it was noticed that the cat began to vomit, had diarrhea, was excessively sleepy or irritable, excitable, then the course of treatment was immediately stopped. Stabilization of the condition occurs in about three days. Otherwise, the animal owner contacts the veterinarian.

Owner reviews

Anastasia, owner of the Canadian Sphynx:

“Our cat is very timid, at the slightest noise he hides in the farthest corner. When a long trip was planned, I had to select a sedative. The pharmacy recommended Stop-Stress drops. Taken strictly according to instructions. As a result, our cat safely survived the 12-day train journey. I can’t say that he didn’t experience stress, given that he refused to eat and drink all the way, but the consequences could have been much worse.”

Lyudmila, owner of a British cat:

“Travelling and flights are a terrible stress for our spoiled cat. We decided to prepare in advance and bought Stop-Stress drops. We tried giving the drug at home to test its effectiveness, but the cat slept the whole day. But on day X the medicine did not work, although they started giving it in advance. The cat was under terrible stress, sitting in the carrier all compressed, his pupils dilated. It took me a long time to recover from the trip, so the effectiveness is 50/50. It doesn’t always work.”

Oksana, owner of a 7-month-old cat:

“Our cat started her first heat at the age of 7 months. The operation was planned for a later date, so it was necessary to endure the constant “solicitation of grooms.” On the advice of the veterinarian, we bought Stop-Stress. The dose was increased slightly because hormonal drugs were not given. This antidepressant for animals has become our real salvation. Immediately after taking the drops, the cat went to bed, and after 3 days of treatment she stopped showing anxiety at all.”
