Instructions for use
The instructions indicate that the specifics of the use of Caforsen for dogs and the dose directly depend on the dosage form.
Injection
It is allowed to administer sterile liquid intramuscularly or subcutaneously. The dose is calculated based on the pet's weight. For every kilogram of weight you need to measure 0.1 ml of the drug. Injections are given once a day. The duration of treatment usually varies from 10 to 21 days. If necessary, the course is repeated after a short break.
When administering the medicine, it is important to follow all the rules of asepsis. Use sterile syringes or pre-boiled needles. It is not recommended to skip medication, as this may lead to a decrease in the therapeutic effect. If missed, treatment should be resumed according to the previously prescribed regimen as soon as possible. There is no need to double the dose.
Pills
When using tablets, the dose is calculated as follows:
- small breed dogs and puppies will need one tablet;
- for pets of medium breeds you should take 2 tablets;
- For large animals, the dose should be increased to 3 tablets.
The daily dose is given once a day. For the best therapeutic effect, it is recommended to give the drug 1 hour before meals. In this case, all mineral components will be absorbed with maximum benefit for the body.
The drug can be given in this form of release in various ways:
- Mix the tablets with a small amount of food (minced meat, chicken or other treat) and offer it to your dog. For small pets, you can crumble them first. Make sure that the animal completely eats the offered “treat”, since reducing the dose may lead to a decrease in effectiveness.
- If your dog refuses to eat tablets mixed with food, open his mouth and place them on the back of his tongue. After this, keep the pet's head raised and stroke it from top to bottom, causing reflex swallowing in the pet.
- If forced administration of the drug is difficult for small dogs and puppies. The tablet must be crushed and mixed with a small amount of clean water, and then inserted into the mouth using a syringe without a needle.
The duration of treatment is usually 3-4 weeks. Depending on the condition of the animal, a second course of treatment may be prescribed.
Dosage
The dosage is determined by the weight of the cat and the chosen method of using the drug: the intramuscular solution acts faster and more efficiently, as it goes directly into the bloodstream. Per kilogram of the cat's weight, take 0.1 ml of medicinal liquid. It is enough to give a Caforsen injection once every 24 hours. The duration of injection treatment depends on the severity of the animal’s condition, and can vary from 1.5 to 3 weeks; A single dose of the tablet form of Caforsen is 1 piece. The medicine is given once a day. Duration of treatment – up to 3 weeks; oral liquid is given to cats once a day for 20-30 days. The dose is measured at the rate of: 1 drop of medicinal composition per 1 kg of patient’s body weight. Usually, one full course is enough to restore the animal. However, if necessary, therapy can be repeated after some time.
Contraindications and side effects
The only contraindication for the use of Caforsen for dogs is individual intolerance to the components. If allergic reactions occur, it is necessary to stop taking the drug and look for medications with a different composition.
The medicine does not cause side effects. In case of intolerance, an allergic reaction may occur. Its symptoms may be:
- redness and itching;
- rashes and other skin problems;
- anxiety or apathy;
- disorders of the gastrointestinal tract (diarrhea, vomiting, nausea).
If such symptoms occur, stop using the medication. The animal usually does not need special treatment, and the symptoms that appear go away on their own. In rare cases, antihistamines are required. In any case, it is better to consult a doctor.
The instructions indicate that Caforsen does not cause unwanted reactions in dogs in case of overdose, but you should still adhere to the recommended doses.
