How to use Azinox for cats

Even a cat that never goes for a walk can become infected with intestinal parasites. The source of infection is the owner's shoes or clothing, raw fish and meat. Manufacturers offer a large number of drugs for treating animals. One of the effective remedies used in veterinary practice is Azinox for cats.

Description and main properties

Azinox is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic drug that helps rid the animal of parasites within a short time. Signs of helminth damage are:

Description of Azinox for cats

  • weakness, lethargy, apathy, lack of activity;
  • decreased appetite, refusal of treats and favorite food;
  • inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eyes, the presence of purulent discharge;
  • hair loss;
  • blood impurities in stool;
  • bloating;
  • vomit;
  • bowel dysfunction;
  • decreased general immunity;
  • pallor of the mucous membranes;
  • muscle weakness, cramps.

The medicine does not have a strong toxic effect and is classified as low-hazard. It is well tolerated by animals and does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic or sensitizing properties.

Indications for use

When affected by tapeworms, cats experience a number of symptoms, which include:

  • Decreased motor activity and general lethargy;
  • Refusal to eat usual food;
  • Deterioration of condition and hair loss;
  • Vomit;
  • The appearance of fragments of worms in vomit and feces.

The presence of such manifestations may indicate that the cat has developed some kind of disease caused by different types of parasites. Azinox effectively rids cats of many types of tapeworms.

It is used for the following diseases caused by parasites:

  • Echinococcosis - manifests itself in the formation of cysts, which can be located in the liver or other internal organs of the animal;
  • Tenidosis – damage to the small intestine;
  • Clonorchiasis, Fascioliasis - diseases of the pancreas, liver and gall bladder;
  • Metagonimiasis – intestinal damage;
  • Diphyllobothriasis – a disorder of the digestive system;
  • Cysticercosis is a lesion of the skin, muscles and eyes.

Only a veterinarian can make a final diagnosis and prescribe a drug. In some cases, Azinox is prescribed to prevent worms in cats that are outdoors.

Composition and mechanism of action

Composition of Azinox

The drug contains the active ingredient praziquantel and auxiliary components - potato starch and lactose. The drug is produced in the form of round, white tablets with a dividing chamfer.

For the treatment of dogs, a special product called Azinox Plus is produced, which contains levamisole. This substance can cause a number of side effects in cats, so this medicine is not used to deworm cats.

Praziquantel has an effect on all types of tapeworms that parasitize the cat's body: broad tapeworm, echinococcus, bovine tapeworm, pork tapeworm, Chinese fluke. The active substance is active not only against sexually mature individuals, but also their larvae and eggs. Typically, tapeworms infect the spinal cord, lungs, liver, and small intestines, causing intoxication of the body and allergic reactions.

The active component inhibits the production of enzymes in the body of helminths. As a result, there is a disruption in the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles and immobilization. The parasite loses its ability to attach to the surface of internal organs and leaves the animal’s body naturally.

Praziquantel is quickly absorbed by the gastric mucosa and enters the general bloodstream. The maximum concentration in organs and tissues is observed 40−60 minutes after application. The effect of the medicine continues throughout the day. The remains are excreted in the urine.

After using the drug, the cat’s body develops immunity for several months. The effectiveness of Azinox has been clinically proven for the following diseases:

Efficiency of Azinox

  • taeniasis;
  • mesocestoidosis;
  • echinococcosis;
  • helminth damage to subcutaneous tissues, spinal cord, smooth muscles;
  • cestodosis

Composition and principle of operation

The drug Azinox, intended for dogs and cats, is an anthelmintic whose active ingredient is praziquantel. The medicine is sold in the form of tablets, packaged in blister packs in quantities of 3 or 6 pieces. Azinox is highly effective and absolutely safe for the pet itself. Its analogue is Azinox Plus, which, in addition to praziquantel, contains another active ingredient - pyrantel pamoate, which provides the drug with a longer therapeutic effect. Azinox is non-toxic and causes virtually no side effects, and is suitable for any breed.

The action of the medication is aimed at paralyzing and destroying parasites living in the body of kittens and adult cats.

This kind of anthelmintics has a blocking effect on the muscles of cestodes, paralyzing their activity and destroying the epithelial cells of the parasite. As a result, they lose their protective properties and die. "Azinox" begins to act almost immediately after the dose is taken. The maximum concentration of praziquantel in the kitten’s blood is observed already in the first half hour to an hour and the pet’s condition begins to gradually recover. Symptoms of helminthiasis disappear, such as:

After using the drug, hair loss in your pet stops.

  • lethargy;
  • rapid hair loss;
  • lack of appetite, physical activity;
  • vomit;
  • stool disorders;
  • weakened immunity;
  • bloating and increase in its volume;
  • convulsions.

Purpose

Azinox is used for the prevention and treatment of helminthic infestations if the causative agent of the disease is identified. During preventive deworming, it protects the pet’s body from tape parasites and flukes, but is ineffective against roundworms (nematodes), due to which it does not exclude infection by the latter.

The drug is effective for the following types of helminthic infestations:

  • taeniasis;
  • echinococcosis;
  • dipylidiosis;
  • diphyllobothriasis;
  • mesocestoidosis, etc.

The danger of cestodes is that they not only poison the body with traces of their vital activity, but also disrupt the functioning of vital organs. It is difficult to treat cestodiasis: the parasites create a protective calcareous shell around themselves.

Tapeworms parasitize the small intestine. They differ in size and can reach a length of up to 60 cm. The body of the helminth consists of many segments, each of which contains a large number of eggs. When they mature, the segment falls off from the body, and the larvae develop further.

With a small number of parasites in the pet’s body, the symptoms of infestation may not be noticeable. Severe infection is manifested by the following symptoms:

  • vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation;
  • hypovitaminosis;
  • inflammation of the glands;
  • itching around the anus, in which the cat often licks the anus.

Hydatigerosis is a helminthic infestation caused by tapeworms that parasitize the small intestine. The disease is severe in young animals: it manifests itself as a disorder of digestive function, sometimes with intestinal obstruction.

Another type of disease is hymenolepiasis. The causative agent is the dwarf tapeworm, the smallest tapeworm. It can only be detected by analyzing stool. A minor infection does not manifest itself clinically, although sometimes when helminths damage the intestinal walls, diarrhea and intestinal inflammation are possible.

Another type of helminthic infestation is mesocestoidosis. A severe infection is dangerous, which leads to severe digestive upset, dystrophic processes in the intestines, and intestinal blockage.

Release form

Azinox is a proven remedy for worms. According to veterinarians, it copes remarkably well with all types of tape parasites (cestodes).

The mentioned tablets are sold in currency units containing 3 or 6 pills.

Azinox is capable of destroying the above-mentioned worms completely. It kills larvae, adult parasites, and even eggs. At home, the medicine is most often used as a prophylactic.

The drug is also capable of ridding a cat of the following helminths:

  • echinococcus;
  • tapeworm;
  • wide tape;
  • Chinese fluke;
  • pork tapeworm.

All these parasites prefer to live directly in:

  • small intestine of cats;
  • kidneys;
  • liver;
  • lungs;
  • spinal cord.

Their waste products provoke allergies and disorders in the functioning of various body systems.

Azinox is also indicated for cats as an effective remedy for the following pathologies:

  • clonorchiasis;
  • fascioliasis;
  • taeniasis;
  • metagonimiasis;
  • diphyllobothriasis;
  • cysticercosis.

All of them are provoked by parasitic worms.

Instructions for use

Azinox tablets are intended for oral use. They are usually given shortly before morning feeding, mixed with a small amount of food. The dosage of the drug is calculated taking into account the weight of the cat: one Azinox tablet per 10 kg of weight.

If the pet's weight does not exceed 5 kg, then the medicine is used in the form of an aqueous suspension. To prepare it, one tablet should be crushed into powder and mixed with 10 ml of warm water. The resulting solution is thoroughly mixed and administered using a dispenser or a disposable syringe without a needle at the rate of 1 ml per 1 kg of animal weight.

Instructions for use Azinox

To treat helminthic infestations, the drug is used once. For preventive purposes, Azinox tablets for cats are recommended for use once a quarter. Before deworming, it is not necessary to follow a starvation diet or cleanse the intestines with laxatives.

Features of application

Both tablets and suspension must be given orally

Important: a diet is not required before using an anthelmintic. There is also no need to use laxatives

It is recommended to give the medicine in the morning so that the parasites die and leave the cat's gastrointestinal tract during the day.

Prazitel is recommended for use in the morning feeding

Tablets: dosage selection and treatment regimen

To treat helminthic infestations, Prazitel tablets are used only once. The dosage is determined based on the weight of the animal and the modification of the tablets:

  • “Prazitel for cats” - 1 tablet per 4 kg of body weight;
  • “Prazitel for kittens and puppies” - 1 tablet per 1 kg of body weight.

If the use of the medicine does not help, the procedure can be repeated after 10 days. To prevent helminthiases, tablets should be used once a quarter (or 10 days before vaccination).

How to give a pill to a cat

The tablet can be given to an animal in several ways:

  • chop and mix with water, minced meat or food;
  • using a tablet dispenser (this is a device that works on the principle of a syringe);
  • forced (force the cat to swallow the medicine).

From my own experience, I can say that mixing medicine with food does not always help. For example, one of my cats can sense if food smells like something foreign. I use the tablet dispenser only when treating kittens (the older cat runs away from unfamiliar objects). For her, the ideal option is forced enforcement. Of course, you cannot coax, scream or hit a cat. You need to put the tablet on the root of the tongue so that the cat has to swallow it reflexively. Sticking the pill in with your finger is also not an option. You need to hold the cat, tilt its head back, unclench its jaws with one hand, and lower the tablet with the other (if the cat’s head is positioned correctly, it will fall into the right place).

The tablet will fall on the root of the tongue if it is lowered vertically towards the pharynx

Suspension: dosage selection and treatment regimen

The suspension is also used once. A single dose can be given to the cat with food or forcefully. To do this, you need to use a dosing syringe (1 ml per 1 kg of body weight). If an anthelmintic is used for prophylactic purposes, then this should be done once every 3 months.

Can it be used in pregnant cats and kittens?

Kittens can be dewormed no earlier than three weeks of age. Prevention of worms should be carried out no more than once a quarter.

Prazitel can also be used in pregnant cats, but only in the second half of pregnancy. Lactating cats are dewormed 20 days after birth. In this case, you need to be extremely careful (it is recommended to use the medicine under the supervision of a veterinarian).

I had to deworm a pregnant cat. This was her first pregnancy, and I was very worried about the expectant mother. We went to the veterinarian in the morning, and took with us the medicine we had purchased in advance. The veterinarian said that we could do everything at home, and just in case, he gave us a business card with his phone number. If something went wrong, he could be called. In our case, the help of a veterinarian was not required; deworming was successful.

Prazitel can be used in kittens older than 3 weeks, pregnant cats in the second half of pregnancy and lactating females

What to do in case of overdose

In general, no cases of overdose with Prazitel have been established. But if you incorrectly calculate the dosage or make a mistake when choosing a drug, then the therapeutic dose of the drug may be exceeded. Characteristic symptoms of overdose:

  • nausea, vomiting;
  • lethargy, weakness;
  • changed behavior;
  • fainting;
  • foam at mouth;
  • limb spasms, etc.

In such cases, you should immediately contact a veterinarian.

Personal safety measures when in contact with the drug

When working with the anthelmintic Prazitel, you must follow the general rules:

  • Before starting and after finishing work, you should thoroughly wash your hands with warm water and soap;
  • When working with the drug, you can use personal protective equipment;
  • in case of accidental contact of the drug with the skin or mucous membranes of the eyes, they must be rinsed with plenty of water;
  • people with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug should avoid direct contact with the suspension;
  • in case of allergic reactions or if the drug accidentally enters the human body, you should immediately contact a medical facility (take the instructions for use or label with you);
  • Empty medicine packages must not be used for household purposes; they must be disposed of with household waste.

If you are allergic to medications, you can wear medical gloves on your hands when working with Prazitel

Instructions on how to take

  1. Crush the tablet of the drug using a teaspoon.
  2. Pour the powder into a mug, and then add 10-15 ml of boiled water.
  3. Thoroughly stir the powder in water to prepare a suspension, then you need to collect it in a syringe.
  4. The suspension should be given to the pet little by little; it is advisable that you have an assistant who will hold the cat.
  5. Try to hit the palate, in which case the medicine will enter the esophagus.

The drug can be used both to remove worms from the cat’s body and for prevention. Be sure to read the operating instructions before use.

how to make a suspension

Composition and principle of action

Azinox tablets are white, round in shape. They contain the main active ingredient praziquantel. In addition to it, starch and lactose are present.

It is difficult to remove the parasite from the animal’s body because the worm clings firmly to the internal walls. It is this ability that excludes the option of natural exit from the body.

Azinox affects the body of the parasite, disrupting the production of enzymes. Because of this, the work of impulses and muscles is disrupted, which entails complete immobilization of the worm. Deprived of the ability to cling, the helminth is naturally eliminated from the cat’s body.

Appearance of the drug

Contraindications and side effects

Cats tolerate this drug well. However, its use is contraindicated in the following cases:

Side effects of Azinox

  • hypersensitivity to substances included in the drug;
  • risk of developing an allergic reaction;
  • chronic liver failure;
  • parasite infection of the eyeball.

The medicine is not used to treat kittens less than three weeks old, since praziquantel has a negative effect on the formation of bone and cartilage tissue and can inhibit the growth of the animal.

Azinox contraindications

The product is used with extreme caution to treat pregnant and lactating cats, since the active substance can cross the placental barrier and enter breast milk, causing a negative effect on the offspring.

Violation of the dosage may lead to side effects. In this case, animals may experience nausea, vomiting, stool disturbances, general weakness, and heart rhythm disturbances. If symptoms persist for two days, you should consult a veterinarian.

Side effect

They are observed extremely rarely. Basically, these are allergic reactions that manifest themselves as follows:

  • loose stools;
  • vomit;
  • slight lethargy;
  • lethargy;
  • frequent pulse.

In this situation, the drug should be abandoned. Instead, another one is prescribed that does not contain praziquantel. A cat must be shown to a veterinarian if its condition worsens significantly.

Azinox is not given to animals:

  • up to 3 weeks of age;
  • with hypersensitivity to the substances it contains.

Description of the medicine

Azinox Plus has a wide range of therapeutic effects; initially this drug was used in veterinary medicine, where the drug showed its best performance.

The active substance is praziquantel. This anthelmintic medicine is available in the form of tablets for oral use. One package of Azinox Plus contains 10 pills, the price of the product ranges from 200-400 rubles, depending on the pharmacy and region.

The drug has great activity against various forms of parasitic worms, including round and tapeworms, as well as some types of protozoa.

The mechanism of action of the tablets is based on dysfunction of the neuromuscular system, which causes a strong contraction of muscle fibers and leads to the gradual development of worm paralysis. In addition, the active component of the drug can destroy the skin structure of parasites and lead to failure of vital functions.

Adsorption of the anthelmintic drug occurs in the liver, the maximum content of medicinal substances in the human body is observed after 2 hours from the moment of application of Azinox. The drug is excreted primarily by the kidneys, so in case of severe pathologies of this organ, the use of the drug is contraindicated.

Purpose and properties of the drug Azinox plus

Domestic pharmaceutical scientists developed Azinox for veterinary purposes. The product is intended to prevent infection by flatworms (cystodes) and destroy them. It cannot be classified as a medicine with a broad spectrum of action, so it must be used strictly as directed.

The anthelmintic drug is available in tablet form. They are yellow in color and have a specific smell. In pharmacies, tablets are sold in blisters and packaged in 3 or 6 pieces. It contains information about taking the drug, the manufacturer, expiration dates and dosage of the drug for dogs. The medicine is packaged in a cardboard box and instructions for its use are attached to it.

The main components that make up Azinox plus are:

  • pyrantel pamoate;
  • Praziquantel

In addition to these two main substances, it also contains auxiliary substances - potato starch and lactose. After administration, the medicine affects the inner and outer membranes, muscle tissue of parasites that have entered the body. After this, the neuromuscular innervation is blocked. Then comes paralysis and death of the helminths.

The drug is prescribed for prophylactic purposes, as well as for the treatment of the following diseases in animals:

  • nematosis;
  • cestadosis;
  • multiceptosis.

The drug during treatment is well tolerated by dogs of different breeds and ages. It effectively affects adult helminths, as well as larvae and eggs.

Advantages and disadvantages

Azinox is often used to control tape parasites in domestic animals. The main advantages of the drug are:

Tape parasites in domestic animals

  • high efficiency after the first use;
  • wide spectrum of action;
  • safety;
  • fast action;
  • possibility of use for treatment and prevention;
  • simple application.

Among the disadvantages is the inability to use it to kill roundworms. Azinox should also not be used on kittens under three weeks of age.

When to use

The drug is used to treat the following helminthic infestations in cats:

  • dipylidia;
  • taeniasis;
  • echinococcosis;
  • mesocestidia;
  • diphyllobothriasis.

Sad cat

In the above diseases, tapeworms usually affect the small intestine and other parts of the gastrointestinal tract. Parasites can also settle in the liver, lungs and other organs. It is important to promptly notice signs of helminthic infestation (decreased appetite, vomiting or stomach upset) and take action, since parasites not only worsen the pet’s quality of life, but can also be fatal.

Note! Azinox is used for treatment only after tests have been taken and the tests have been confirmed. The drug does not affect roundworms.

The medicine affects not only adult helminths, but also larvae, therefore it is successfully used to prevent infection with tapeworms.

Operating principle

Praziquantel has a wide spectrum of antiparasitic action. It is effective against many types of tapeworms that can parasitize the intestines, liver, lungs and other organs of pets. The active substance affects the course of metabolic processes and the functioning of the nervous system. As a result of this action, paralysis occurs in the worms within a short period of time, which inevitably leads to their death.

An important property of praziquantel is that it promotes the natural release of parasites from the body. Thanks to this, the risk of intoxication due to helminthic infestation is reduced. When the worms die, they begin to release toxins that can poison the animal's body. When using Azinox, such a problem can be avoided, and there is no need to do cleansing enemas or give your pet laxatives.

The anthelmintic agent is highly effective and quick-acting. In just an hour, and sometimes less, the concentration of the active substance reaches its maximum value, since it quickly penetrates from the gastrointestinal tract into the bloodstream. The drug is removed from the pet’s body within a day.

Since the content of the active substance in the medicine is carefully calculated, it is considered safe. When used correctly, it does not cause mutations and does not have a toxic effect on the body. It does not accumulate in the body and is not addictive, so it can be effectively used for prevention over a long period.

It is sold in regular veterinary pharmacies or online pharmacies for animals. The price of a package of Azinox of 6 tablets is 80-90 rubles, depending on the region.

Owner reviews

I have been using the product for more than two years for preventive purposes for two cats and a dog. Tests were taken several times, which confirmed the absence of helminths in the animals. I can safely say that Azinox works. If the instructions are strictly followed, it is completely safe and does not cause side effects.

Svetlana

A good remedy that helps cope with worms. I think the main advantages are the low price. I have used it several times for preventive purposes. There were no side effects. The cat feels great. I think the only drawback is the need to spend time preparing the suspension.

Kirill

Our cat often goes outside for walks, so we constantly give her deworming tablets. On the recommendation of a doctor, I purchased Azinox. The product is effective and helps to quickly get rid of parasites. After the medicine the animal feels great. It is very important to read the instructions carefully and not exceed the dosage. Pauline

Pharmacological properties and composition

In the instructions for the drug you can find all the necessary information on the composition. This will help you make the right choice of anthelmintic for dogs that are allergic to certain components. The main active ingredients of Azinox are pyrantel pamoate and praziquantel. There are also auxiliary components, including potato starch and lactose.

The principle of action of Azinox is as follows:

  • Praziquantel inhibits the enzymes of worms, damages their membrane and causes innervation of the muscles of the helminths. All this leads to paralysis and subsequent rapid death of the parasites. The drug is absorbed by the intestines, its maximum concentration is observed after an hour, and after a day the active component is excreted from the body along with urine.
  • Pyrantel is slowly absorbed in the stomach; this component has a pronounced prolonged effect. It prevents helminths from adhering to the intestinal walls, blocks the transmission of motor and nerve impulses of parasites, immobilizes them, leading to the rapid death of worms.

Release form

Azinox is produced in the form of white tablets with a dividing strip on one side and a logo on the second (a shield located in the center).

Tablets are packaged in blisters of 6 pcs. Their external packaging is a box made of cardboard.

Precautionary measures

The owner should be careful when treating a cat. Feces and vomit of a sick animal must be removed using rubber gloves. A cat infected with a flatworm should not be allowed near human food, dishes, the kitchen table, etc.

If the owner gives Azinox to a cat from a syringe, it is important to avoid bites. After contact with your pet, you must immediately wash your hands with soap to avoid the possibility of becoming infected with helminths. Flatworms that live in the body of cats are no less dangerous to humans. Some of them lead to lesions incompatible with life.

The drug Azinox is intended to rid pets of parasites. For treatment, give a cat or dog one dose of a praziquantel-based product by simply adding a crushed tablet to the food. Veterinarians also recommend using this drug once every three months to prevent re-infection with flatworms.

Helminths and cats. Cats and helminths - alas, this combination is familiar to almost every breeder, and there is nothing to say about veterinarians. The diversity of these parasites is sometimes unpleasantly surprising, but there is a pleasant circumstance. Today, the pharmaceutical industry produces so many drugs that dealing with uninvited guests will not be difficult. Azinox can help with this. This medicine is especially good for cats, as it is guaranteed to kill worms without causing severe side effects.

Features of the therapeutic course

Instructions for use

Before giving the tablet to an animal, the owner must crush it.
As soon as a worm is found in the feces, you need to contact a veterinarian to clarify the dosage of the Azinox medication. Typically, the dose is prescribed at the rate of: for every 10 kg of cat weight, 1 tablet. anthelmintic medicine. The tablets, after being crushed, are given to the cat during the first meal. Cats weighing less than 5 kg need to prepare a suspension by grinding 1 tablet. into powder and diluting it with 10 ml of purified water to obtain a homogeneous consistency. The prepared liquid is drawn into a syringe without a needle and gradually poured into the purr’s oral cavity. It is important that the dosage of the suspension for cats of this weight does not exceed 1 ml per kilogram of the animal. Veterinarians also recommend drinking Azinox regularly once every 3 months to prevent relapse of helminth infection.

Limitations and adverse reactions

No matter how useful and highly effective the deworming drug Azinox is, it is not always allowed to use it to treat helminthic infestations in cats. Thus, the medication is contraindicated in kittens less than 3 weeks old, animals with problems with liver function, and also if the location of the parasite is the cat’s eyeball. You should not give Azinox to your pet if he has a personal intolerance to the ingredients in the anthelmintic pharmaceutical product.

If you give the drug to your pet in a larger dose, it may become lethargic.

If allergic reactions occur during treatment with Azinox, it should be replaced with another medication similar in composition and action or the dosage adjusted. Usually the medicine is well tolerated, but occasionally deworming tablets cause side effects, including disturbances in bowel movements, lethargy, convulsions, and loss of appetite. Often, negative effects when using Azinox occur as a result of exceeding the doses recommended by the doctor.

special instructions

During anthelmintic therapy, a person should be especially careful. Feces and vomit from an infected cat must be removed using medical gloves. Do not allow your pet near the kitchen table, dishes or food of the owner. When pouring medicine into the cat's mouth from a syringe, you need to avoid the bite as much as possible. Immediately after contact with your pet, you should wash your hands with antibacterial soap. Parasites are no less dangerous for the human body, and some of them can even cause complications that threaten human life.
