FELOCEL CVR 1 dose + solvent vaccine for cats

One of the best and most effective methods of prevention against most dangerous and acute diseases is vaccination, which starts from an early age. The choice of vaccine is an important point that determines the success and consequences of vaccination. Among the drugs used, recommended by veterinarians, “Felocel” is often found. But even if the product is selected by an experienced specialist, the animal owner should become more familiar with all the nuances of its use.

general description

The drug can be found on sale under two names - “Felocel 4” and “Felocel CRV”. The product is designed to vaccinate cats and cats exclusively; it is prohibited for use with other animals. The manufacturer is American.

The drug is a preparation of inactivated microorganisms for the production of a vaccine aimed at forming primary immunity against such dangerous diseases as viral rhinotracheitis, calcivirus, chlamydia and panleoicopenia.

The package contains two units of different substances, which are equivalent components of Felocel. One of them is a lyophilisate, that is, the main active ingredient, and the second is a bottle with a solvent. A medical solution for injection is used as a solvent. Both components are packaged in glass bottles of different colors with corresponding labels. The active ingredients are contained in a bottle with a yellow label, and the solvent is in a white one. Hermetic closure is ensured by a rubber stopper and aluminum caps.

The contents of the yellow bottle resemble a porous white substance, and the solvent is a clear, colorless liquid with a volume of 1 ml. One cardboard box contains 25 jars of each component and detailed instructions for vaccinating cats.

Special instructions and conditions for saving

If the drug gets on exposed skin or mucous membranes, rinse the area with plenty of water.
The abstract for the drug "Felotsel 4" requires compliance with the general rules of sanitary hygiene and safety measures that are provided for when working with animal vaccination. People who are involved in revaccination are required to have special clothing. If the substance accidentally gets on the skin or mucous membrane, then you need to urgently rinse the affected area with plenty of water. In case the infusion occurs accidentally to a person, then this place should be disinfected with ethyl alcohol, and then immediately go to a medical institution.

The drug is stored and transported in its original special packaging in a dry and dark place at a temperature of 2 to 7 ºС. Freezing is not allowed. Storage in closed places is necessary for children. All instructions and precautions contained in the instructions for use must be strictly observed.

Operating principle

The principle of action of “Felocel” is based on the fact that it contains various strains of live viruses that cause diseases. During preparation, they are subjected to such manipulations, after which they remain alive, but have the following characteristics:

  • cannot provoke the onset of illness after administration;
  • retain immunogenicity, that is, they cause the production of specific agents of the immune system that are in the body for a certain period of time and will be activated in the event of an encounter with a pathogen.

The result of the introduction of the drug "Felocel" into the body is the formation of stable immunity against calcivirus, viral rhinotracheitis, chlamydia and panleukopenia. You need to know that the immune response is developed within three weeks after the manipulation. If an encounter with a pathogen occurs before 21 days have elapsed after the administration of Felocel, the result will be the development of the disease. Immunity lasts for one year, after which the cat’s vaccination must be repeated.

It is important to remember that Felocel is not a drug, therefore, if you have symptoms of rhinotracheitis, calcivirus and other diseases for which the drug is developed, its use is not advisable.

Personal prevention measures

When working with the vaccine, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety precautions provided for when working with veterinary medicinal products. All persons involved in vaccination must be provided with special clothing. If the vaccine accidentally gets on the skin and/or mucous membranes, they must be washed with plenty of clean water. If the drug is accidentally administered to a person, the injection site must be treated with a 70% ethyl alcohol solution and contact a medical facility.

Mode of application

It is recommended to vaccinate cats and kittens no earlier than they reach the age of three months. The administration schedule for Felocel is as follows:

  • 12 weeks – one dose;
  • 16 weeks – one dose;
  • 1 year 4 months – one dose.

Then “Felotsel” is used once a year, which gives a lasting result. If any of the stages is missed for any reason, you need to vaccinate as soon as possible and not further deviate from the scheme.

Before administration, you need to prepare a solution of both components. To do this, use a sterile syringe to draw up the entire volume of the solvent and inject it through a rubber stopper into the vaccine. Mixing should only be done in this order, and not vice versa. After addition, the solution is vigorously shaken until complete dissolution and averaging of the structure.

After preparing the drug “Felocel”, the needle insertion site is treated with a 7% alcohol solution to prevent infection. The injection is performed subcutaneously or intramuscularly. Usually, the administration of the drug does not cause pain in the cat.

Violation of the injection algorithm can reduce the effectiveness of Felocel, so you cannot deviate from the instructions.

After preparing the solution, it can be used within half an hour, but after 30 minutes it quickly loses its properties, so the unused liquid is discarded and disposed of. To do this, boiling and disinfection with an alkaline solution of 2% or chloramine solution of 5% should be carried out. In this case, there are no special requirements for disposal as for solutions - sources of risk of bacterial contamination.

The vaccine is harmless and has no medicinal properties.

ORDER OF APPLICATION OF THE DRUG The Felocel CVR vaccine is intended for preventive immunization of cats against viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus infection and panleukopenia. Only healthy animals are vaccinated.

Before immunization, add the contents of 1 bottle of solvent into the vaccine vial using a sterile syringe and shake thoroughly.

The vaccine is administered to animals in a volume of 1.0 ml (1 immunizing dose) subcutaneously or intramuscularly in compliance with aseptic rules.

Kittens are vaccinated from 8 weeks of age at intervals of 3 or 4 weeks: when vaccinating kittens at 3-week intervals, they are vaccinated three times at 8, 11 and 14 weeks, and when vaccinated at 4-week intervals, they are vaccinated twice at 8 and 12 weeks. Subsequent revaccinations of animals are carried out annually with one dose of the Felocel CVR vaccine - 1.0 ml.

Sterile syringes and needles are used to administer the vaccine. The surface of the skin at the injection site is treated with 70º alcohol.

As with other vaccines, an allergic reaction may develop after administration of the Felocel CVR vaccine. In this case, the animals are given appropriate symptomatic therapy. The immune response can be reduced in animals that have been exposed to stress (transportation, regrouping, etc.), animals in unfavorable environmental conditions, improper feeding, and also in violation of the instructions for use of the vaccine.

It is advisable to vaccinate all susceptible animals in the same room at the same time. The use of hyperimmune serums or immunosuppressants is prohibited for 2 weeks before and after vaccination.

PERSONAL PREVENTION MEASURES When carrying out vaccination, veterinary specialists must follow the general rules of asepsis, personal hygiene and safety precautions adopted when working with medicinal products for animals.

If the vaccine gets on the skin or mucous membranes, rinse them with plenty of water. After work, wash your hands thoroughly.

Contraindications and side effects

Contraindications to vaccination are age less than 12 weeks and the presence of any diseases in the animal. It is also not recommended to use Felocel for pets who have suffered serious illnesses and are in a weakened state.

There are usually no side effects with this vaccine. In the first minutes after the injection, anaphylactic shock may occur, which is combated through symptomatic therapy. First aid in such cases is provided by the veterinarian who performed the injection. Cats with a known tendency to allergic reactions are given an injection with a solution of suprastin before administering the drug.

Price

You can purchase the vaccine at a pharmacy, through online stores or directly at a veterinary clinic, where all the necessary manipulations will be carried out. The cheapest way is to make a purchase via the Internet, but in this case, during delivery in most cases you cannot be sure of the required temperature conditions, so in most cases the purchase is made at the pharmacy.

Owner reviews

Tatyana Zagidullina, Arkhangelsk:

“Initially, I consulted with a veterinarian about how to vaccinate the kitten. He advised me to use Felocel. We've been using it for several years now and everything is going well. Many people dissuaded me from both this remedy and vaccination in general. But when the neighbor’s cats began to get sick (we live in a private sector), and my cat remained healthy, I became convinced that it was not in vain that we chose a complex drug.

Soon we will have to go through this again with the kittens that our cat brought. The doctor warned that there may be an allergy to the vaccine, but so far we have not noticed anything like that, so there will be no long-term preparation. They’ll just get allergy shots right at the clinic before vaccination.”

Nikolay Stigeev, Moscow:

“We have been running a cattery for 12 years, so the use of preventive vaccines against chlamydia, rhinotracheitis and other infectious diseases is mandatory for us. We have been using Felocel for several years now, and it suits our cats in all respects. The only thing I couldn’t find out is whether it can be used during pregnancy. All veterinarians say different things: some assure that it is completely safe, others prohibit such procedures before birth. Just in case, I wait until the cat gives birth, so as not to harm the offspring and the pregnant woman herself, because she is in a weakened state. I vaccinate a few days after giving birth, because I was assured that the drug does not pass into breast milk.”
