Catozal for cats is a complex immunomodulatory drug based on vitamins and minerals. It is widely used in veterinary practice as a stimulating and restorative agent for cats of all ages. The drug improves metabolic processes and metabolism, promotes better absorption of proteins, carbohydrates and fats, and stimulates the immune system of cats. The drug is non-toxic if dosage recommendations are followed and does not accumulate in the body. A special feature of the drug catozal is its versatility - it can be used in cats, dogs, horses, and birds.
Description of the drug "Catozal"
The manufacturer of this vitamin and mineral complex is a well-known German pharmacological company. The drug is non-toxic and therefore completely safe. In veterinary medicine it is usually prescribed as an immunostimulant for kittens and adult cats.
Composition of the drug
The main active ingredients of "Katozal" are butaphosphan (10 g) and cyanocobalamin (0.005 g). Butanol, sodium hydroxide, and water for injection are added as excipients.
Release form
The drug is available in the form of a clear, deep pink solution. The volume of dark brown glass bottles is 100 ml. Each bottle is hermetically sealed with a rubber stopper, over which an aluminum cap is placed.
"Katozal" is packaged in a rectangular white cardboard box, decorated with two blue-green lines and the Bayer logo. Inside there is also a compact folded instruction manual.
Mechanism of action
The main task of “Katozal” is to stimulate metabolic processes in the body of animals. As a result of improved metabolism, cats' immunity is strengthened, their overall tone increases, and growth accelerates.
An organic phosphorus compound (butaphosphan) has a beneficial effect on the liver and bone tissue, activates the production of its own protein, and reduces cortisol levels during stress. Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) stimulates the process of hematopoiesis, strengthens the central nervous system, and increases the pain threshold. Methylparaben (E218), included as an auxiliary component, has an antibacterial effect and is also a powerful preservative.
Analogs
A medicine with a similar composition is Butazal-100 for cats. It also has a complex stimulating, tonic and immunomodulatory effect on the body of our smaller furry brothers. It is used to treat vitamin deficiency of B vitamins, to correct a cat’s condition during stress, pregnancy and feeding offspring, as a stimulant for the growth and development of young individuals and supportive for older pets. This drug is not widely used on the Russian pharmaceutical market.

Indications for use and treatment regimens
Since the drug is aimed at improving metabolism, its indications for use are quite broad.
To increase the body's resistance
As a rule, the immune system of a healthy cat is able to cope with diseases on its own. However, in order to speed up recovery and reduce the influence of external negative factors, veterinarians, along with targeted medications, prescribe Catozal. However, diagnoses can be completely different:
- lichen;
- viral enteritis;
- calcivirosis;
- feline distemper, etc.
With a lack of calcium and magnesium
A common cause of metabolic disorders is an unbalanced diet. Deficiency of beneficial minerals such as calcium and magnesium can lead to serious diseases:
- rickets;
- dermatitis;
- growth slowdown;
- pathologies of the musculoskeletal system;
- reproductive dysfunction, etc.
"Katozal" is often prescribed to kittens during the period when they are actively developing their bone skeleton and changing teeth.
During heavy physical activity
The use of a unique vitamin and mineral preparation gives excellent results when preparing a pet for exhibitions or competitions. Just one course of medication effectively helps:
- increase resistance to stress;
- strengthen the body;
- give the coat a healthy shine;
- increase tone;
- improve the condition of the skin.
To prevent postpartum complications
Childbirth is always stressful, which negatively affects the cat’s immune system. "Katozal" is prescribed not only to ensure that a weakened body recovers faster, but also for:
- facilitating the birth process;
- prevention of possible complications;
- treatment of endometritis, metritis;
- therapy for postpartum paresis, retained placenta.

Contraindications
According to the instructions, Katozal has only one contraindication for use - individual intolerance to the components of the drug. It can be given to cats of any age and pregnant cats, following the recommended dosage.
Veterinarians do not recommend using this medication if your pet has the following diseases:
- hypervitaminosis;
- predisposition to the appearance of neoplasms;
- kidney diseases;
- hypercalcemia;
- urolithiasis disease.
Before using Catozal, it is recommended to conduct a biochemical test of the pet’s blood, since the drug is harmful to cats with a high phosphorus content in the body. In this case, the veterinarian will adjust the dosage of the drug.
Instructions for use of the drug for the treatment of cats
Despite the harmlessness of "Katozal", its use must be approached responsibly and not exceed the permissible dosages specified in the instructions.
Intravenous administration
This is the most effective way to take the drug, since the active substances enter directly into the blood and spread quite quickly throughout the body. It is recommended to administer the drug in a hospital setting, since only a doctor has the necessary knowledge to reduce the risk of possible complications.
As a rule, intravenous administration of Catozal is carried out through a dropper. The drug is diluted with saline and the medicine is slowly delivered through a catheter into the animal’s circulatory system.
Intramuscular and subcutaneous administration
Intramuscular and subcutaneous injections can be done at home, after a veterinarian has made an accurate diagnosis. The dosage of the drug varies from 0.5 to 2.5 ml depending on the course of the disease. If the pathology is chronic, the dose is halved. If necessary, the course is repeated after 1-2 weeks.
The use of "Katozal" does not depend on the time of day, feeding or compatibility with other medications. The drug is an adjuvant and cannot in any way replace basic medications.
Any muscle is suitable for injections, but it is better to do them in the thigh - this is how the active substances are absorbed by the cat’s body the fastest.
Contraindications and side effects
The manufacturer claims that Catozal is an absolutely safe vitamin and mineral complex with no side effects. The only caution is an allergic reaction to any component of the composition. However, experienced veterinarians still advise abandoning the drug for the following diagnoses:
- renal pathologies;
- oncology;
- urolithiasis disease;
- excess vitamins;
- calcium surplus.
Dosage
Catozal is used subcutaneously, intramuscularly and intravenously as part of a dropper. The dose of the drug for a cat is calculated based on the weight of the pet: 0.5-2 ml per 5 kg of fur-bearing animal weight. So, let's look at how to give Catozal to a cat. The following schemes for using Catozal are common in veterinary practice :
- In order to prevent vitamin deficiency, before competitions and exhibitions, to improve the reproductive function of males and females - 1-2 times with an interval of 2-7 days.
- To prevent exacerbations of chronic diseases, correct the condition of the skin and coat of older animals, normalize appetite - 5-10 doses with a frequency of 1-3 days. The course for cats can be repeated after 1 month if necessary.
- As part of the complex treatment of infectious diseases, treatment of serious metabolic disorders, in the period after various types of surgical intervention, the cat is prescribed a course of daily injections. The duration is recommended by the attending veterinarian, based on the current condition of the animal.
Pros and cons of the drug
“Katozal” has been collecting positive reviews from veterinarians and cat owners for many years.
So, among the advantages of the medicine they note:
- no age restrictions;
- compatibility with other medications;
- preventive as well as therapeutic effects;
- does not contain toxic substances;
- does not cause side effects.
“Katozal” also has disadvantages, but they are not significant:
- lack of packaging in small volumes;
- the need to give injections;
- the price is above average.
Price
The cost of Katozal ranges from 300 to 800 rubles. The price may depend on the place of purchase and the manufacturer. You can purchase it at your nearest veterinary pharmacy or order it on a special website.
How not to buy a fake
Since Catozal is very popular in veterinary medicine, there are a huge number of different fakes that, at best, will not have the desired effect.
To prevent this from happening, you should follow some rules:
- Buy the drug only from reputable brands and in trusted places.
- Be sure to look at the seller for a product quality certificate.
- Please pay attention to the conditions and shelf life of products before purchasing.
- The original drug must be placed in a cardboard package.
- All original drugs have a clear, clearly visible imprint with an expiration date.
Safety precautions
Even when working with such a non-toxic product as Catozal, precautions must be taken:
- Wear medical gloves before administering the medicine;
- Dispose of empty bottles according to the instructions on the packaging;
- If the solution gets on your skin, wash the area well with soap;
- If liquid gets into your eyes, rinse them with plenty of running water;
- do not eat, drink or smoke while working with the drug;
- do not pour the product into food containers;
- Observe storage conditions.
It is strictly forbidden to use “Katozal” after the expiration date!
Storage conditions
In order for the medicine to retain its beneficial properties throughout its shelf life, the following storage conditions must be observed:
- It is necessary to strictly observe the temperature regime, since the vitamins contained in the drug are extremely sensitive to its violations. The minimum storage temperature is from 5° Celsius, the maximum is 25° Celsius. Freezing is acceptable, but not recommended (the bottles of medicine will simply burst), but overheating for a long time is strictly prohibited. In this case, cyanocobolamin will be destroyed.
- A prerequisite is storage in a place reliably protected from direct sunlight. UV radiation also has an extremely detrimental effect on the active components of the drug.
- In addition, the medicine must be stored so that it is completely isolated from the access of children and pets.
Reviews from veterinarians
“For as long as I’ve been working as a veterinarian, I have never met worthy analogues to “Katozal”. The drug has shown itself equally well as a preventive and therapeutic agent, especially in the treatment of complex pathologies. Plus, it has an undeniable advantage – compatibility with almost all drugs.”
Kirill, 36 years old, Murmansk
“As a specialist with quite a lot of experience, I can say that Catozal is an excellent assistant in the treatment of many diseases. Yes, its price is not small, but the result is worth it - animals taking this immunostimulant with the main course recovered twice as quickly.”
Olga, 50 years old, Kursk
"Katozal" has proven itself well in the Russian market, taking a leading position in the niche of immunostimulants. And although the price of the drug is above average, its effectiveness fully justifies the money spent.

Side effects
Since the product belongs to the class of low-hazard, side effects are extremely unlikely. The manufacturer himself reports that during the entire period of using the product, no such products were identified at all. But still, this only applies to cases of correct dosing. In case of an overdose, “side effects” can develop, and they are far from harmless:
- The animal becomes depressed, lethargic, apathetic, and refuses food.
- Possible pulmonary edema.
- Sometimes heart failure develops.
- Vein thrombosis.
- Allergic reactions.
Note that such serious phenomena can develop only with a very serious overdose and only with intravenous administration. This, however, does not negate the fact that vitamins are extremely toxic when used incorrectly.
Thus, we once again draw the attention of owners to one important circumstance: any medications, even if they look completely “harmless,” must be dosed and used exactly following the instructions!
If, due to an oversight, an overdose was allowed, there is no need to worry too much: the heart will not rise at once and there will be no pulmonary edema (unless a 100% solution of vitamin B12 is administered intravenously, of course). The injured animal needs to be given more drink and provided with complete rest. An excess of the drug will quickly be excreted in the urine (cyanocobolamine is a water-soluble vitamin). The course of treatment can be continued after this, but we would advise taking a week or two weeks break.
Self-administering injections
It happens that a person does not have the opportunity to take his pet to a veterinary clinic, so he needs to give the injection himself. The algorithm of actions depends on the injection method. Subcutaneous administration involves the following steps:
- It is necessary to securely secure the cat. You need to place the animal on either side.
- The skin is pulled back in the area of the shoulder blades.
- The needle should be inserted approximately 1.5 centimeters.
- The drug is squeezed out of the syringe as smoothly as possible.
- You can pull out the needle and massage it at the injection site.
Interaction with other drugs
Catozal does not replace antibacterial drugs, so they can be combined. If we are not talking about the prevention of a disease, but about the treatment of an existing illness, then Katozal can be used in conjunction with several types of medications:
- antibiotics;
- heart medications;
- glucose solutions, Ringer's or saline;
- painkillers;
- other symptomatic medications;
- anthelmintics;
- vaccines, etc.
Catozal can be combined with other drugs
Since Katozal contains a vitamin, and it improves metabolism, it is not recommended to use it together with other vitamin preparations. Otherwise, there may be hypervitaminosis.
