Lactobifadol for cats: instructions for use, compatibility with other drugs

Description of the drug Lactobifadol

The veterinary probiotic product Lactobifadolum is an innovative development of the Russian biotechnological enterprise Component. The drug is used for the treatment and prevention of diseases and digestive disorders in pets and farm animals. Lactobifadol, offered by manufacturers specifically for cats, is adapted taking into account their characteristics, both in composition and in release form.

Composition and release form

The composition of Lactobifadol was developed to solve the main task of this product - to restore the natural bacterial balance in the animal’s intestines. The drug contains the following components:

The concentration of live bacteria in Lactobifadol is quite high: one gram of the drug contains up to eighty million units of bifidobacteria and up to a million lactobacilli.

The formula of this veterinary probiotic is rich in substances valuable for the cat’s body; it includes:

  • prebiotic components;
  • vitamin complex;
  • set of amino acids;
  • organic acids;
  • micro- and macroelements.

The sorption technique for drying beneficial bacteria involves the use of a natural plant carrier. For cats and dogs, this is wheat flour; for horses and other large domestic animals, bran is usually used in this capacity. It is not advisable to buy large packages of probiotic to treat cats with it - the contents will spoil before you have time to use it, and in this case there will be no savings.

Lactobifadol powder is a bacterial culture dried with the addition of flour.

The contents of the sachet are a homogeneous cream or brownish powder. For cats, it is packaged in fifty gram bags - this is quite enough for a standard treatment course for one or even two animals.

To avoid accidentally getting a fake or low-quality product, when purchasing, you should carefully inspect the packaging of Lactobifadol for integrity and the presence of appropriate markings.

The product comes with detailed instructions on two pages. The box should also contain a special measuring spoon for the powder.

Operating principle

Regular intake of Lactobifadol allows you to populate the gastrointestinal tract with beneficial lacto- and bifidobacteria, so that this culture of microorganisms gradually displaces foreign pathogenic microflora from there. The result of leveling out bacterial manifestations will soon be the following positive changes:

  • appetite will improve;
  • the quality of food absorption will increase;
  • metabolism is normalized;
  • the immune system will be strengthened.

An additional sign of the pet’s general health is that its weight will return to normal - Lactobifadol will help cope with both excessive thinness and obesity, which is a big problem for some cats, especially sterilized ones.

Another pleasant bonus of using Lactobifadol is the noticeable condition of the skin and coat, so owners of show-class animals give this probiotic to their pets in the process of preparing them for an exhibition - according to many of my familiar breeders, this measure gives excellent results. From the observations of practitioners: Lactobifadol also significantly improves the quality of life and physical fitness in older cats.

After using Lactobifadol, only its lactocomponent remains to live and work in the cat’s body - lacto-, or acidophilus, bacteria predominantly constitute the microflora of the digestive tract of this animal. And bifidobacteria do not stay in the cat’s intestines for a long time - they do a lot of work there to normalize metabolism and other vital processes, and then are eliminated naturally.

Storage conditions

For probiotic preparations, it is especially important to strictly observe storage rules so as not to harm living bacteria and thereby reduce the effectiveness of the product.

When purchasing Lactobifadol, be sure to check the tightness of its packaging and do not open the vacuum bag until you start using the drug. Lactobifadol should be stored in a place with low humidity so that the powder does not become damp and its beneficial properties do not deteriorate. Dry bacterial culture should not be frozen, nor should it be heated too much. If you prefer to keep the probiotic in the refrigerator, place the package on the bottom shelf of the door.

The optimal temperature for it is room temperature, at which a sealed package with a probiotic can be stored for a year from the date of manufacture indicated on the box.

For ease of storage, you can pour Lactobifadol into a glass jar

To improve the safety of the drug, it is recommended that after opening the package, pour the powder into a glass jar that closes tightly - here it will have less chance of crumbling, becoming damp and losing its properties. And it’s more convenient to take the required amount of Lactobifadol from a jar than from a bag.

Composition and method of use of Prazitel (dosage, frequency of use, duration)

Despite the fact that the suspension and tablets contain the same active ingredients, they differ in composition. Prazitel is a potent drug, so it is used strictly for its intended purpose, following the veterinarian’s instructions for use. It is not recommended to make treatment decisions on your own, without first consulting a veterinarian.

In the form of a suspension

The suspension contains two anthelmintic active ingredients. 1 ml of liquid contains:

  • praziquantel – 3 mg;
  • pyrantel pamoate – 30 mg.

In the body of a sick animal, praziquantel acts in two directions. It increases the permeability of the parasite's cell walls to positively charged calcium ions, which causes the worm's muscles to sharply contract, causing paralysis and death. On the other hand, praziquantel promotes cell vacuolation and damages the epithelium of helminths, which makes them vulnerable to the cat's immune system.

Pyrantel pamoate has a similar mechanism of action. It causes neuromuscular blockade by stopping the transmission of impulses at neuromuscular junctions, paralyzing helminths. Parasites are eliminated from the gastrointestinal tract of a sick animal naturally (with feces).

There is a suspension for older cats (over 6 years old) - “Prazitel special”. In addition to the main components, it contains milk thistle extract - the flavonoid silybin. Thanks to this additive, the drug has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cytoprotective effects. It neutralizes the negative effects of the suspension’s active substances on the animal’s liver and kidneys. Thanks to the addition of milk thistle, “Prasitel special” does not have a toxic effect on the cat’s body, weakened due to age.

Prazitel does not require a long course of therapy; it is enough to take it once for the medicine to work and rid the sick cat of worms. To prevent infection, you can give the suspension once every 3 months.

It is recommended to give the suspension in the morning before meals. The liquid is poured into the animal's mouth. If the cat resists, it is convenient to use a dispenser syringe. According to the instructions for use, the dosage is calculated as follows: 1 ml per 1 kg of pet weight.

In tablet form

The manufacturing company produces 2 types of tablets - for adult animals and for kittens, which differ in the concentration of active ingredients. One Prazitel for cats tablet contains:

  • praziquantel – 20 mg;
  • pyrantel pamoate – 200 mg.

Prazitel for kittens tablet includes:

  • praziquantel – 5 mg;
  • pyrantel pamoate – 50 mg.

The tablets contain as excipients: starch, lactose, gelatin, croscarmellose sodium, calcium stearate. The amount of these components also varies depending on the purpose of the medicine.

The dose is calculated quite simply: 1 tablet per 1 kg of weight when taking the drug for kittens, and 1 tablet per 4 kg when treating adults. Apply, like a suspension, once. It is enough to give the medicine once for it to work and remove the parasites from the body.

Feeding a pill to a cat is not easy. Not every pet will agree to eat medicine in tablet form. Some people crush the crushed drug into food, mix it with minced meat or broth. However, picky animals detect the presence of impurities by smell and refuse to eat. The easiest way is to put the tablet on the root of the tongue, causing a swallowing reflex. The cat will not be able to spit out the drug, he will have to swallow it.

Indications for use

A cat, like a person, is negatively affected by aggressive environmental factors:

  • infections;
  • stress;
  • chemical additives in food;
  • strong medications;
  • bad ecology.

The beneficial microflora of the gastrointestinal tract is most vulnerable to such effects. And systemic disturbances in its balance are fraught with serious digestive disorders and suppression of the immune system. If you ignore the symptoms of dysbiosis in a cat, this can become an impetus for the development of many dangerous diseases.

Proper use of Lactobifadol contributes not only to the effective treatment of dysbacteriosis of various origins, but also to their effective prevention, because it is always better to prevent problems of this kind in advance than to take a long and difficult time to get rid of them.

Lactobifadol has proven itself not only in the case of dysbiosis, but also in other cat health problems:

  • diseases of the digestive system;
  • kidney disease;
  • disorders of the normal functioning of the pancreas and liver;
  • sluggish metabolism;
  • disturbances in bacterial balance after taking strong antibiotics.

Veterinarians often prescribe this probiotic for full recovery after antiparasitic treatment of animals of any age, as well as to maintain the general physical condition of the cat during the periods of bearing and feeding kittens.

How does dysbiosis manifest in cats?

Signs of dysbiosis do not appear rapidly in a cat, but gradually, but an attentive owner should be alert to any of the following symptoms:

  • digestive disorders are observed - constipation may alternate with diarrhea;
  • the excrement has an unusual color (too light or too dark) and smell (sourish or putrid);
  • there is an unpleasant odor from the mouth;
  • nausea and vomiting occurs;
  • the animal becomes lethargic and eats poorly.

Do not self-medicate - only a doctor can make an accurate diagnosis

The sooner dysbiosis is diagnosed, the sooner the cat’s treatment will give positive results. Accurate diagnosis is carried out by a veterinarian based on examination of the animal, complex tests and ultrasound examination.

pharmachologic effect

When taking the drug, beneficial microorganisms begin to multiply rapidly, releasing acid and a number of specific components that prevent the development of pathogenic microflora, which gradually stops its development and dies. The intestines are populated with beneficial flora.

The balance of intestinal microflora is very important not only for humans, but also for dogs, since it increases resistance to viral diseases and strengthens the immune system; the condition of the skin and coat improves; metabolism is normalized; bones and cartilage tissue are strengthened.

As a result of the use of Lactobifadol, digestion is normalized, vitamins and mineral components are better absorbed.

Due to its healing properties, Lactobifadol is an excellent means of preventing dysbiosis and obesity. Its use promotes normal growth and development of animals.

Instructions for use of Lactobifadol for cats

Usually, the use of Lactobifadol does not pose any problems - the powder does not have a pronounced smell or taste, which tailed patients might not like. Cats willingly eat their regular food with the addition of Lactobifadol and themselves lick the drug diluted with milk from a spoon. But to reliably adhere to the dosage, owners usually pour the probiotic into their pets’ mouths from a syringe - of course, after first removing the needle from it.

The easiest way to give Lactobifadol to your pet is with food.

Selection of dosage

It is better to take the daily dose of Lactobifadol not in one, but in two doses - divided in half and given to the animal in two doses. It is calculated according to a simple scheme: 0.2 grams of probiotic for every kilogram of the cat’s weight. The powder can be diluted in a small amount of milk or water or added to wet food - ready-made or natural.

You can accurately measure the amount of product required for a single dose only on electronic scales. But since not every owner has them, you have to select the dosage by eye, based on the volume of an ordinary teaspoon that holds nine grams of bulk probiotic.

A teaspoon contains 9 grams of Lactobifadol

If a few grains of powder are enough for a small kitten, then the daily dose for an adult cat can be about a quarter of a teaspoon. In any case, the daily dosage should not exceed half a spoon - even for the largest cats.

Please note: in the first two to three days of using Lactobifadol, the animal’s stool consistency may change - this is normal; very soon the digestive functions will completely return to normal. To avoid this phenomenon, it may be advisable to give halved doses of the drug at the beginning of treatment.

For chronic diseases or complicated pathologies of the stomach, intestines, kidneys, liver and pancreas, it is necessary to start using Lactobifadol with small doses and gradually, over two weeks, increase the daily dosage to the standard one.

Treatment regimen

The regimen and duration of therapy with Lactobifadol is selected by the doctor individually - it depends on the diagnosis and the condition of the particular animal. If significant restoration and maintenance of normal mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract is necessary, then long-term and systemic use of Lactobifadol may be required - a course lasting from two months to six months. Treatment is carried out until a stable positive result is obtained.

Start using Lactobifadol with small doses

For preventive purposes, it is enough to take Lactobifadol for two weeks to several months. But to maintain the physical fitness of older animals, the drug can be prescribed to them for life.

Precautionary measures

It is believed that an overdose of Lactobifadol is not dangerous for a cat. But this does not mean at all that the drug can be used indiscriminately, without adhering to the regimens and dosages recommended by the veterinarian - this approach only leads to a decrease in the effectiveness of treatment.

An overdose of Lactobifadol is not dangerous, but undesirable

It is important to know: when exposed to a hot environment, the bacterial culture of Lactobifadol dies, and the use of the product loses all meaning. Therefore, the probiotic can be diluted with liquids only at room temperature or one or two degrees hotter. Cat food should not be hot either - if you mix powder into it.

You should not prepare a large portion of the probiotic for future use - dissolve the required amount of powder before each use. It is not difficult, and the benefits from such treatment will be much greater.

What is the dosage of Bifidumbacterin for cats? Special probiotic Bifidumbacterin for cats

Remedies for digestive disorders for pets should always be on hand for every owner.
It is best to choose “Bifidumbacterin for cats” (its dosage is indicated in the instructions). "Bifidumbacterin" for cats is a very effective and efficient remedy. Digestive disorders in cats and cats occur quite often. This is especially true for animals that regularly go outside and can “feast” on something stale and forbidden. Therefore, their owners should stock up on funds in advance that will allow them to quickly and easily get rid of such problems.

The drug “Bifidumbacterin” is very popular today. This is an effective and efficient probiotic that normalizes the intestinal microflora and generally improves the functioning of the entire gastrointestinal tract. It helps to cope not only with temporary digestive upset, but also with more serious regular problems. It is especially important to give it to an animal with chronic constipation, disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as allergies (to avoid possible digestive disorders).

Experts also recommend using this medicine in cases where a cat is undergoing antibiotic treatment, often more than ARVI, is exposed to severe stress, etc. In this case, the drug is used as a prophylactic agent that helps to avoid many serious health problems for your pet.

“Bifidumbacterin” today can be found on sale in a variety of dosage forms. The buyer will be able to choose the most optimal and convenient for himself. These are suppositories, tablets or special powder in miniature bottles. In general, you can get the hang of giving an animal medicine in any of the listed forms. But it's convenient that there is such a large selection for every pet owner.

The composition of this preparation includes live active bifidobacteria dried in a special way. It was thanks to them that the medicine turned out to be not only effective, but also safe. It does not contain any harmful chemicals.

It is also important to note that the remedy under discussion is allowed to be given even to small kittens. The main thing is that the babies are older than two weeks of age

It is especially important to use this medicine for kittens with diarrhea. For example, a problem often arises when switching from breast milk to regular food. Especially if it was done too abruptly. “Bifidumbacterin” will help improve digestion and quickly adapt to a new type of diet without any consequences for the body.

The easiest way to use the product is in powder form. One bottle of medicine is one serving for adult animals. Before using it, you will need to pour a small amount of boiled water (preferably at room temperature) into a cup. About 5 teaspoons of liquid will be enough. Next, the bottle with the medicinal drug is carefully opened, a couple of drops of water are added to it, the container is shaken and poured into a previously prepared cup. The main thing is that when shaking the medicine dissolves.

Next, the product is completely ready for use by animals.

It is very important that the cat consumes it as quickly as possible. It is strictly prohibited to store the drug in diluted form for more than 5 hours.

After this time, you just have to pour it out.

You will need to give the finished medicine to your cat using a pipette. You can simply pour it into the animal's mouth. But, as a rule, such an extreme measure is required only for kittens. Adult animals lap up the medicinal liquid themselves. The composition of the ingredients is selected in such a way that almost all representatives of the cat family like the taste of the drug.

If the kitten is under 6 months old, then it will be enough for him to take half the indicated portion. Then the medicine from the bottle can simply be divided into two doses. During the treatment period, it is recommended to feed the animal minimally and give it exclusively dairy products.

If you give the drug to an animal 2-3 times a day (for example, in the morning at lunch and in the evening), then a complete cure for indigestion can be achieved in approximately one day. Sometimes this period has to be increased to two or three days.

Important nuances of using Lactobifadol

Establishing a stable internal balance of microflora is very important for every animal, and the correct use of probiotics significantly helps in achieving this result. In order for the effectiveness of Lactobifadol to be maximized, some nuances of treatment with this drug should be taken into account.

Contraindications and side effects

Clinical studies have not revealed any contraindications or side effects from the use of the probiotic Lactobifadol. The only limitation for its use may be increased individual susceptibility to the components of the drug.

In some cases, at the initial stages, while the animal’s body gets used to the active components of the drug, the use of Lactobifadol may be accompanied by the following phenomena:

  • frequent urge to go to the toilet;
  • loose stools;
  • loss of appetite;
  • increased flatulence.

Features of use in kittens and pregnant cats

During the critical period of pregnancy, Lactobifadol is very useful for cats - it optimizes metabolic processes and has a beneficial effect on the proper development of embryos. At the moment of their birth, kittens, passing through the birth canal of their mother, receive from her the rudiments of healthy microflora. The drug improves lactation and the general condition of a nursing cat, and through its milk has a positive effect on babies.

Veterinarians strongly recommend taking a course of Lactobifadol for very young kittens during the neonatal period - from birth to one month of age. The probiotic preparation helps weak babies get stronger faster and promotes the high-quality formation of a complete microflora in the kitten’s digestive system, which is an extremely important condition for its proper development and future health.

Interaction with other drugs

The components of Lactobifadol are resistant to antibiotics, so this probiotic can and should be used in parallel with them, restoring the microflora from antibiotic destruction. Lactobifadol is also compatible with coccidiostats and anthelmintic drugs - it is used either simultaneously or after completion of taking these drugs.

Advantages and disadvantages of Lactobifadol

The undoubted advantage of Lactobifadol is its low price with decent quality of the product. The cost of a probiotic in veterinary pharmacies is a little over one hundred rubles - this is quite inexpensive, considering the cost-effectiveness of the drug. A fifty-gram package of Lactobifadol is enough for a treatment course for one or even two adult cats. Human probiotics are several times more expensive with comparable effectiveness.

One packet of Lactobifadol is enough to improve the health of two cats

The advantages of Lactobifadol include its absolutely natural composition, which determines the safety of the product even for newborn kittens and pregnant cats. The drug has virtually no side effects and has no contraindications; it is recommended for use on animals of any age.

Lactobifadol combines well when used with other medications, including antibiotics. It has a neutral taste and odor, so even the most sensitive cats can easily consume it.

Against the background of such significant advantages, the disadvantages of Lactobifadol are insignificant. These include, in particular, the inconvenience of packaging and some difficulties in determining the exact single dose of the drug.

Analogues of the drug

Neither human nor veterinary pharmacies have complete analogues of Lactobifadol - this drug is unique in its composition. However, many other probiotics can be used for the same indications, which makes it possible, with the help of a veterinarian, to select the product that is best suited for your pet.
