Use of the veterinary drug Noroclav

COMPOSITION AND FORM OF RELEASE

Noroclav tablets (International nonproprietary name: amoxicillin trihydrate + potassium clavulanate) as active ingredients in one tablet contain 400 mg of amoxicillin trihydrate and 100 mg of potassium clavulanate, as well as auxiliary components: 0.7% magnesium stearate, 0.06% cormosin, 2 % sodium glycollate, 2.5% copovidone K 24-36 and microcrystalline cellulose up to 100%. In appearance, it is a pink, biconvex tablet with a dividing groove for oral use. Packaged in 5 tablets in a blister, packed in 10 pieces in a cardboard box.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Noroclav tablets are a combined antibacterial drug with a wide spectrum of bactericidal activity against most gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, including Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Klebsiella spp., Bacillus anthracis, Actinomyces bovis, Campylobacter spp., Clostridium spp., Corynebacterium spp. , Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Salmonella spp, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Fusabacterium necrophorum, including strains that produce β-lactamase (an enzyme that causes the destruction of the antibiotic molecule before it has an effect on the bacterial cell).

Amoxicillin trihydrate is a semisynthetic antibiotic of the penicillin series, the mechanism of action of which is to disrupt the synthesis of mucopeptide in the cell wall of microorganisms by inhibiting the enzymes transpeptidase and carboxypeptidase, which leads to disruption of the osmotic balance and destruction of the bacterial cell. Potassium clavulanate, by inhibiting β-lactamase, protects amoxicillin from the action of the enzyme, which allows the antibiotic to have a rapid bactericidal effect and significantly expands the spectrum of its activity against microbes.

The drug is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and penetrates into most organs and tissues of the animal, remaining in a therapeutic concentration for up to 12 hours after oral administration, and is excreted from the body mainly in the urine. Based on the degree of impact on the body, Noroclav tablets are classified as moderately hazardous substances.

INDICATIONS

Prescribed to dogs for the treatment of diseases of the respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system, skin (including pyoderma) and other primary and secondary infections of bacterial etiology, the pathogens of which are sensitive to amoxicillin.

DOSES AND METHOD OF APPLICATION

Noroclav tablets are administered orally to animals forcibly or mixed with food twice a day at the rate of 12.5 mg of active ingredients per 1 kg of animal weight. The duration of the course of treatment is 5 – 7 days. Doses of the drug depending on the weight of the animal are presented in the table:

Animal weight, kgNumber of tablets
19 – 251/2
35-501
65-802
More than 80 kg3

For animals weighing less than 18 kg, you should use Noroclav tablets containing 50 mg of active ingredients. In severe cases of animal disease, especially with respiratory infections, a single dose of Noroclav tablets should be increased to 25 mg of active ingredients per 1 kg of animal weight. For chronic and intractable diseases, the duration of the course of treatment depends on the condition of the animal and is determined by the attending veterinarian: for respiratory diseases, the course of treatment for the animal can be extended to 10 days, for diseases of the skin and genitourinary system - up to 10 - 28 days. Avoid skipping the next dose of the drug, as this may lead to a decrease in therapeutic effectiveness. If one dose is missed, use of the drug is resumed at the same dose.

SIDE EFFECTS

In rare cases, with increased individual sensitivity to the drug, the animal may experience allergic reactions. In these cases, the animal is prescribed desensitizing therapy.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Price

You can buy Noroklav for cats at any pharmacy, not only at the veterinary; no doctor's appointment required. The price is 200-250 rubles for tablets (100 pieces) and 1200 rubles for an injection of 50 ml.

When using Noroclav for cats, you must follow the doctor’s instructions, however, in this case, you must also follow the instructions for the drug.

Bacteria attack the cat's body from all sides. With reduced resistance, when the immune system is unable to overcome the microorganism, antibiotics provide an invaluable service. Complex, broad-spectrum medications are increasingly becoming a permanent fixture in the cat owner’s veterinary medicine cabinet.

Noroclav (tablets and injection solution) is produced in the UK.

Noroclav is a combined antibiotic.

Its composition for tablet form includes:

  • Amoxicillin trihydrate. The main action. Absorption of amoxicillin is 93%. The active principle reaches its maximum concentration in the body within the first hour after entering the animal’s gastrointestinal tract. Once absorbed, the peaks are concentrated in the plasma, bronchial walls and secretions, alveoli, mucous membranes of the stomach and intestines, epidermal tissues, intraperitoneal fluid, bile ducts and bladder, renal tissues and urine. In the first 1.5 hours after administration, 50% of the therapeutic base leaves the cat’s body. Mainly (70%) with urine in an unchanged state. Another 20% is decomposed into metabolites and excreted by the liver. Some part leaves the animal's body with milk when feeding kittens.
  • Clavulanic acid (potassium clavlanate). Belongs to the pharmacological group of enzymes and antienzymes. It independently exhibits antimicrobial properties, thereby enhancing the effect of the complex drug.
  • Magnesium stearate. Filler.
  • Kormozin. Food additive, synthetic coloring. Thanks to it, the tablet has a unique color.
  • Sodium glycolate. A substance that can quickly absorb liquid, which promotes the disintegration of components. Thanks to this property, pressing of the dosage form takes place with little effort.
  • Copovidon. A substance used to granulate tablet components.
  • microcrystalline cellulose. Filler, adsorbent.

The injection solution consists of:

  • amoxicillin trihydrate;
  • potassium clavunate;
  • butylhydroscanisole;
  • butylated hydroxytoluene;
  • propylene glycol.

The drugs are stored in the manufacturer's packaging. The storage location should be:

  • clean;
  • dry;
  • protected from exposure to sunlight;
  • with a temperature ranging from 0 to 25 ᵒС;
  • inaccessible to animals and children;
  • separate from food and animal feed.

The period for which the drug can be used is determined by the manufacturer. From the date of manufacture no more than 2 years. When opening a bottle of suspension, no more than 28 days.

The manufacturer took care of the convenience of the owner and released the drug in two forms:

Tablet preparation

  • 50 mg tablet (40 mg amoxicillin, 10 mg potassium clavulanate);
  • 250 mg tablet (200 mg amoxicillin, 50 mg potassium clavulanate);
  • 500 mg tablet (400 mg amoxicillin, 100 mg potassium clavulanate).

Packing is carried out in blisters of 5 and 10 pieces or bottles of polymer material of 100 tablets.

The tablet shape is biconvex. For ease of division when dosing, it is divided by a groove. The color of the tablet is pink.

Blisters are folded in cardboard packaging. The marking is applied to the blister and packaging in Russian. It is stated:

  • Name
  • manufacturer;
  • address;
  • appointment;
  • method of application;
  • number of tablets or solution;
  • series;
  • date of manufacture;
  • storage period and conditions.

Injection

The suspension is packaged in sterile bottles with a capacity of 10, 20, 50 and 100 ml. The color of the drug is light yellow or creamy.

Vials are placed in labeled boxes.

1 ml of suspension contains:

  • amoxicillin trihydrate - 140 mg;
  • clavulanic acid - 35 mg;
  • excipients for the formation of a suspension.

Both tablets and suspension are used for the following indications:

  • diseases of the respiratory system, both upper and lower respiratory tracts (bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchopneumonia);
  • organs of the ear and nasal cavities and larynx (otitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis);
  • pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract (colitis, enteritis, enterocolitis);
  • diseases of the urinary and reproductive systems (nephritis, pyelitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, endometritis, urethritis, mastitis);
  • wound infections of the skin and soft tissues (cellulitis, abscess, umbilical infections, pyoderma);
  • inflammation of articular surfaces;
  • diseases caused by Listeria, Pasteurella, Clostridia, Escherichia coli, Leptospira, Borellia, Salmonella;
  • sepsis;
  • post-surgical inflammatory processes.

Each package of the drug is accompanied by detailed instructions. Following her instructions and the recommendations of the attending physician, the following is selected:

  • procedure for using tablets;
  • dose;
  • frequency of administration or feeding of the tablet;
  • side effects and contraindications to the use of the drug are taken into account.

After reading the instructions on pharmaceutical properties, it should be noted that the best method of use would be to administer the drug after testing the material for sensitivity to the antibiotic in the laboratory, using the culture method.

The tablets are given to the cat by force, placed on the root of the tongue or mixed with its favorite food.

To determine the dose, the animal is weighed. Next, the dosage is calculated according to live weight at the rate of 12.5 mg per kilogram of weight.

The tablet should be given in the morning and evening. The duration of administration is determined by clinical signs, after the disappearance of which, the course continues for 1-2 days. The course of treatment should not exceed 7 days, for severe infectious diseases 10 days.

In case of pathology of the genitourinary system, the period of administration of the drug can be increased to 25 days. The course of treatment is determined by a veterinarian based on clinical and laboratory tests.

The liquid dosage form is dosed at 0.5 ml per 10 kg of cat weight. If the animal is 5 kg, then the drug is administered in a dose of 0.25 ml.

The suspension is administered subcutaneously, 1 time per day for 5-7 days, depending on the course of the disease. Before administration, the bottle is thoroughly shaken by repeated inversion. After drawing it into a dry sterile syringe, hold it in your clenched palm for several minutes, this makes it possible to increase the temperature of the thick solution.

The manufacturer claims that the majority of patients tolerate the course of treatment without complications.

In rare cases, when the body is overly sensitive to beta-lactam drugs, mild allergic manifestations are possible, which quickly disappear.

If such cases occur, then Noroclav therapy is stopped and symptomatic treatment is prescribed.

The drug has no contraindications, but caution should be exercised when:

  • cat pregnancy;
  • history of bleeding;
  • renal failure

Noroclav belongs to the group of antibacterial agents for the treatment of cats and dogs. Manufacturer - UK. Release form for cats: tablets.

The main composition of the drug:

  • amoxicillin trihydrate;
  • clavulanic acid.

Auxiliary components:

  • sodium glycolate;
  • cellulose;
  • magnesium stearate;
  • copovidone;
  • Cormosin.

Externally, Noroclav tablets have a convex shape on both sides with a dividing strip. Pink colour. Packed in blisters and cardboard boxes. The packaging is labeled “for veterinary use.”

The drug contains two main components:

  • Amoxicillin.
  • Clavulanic acid.

The first is a fairly old penicillin antibiotic. Clavulanic acid does not have any antibacterial effect, but it can enhance and prolong (prolong) the effect of the antibiotic. This combination is a long-known “tandem”, successfully used both in veterinary medicine and in medicine.

Contains medications and auxiliary compounds:

  • Magnesium stearate.
  • Sodium glycolate.
  • Kormozin.
  • Cellulose monohydrate, crystallized.
  • Copovidon.

These substances also do not have any pronounced antibacterial effect, but they improve and prolong the effect of the main components, accelerate their absorption and the degree of biological digestibility.

Currently, there are two forms of release of this antibiotic:

  • Tablet form (tablets). This type is also divided into three subcategories: Noroklav-50 and Noroklav-250. They contain, respectively, 40/10 mg, 200/50 mg and 400/100 mg of amoxicillin and clavulan. By the way, you need to remember this, since tablets with a higher concentration of active ingredients can easily poison your pet if you initially calculate the dosage according to Noroclav-50!
  • Suspension. It contains 140/35 mg of amoxicillin and clavulan, respectively.

The tablets are packaged in blisters made of plastic and food foil (5 or 10 pieces each), the suspension is poured into glass bottles. There is also the option of packing tablets in polymer bottles of 100 pills each. The concentration of the active substance, release date and expiration date must be indicated on the packaging.

Indications for use

Noroclav is an antibiotic with an extended bactericidal effect. The drug shows results in eliminating both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.

Important! Clavulanic acid complements the effectiveness. It acts against bacteria that produce enzymes to combat penicillins.

Indications for use:

  • inflammatory processes in the digestive tract (enteritis, colitis, enterocolitis);
  • colds, respiratory diseases, accompanied by the development of inflammation in the respiratory tract;
  • infectious processes in the organs of the urinary and reproductive systems (cystitis, endometritis, pyelonephritis);
  • damage to the skin, damage to the mucous membranes.

Amoxicillin has a detrimental effect on the cell wall, which accelerates the death of bacteria. Clavulanic acid is a substance that provides protection against re-infection.

Pharmacological properties

Noroclav is extremely effective against most anaerobic and aerobic microorganisms, as well as strains that produce specific enzymes that interfere with the action of the antibiotic. This function is performed by clavulanic acid, which protects amoxicillin from premature destruction, which allows the therapeutic effect of the drug to be achieved more quickly.

Noroclav for cats

The animal's condition improves after the first dose of the drug.

Amoxicillin disrupts the production of mucopeptides that make up the bacterial cell wall. And this, in turn, leads to a violation of the integrity of the cell of the harmful microorganism.

Important! Noroclav belongs to hazard class 3, i.e. it is moderately dangerous to the body. If the prescribed dosage is observed, it causes almost no side effects.

The active ingredients of Noroklav are quickly absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract, spreading throughout all tissues and organs of the cat. The drug begins to work within 1-2 hours after administration, and its effect lasts for 12 hours. After which, Noroklav is excreted from the body along with urine.

Instructions for use of Noroklav

Following the recommendations for administering the product or performing injections will relieve your pet of side effects and ensure maximum effectiveness of the drug.

Instructions for use of Noroklav depend on the prescribed form of the medicine:

  • Pills. The daily dosage is divided into 2 doses. The medicine is placed under the dog's tongue or mixed with food. The duration of treatment is 5–7 days, sometimes the course is increased to 10 days. For infections caused by different bacteria, an additional dose is given.
  • Suspension. The injection is performed under the skin. Before drawing the solution into the syringe, the bottle is inverted several times to dilute the sediment. After the injection, the injection site is rubbed. The course duration is 3–5 days with the medication administered once a day.

After the procedures, it is recommended to wash your hands thoroughly with soapy water and warm water. If the solution gets into the eyes, skin or mucous membranes, urgent rinsing is required.

Features of therapy

For a speedy recovery of the animal, the dose of antibiotic should be calculated taking into account its weight.
In the process of scientific research under the guidance of Doctor of Veterinary Sciences E. G. Sivonenko, it was possible to establish the optimal dosages of the antibiotic “Noroklav” for cats. It has been found that to achieve an effective dose, the pet's weight must be taken into account. Typically, for every kilogram of an animal there is 12.5 mg of antibiotic, 2 times a day. The duration of the treatment course is 5-7 days. The tablets can be mixed with food or force-fed to the purr.

If the disease is severe, it is allowed to increase the dose of Noroclav to 25 mg/kg. It is important not to skip taking the medication, as this will reduce its therapeutic effect. Owners need to take precautions and wash their hands with soap every time after handling. You should not drink, smoke or eat food while treating purrs.

Dosage of the drug

The daily norm of Noroklav in tablets is calculated according to the scheme - 12.5 mg of active ingredients per 1 kg of animal weight.

Dosage based on dog weight:

  • up to 1 kg – a quarter of a tablet;
  • from 1 to 2 kg – half a tablet;
  • 3–5 kg – 1 piece;
  • from 6 to 9 kg – 2 pieces;
  • 10–13 kg – 3 tablets;
  • from 14 to 18 kg – 4 tablets.

The dosage of the drug in the form of a suspension is calculated according to the scheme - 1 ml per 20 kg of animal weight. This corresponds to a single administration of 8.75 mg of active ingredients per 1 kg of dog weight.

Side effects

Noroclav is a low-toxic, low-hazard antibacterial drug. Dogs rarely show side effects, so the medicine is suitable for use in pets of any size, breed and age.

Important! Typical signs of an allergic reaction: swelling at the injection site, itching, redness. Digestive disorders are less common.

Side effects go away on their own after completing the course or discontinuing the drug. If the dosage and recommendations for use are followed, the dog tolerates the treatment without negative consequences.

Reviews from dog breeders

Dog owners note that their pets tolerate Noroclav well.
Gennady, Petrozavodsk. My boxer is prescribed Noroclav regularly due to chronic respiratory infections. The course is short, no more than a week. I've already gotten the hang of feeding the pills without masking them with food. The dog tolerates the treatment well, there is no diarrhea (but he reacted to other antibiotics with a terrible stomach upset). This means that the medicine is suitable, I will continue to use it.

Lyudmila, Tver. My lap dog was diagnosed with pyometra. I was afraid that they would suggest surgery, but after a detailed examination the doctor prescribed Noroklav for dogs. There are different tablets, I, naturally, chose the smallest packaging. At first I tried to give it by hand, but it turned out that it was easier to mix crushed tablets into balls with minced meat. We were treated for 3 weeks and were constantly monitored by a veterinarian. The result was pleasing, the dog was healthy, and there were no side effects or complications.

Maria, Ufa. Our Sheltie suffered from gum inflammation (some kind of hereditary pathology) for a long time. And then I got hurt with a bone and a huge abscess formed. The doctor prescribed Noroklav injections. The injections were subcutaneous, so I did them myself. After the second injection, the swelling subsided and the dog began to eat on its own. Excellent tool, I liked it. And there was no bad reaction. I don't like antibiotics too much, but this one definitely worked.

Contraindications

Any medicine, including antibiotics, has contraindications or restrictions on use.

List for Noroklav:

  • hypersensitivity to active substances, additional components;
  • the last weeks of pregnancy, the period after childbirth - the active substances are excreted in milk.

Noroclav should not be given together with antimicrobial drugs of other groups and penicillins.

Dogs are not given intravenous or intramuscular injections. Mixing medications in one syringe is not allowed.
