Ringer-Locke solution. Instructions for use for humans

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Ringer-Locke solution is capable of regulating the water-salt and acid-base balance in the human and animal body. The product is closest to the natural composition of blood plasma . The drug inhibits the processes of aggregation blood elements and improves tissue perfusion .

Electrolytes thin the blood, and glucose prevents the development of hypoglycemia .

Very quickly after injection, the drug is distributed to organs and tissues.

Composition, release form

Ringer-Locke solution (the price of the product is affordable for most patients) is a clear, colorless liquid without a specific aroma. It is packaged in special dark glass bottles of 200 ml. You can also find bottles of 100, 250, 400 ml. In each case, the patient can purchase the volume he needs.

The product contains several active ingredients, which provide the main effect on the body:

  • Sodium chloride in quantity.
  • Potassium chloride.
  • Calcium chloride.
  • Glucose in small quantities.

The solution contains prepared water for injection as an auxiliary ingredient.

Indications for use

The drug is prescribed:

  • during dehydration and severe intoxication of the body due to dysentery , food poisoning, diarrhea and vomiting, El Tor cholera ;
  • if dehydration occurs due to circulatory disorders, severe blood loss;
  • for burns, frostbite, shock ;
  • if inflammation of the peritoneum develops - peritonitis .

Ringer-Locke solution is also used for animals with similar symptoms, albeit in a different dosage.

Contraindications and side effects

Ringer-Locke solution is not used when the patient experiences individual negative reactions. The price of the medicine allows you to complete a full course if necessary, but if complications occur, you should abandon therapy.

Contraindications include the following conditions:

  • Edema of the lungs or brain. With such a violation, the drug can provoke the progression of symptoms.
  • Severe form of heart failure. The medication increases the volume of circulating blood, so patients with this disorder may experience negative symptoms.
  • Acidosis of varying severity.
  • Increased levels of calcium, potassium and sodium in the blood. The presence of such components in the solution may aggravate kidney symptoms.
  • Acute or chronic renal failure, accompanied by anuria or oliguria. The use of medication often provokes a deterioration in the general condition and the appearance of systemic disorders.
  • Acute internal bleeding. After eliminating acute manifestations, the solution can be used to alleviate the condition.

Ringer-Locke solution. Instructions for use for humans

Patients may have individual contraindications, which are determined during a diagnostic examination. The official instructions indicate that during pregnancy and lactation the medication can be used according to indications and under the supervision of a doctor.

The solution is also prescribed to children without restrictions, but the doctor monitors the condition, and the dosage is determined individually depending on age and body weight.

Ringer-Locke solution (the price of the product may vary depending on the volume of the bottle) rarely provokes complications from internal organs. Despite this, patients sometimes report individual allergic reactions. They manifest themselves with standard symptoms in the form of a rash on the body, severe itching and burning.

The rash can spread to large areas of the skin, causing skin irritation. Sometimes allergies provoke swelling of the mucous membranes of the throat, mouth, and eyes. Patients report watery eyes and temporary blurred vision.

Symptoms may worsen, leading to suffocation. Such disorders threaten not only the health, but also the life of the patient. If they appear, you should immediately tell your doctor. Ignoring symptoms or using any remedies on your own is strongly discouraged.

In case of an acute allergic reaction, the patient requires complex treatment using medications from different groups. Long-term treatment with the solution provokes an increase in the level of calcium, sodium and potassium in the blood, which negatively affects the functioning of the central nervous system and internal organs.

Interaction

Caution should be used when combining the medicine with certain drugs, such as NSAIDs , estrogens or anabolic steroids .

When combined with cardiac glycosides, the load on the cardiovascular system increases.

Concomitant use with diuretics , angiotensin-converting enzyme or potassium supplements can lead to hyperkalemia .

Instructions for use

The drug is used only for parenteral administration after a preliminary examination by a doctor. Depending on the disease, the treatment regimen may differ. For each patient, the dosage and duration of use is determined individually.

DiseaseScheme for using the solution
State of shockIn case of such a violation, the patient is administered 20 ml of solution per day. The infusion is carried out slowly using a dropper, which avoids the development of negative reactions during manipulation. The duration of the therapeutic course does not exceed 5 days. Usually this time is enough to obtain a pronounced therapeutic effect. In severe cases, when the patient's condition is critical, the solution can be administered intravenously in a slow stream using a syringe. Such manipulations are usually carried out once, after which the solution is administered in the standard way using a dropper.
Dehydration due to infectious diseasesFor such disorders, the patient usually needs 3 days of intensive therapy using the solution. The drug is administered intravenously slowly to provide a mild effect on the body. The daily norm for a patient is 200-400 ml. During treatment, the doctor monitors the patient’s condition and, if necessary, adjusts the dose and duration of the course.
Poisoning of the bodyAn important point in the treatment of poisoning in patients is the administration of drugs in a timely manner. Otherwise, the therapeutic effect occurs later, complications develop more often. On the first day after the onset of symptoms, the patient is prescribed 200 ml of solution, administered slowly using a dropper. If there is no effect, the dose is increased to 400 ml per day. Sometimes it is necessary to prescribe an increased dosage, which reaches 1000 ml, but the doctor makes the decision after examining the patient. The duration of the treatment course usually does not exceed 5 days.
Burns and frostbiteThe remedy for severe forms of burns and frostbite is prescribed in courses of 5-7 days with daily administration of 400-800 ml of solution according to the standard regimen. If the patient's weight exceeds 100 kg, the daily dosage can be increased to 1000-1200 ml, which allows achieving a more pronounced result. When infusing drips, the speed should not exceed 60 drops/min.

When prescribing medication for children, the patient's weight is usually taken into account. The daily dosage is no more than 10 ml per 1 kg of weight. Children under 2 years of age are prescribed no more than 5 ml per 1 kg of weight. The duration of therapy for children is determined depending on their condition. In most cases, 3-4 days are enough to eliminate acute symptoms.

The result of therapy depends on the patient’s condition and the agents used simultaneously with the solution. Experts note that the medicine is used in a hospital setting. This allows complications to be detected during treatment in a timely manner and eliminated.

Pharmacodynamics. Ringer-Locke solution is a saline plasma replacement fluid. It contains a balanced (isotonic) mixture of the main ions (Na+, K+, Ca+, Cl-, HCO3-) of the blood in appropriate concentrations. The administration of Ringer-Locke solution restores the water-salt balance and eliminates fluid deficiency in the human body, which occurs during dehydration or due to the accumulation of extracellular fluid in areas of extensive burns and injuries, abdominal operations, and peritonitis. Ringer-Locke solution reduces the aggregation of formed elements and blood viscosity, improves its rheological properties and tissue perfusion, which prevents the development of irreversible changes in tissues and increases the effectiveness of blood transfusions in cases of massive blood loss and severe forms of shock. Ringer-Locke solution also has a detoxification effect due to a decrease in the concentration of toxic products in the blood and activation of diuresis.
