How to properly give a cat a deworming pill: 5 proven methods
The most important thing is to try to prevent the cat from experiencing unnecessary stress. Otherwise, it will be more difficult to deworm in the future.
Method No. 1
The easiest way to feed your cat a deworming tablet is to mix the drug with his favorite food. This could be canned food, sour cream, boiled meat or fish. Regular dry food will not work, as the cat will notice something is wrong and leave the tablet in the bowl. The deworming medicine can be placed in a special treat with a cavity for medicine. The attractive smell and appetizing shell will mask the taste of the drug, and the cat will quickly eat it.
For particularly picky pets, you can grind the tablet into powder and mix it with a small amount of food. You must make sure that every last piece is eaten, otherwise there will be no effect. This simple method will help avoid stress for both the owner and the pet.
Not all medications can be taken with food, so you need to read the instructions before starting the procedure.
Method No. 2
The second method is perfect for novice cat owners who don’t know how to give their kitten a pill. The action plan is as follows:
- Grind the tablet into powder.
- Dissolve the powder in a small volume of water (up to 5 ml).
- Draw up the resulting solution with a syringe without a needle.
- Take the cat in your arms, open its mouth and pour the contents of the syringe into its throat.
- Close the animal's mouth and make several stroking movements on the neck to trigger the swallowing reflex.
The procedure can be performed in several stages, giving the animal time to rest. For small kittens, the crushed powder can be poured directly into the mouth without prior dissolution. If the worms do not go away immediately, the procedure is repeated after 2 weeks.
Method No. 3
The classic method is to push the tablet into the animal's mouth. It is advisable to prepare the tablet in advance and calm the pet with stroking. The procedure is carried out as follows:
- Place the cat on your lap with its back to you.
- Open her mouth by lightly pressing two fingers on the points in the corners of her mouth. The remaining fingers hold the head.
- With your other hand, push the tablet as far down your throat as possible.
- Close the cat's mouth and blow on the nose to trigger the swallowing reflex.
Method No. 4
You can save yourself and your pet from grueling manipulations with the help of a tablet dispenser or piller. This is a special design in the form of a syringe with a blunt rubber tip. The procedure is carried out in the following order:
- Fix the tablet in the piller.
- Take your pet in your arms and open his mouth.
- Squeeze the medicine as far into the mouth as possible.
- Keep your mouth closed for 5-7 seconds.
- Pat the throat several times from top to bottom.
This method is ideal for aggressive pets because there is no need to put your fingers in the cat's mouth.
Method No. 5
If your pet is very clawed and you don't know how to feed your cat deworming tablets, try the fixation method. This is one of the most severe, but at the same time atraumatic ways to give medicine to a pet. Before starting the procedure, you need to carefully wrap the cat in a blanket or thick towel so that only the face peeks out. Then open the mouth, push the deworming medicine down the throat, close the mouth and stroke the animal’s throat, stimulating the swallowing reflex.
Caution must be exercised during and after the procedure, especially with wayward pets. They may become angry with the owner and try to bite or scratch him
In order for the deworming procedure to be successful, you need to act quickly and accurately so that the animal does not become alarmed and run away ahead of time.
Recommendations for use
It is not recommended to put your cat on a diet or give a laxative before using Caniquantel in any of its release forms. But there are still certain rules that must be followed when using Kanikquantel. The most important of them include the following :
- It is recommended to give the drug to the cat in the morning, at which time the mustachioed pet experiences an irresistible feeling of hunger and it is difficult for him to notice the catch in the form of a tablet or gel with a piquant taste of meat or fish;
- this must be done before or during meals;
- the amount of food should be small;
- the gel can be given to the cat as usual, or diluted in a small amount of water or added to food;
- You should definitely make sure that the cat eats the prescribed dose, since a small amount of Kanikquantel will be ineffective and will not be able to kill all the parasites, and because of this you will have to repeat the procedure again.
- If you follow all the rules that are indicated in the instructions for using Canikquantel gel or its tablet form, then you and your cat will not have problems with this drug.

Caution for use
The use of Canikquantel plus also has some prohibitions, although this remedy is not harmful to the animal’s body. It is forbidden to give Kanikvantel:
- pregnant cats;
- animals that feed their babies with their milk;
- pets with an allergic reaction to the components that are part of Kanikquantel;
- kittens that were born less than a month ago;
- if you are planning a mating, then this medication must be used no later than 10 days before the planned fertilization;
- if vaccination or treatment is necessary, this drug should also not be used;
- As for preventive measures, they should be carried out at least 2 times a year;
- In order not to harm the animal, you should consult a specialist before using this medication.
It should also be remembered that the interaction of this drug with other medications has not yet been well studied, therefore the use of Caniquantel with other medications is strictly not recommended.
And remember, Kanikquantel plus is prohibited from being given to animals whose meat you will eat. Also, the cat owner himself should be especially careful with this drug, since if it gets into the eyes, it is necessary to rinse them, and if it gets into the mouth, a person can become poisoned.
How to give a cat deworming medication
Cats are finicky pets. Despite the fact that the manufacturer indicated on the tablets that there is a taste of meat, many Muroks and Barsiks cannot be fooled. As a result, all the delicious food was eaten, but the tablet remained in the bowl.
What tricks can you use:
- Assess whether the drug has a specific taste; you can take your sensations as a basis by licking the cut of the broken tablet. If there is no pronounced taste, then you can grind the drug to a powder and mix it with a delicious pate, for example, Felix or Gourmet. A hungry cat will lick everything clean. However, if the drug has a taste, the animal will refuse to eat.
- The medicine can be dipped in sunflower oil and placed in the freezer for a short time. An oily crust will appear on it. Open the animal's mouth, place the tablet in the oil, close it and slightly move it along the throat from the lower jaw to the chest. This will cause a reflexive act of swallowing. After swallowing and licking, open your pet's mouth again and make sure there is no tablet there.
- The method will require simple equipment, but with its help you can easily and quickly give tablets to even cunning and timid cats. You will need medical tweezers with long jaws and a flat joint surface. Hold the tablet or part of it in tweezers. Take the cat by the right ear and turn its face upward. On the left side, move the tweezers with the tablet to the root of the tongue and release the drug. The medication immediately ends up in the esophagus, and the cat doesn’t have time to figure anything out.
- It is convenient to give a suspension or powder dissolved in water from a two-cc syringe. Take the cat by the right ear with your left hand and align the position of the muzzle so that you can see the tongue in the slightly open mouth. Place the syringe on the left side and slowly, without jerking, squeeze its contents onto the root of the tongue.
- If the cat strongly resists and hits the person with its paw, then it may have to be swaddled. This is done in a similar way to swaddling a baby.
Instructions for use and dosage
For prevention, the drug is given quarterly; for treatment, double treatment is carried out with an interval of 7-10 days.
The features of using tablets and gel are different.
Thus, regular capsules (Caniquantel Plus) are given at the rate of 1 piece per 10 kg of weight, tablets with an increased dosage (Caniquantel Plus XL) - 1 piece per 20 kg of weight.
Capsules are fed in the morning on an empty stomach. They are disguised in a piece of delicacy (minced meat, butter, cheese, sausage) or given forcibly: the mouth is opened and the medicine is placed on the root of the tongue. If it is not possible to feed the entire tablet, it is crushed and diluted in 10 ml of water. The solution is thoroughly shaken and administered immediately from a syringe without a needle.
The gel is given at the rate of 0.5 ml per 1 kg (one syringe holds a dosage per 12 kg of animal weight). Feed as follows:
- before giving, adjust the dispenser in accordance with the weight of the dog;
- remove the plug;
- fix the pet between the knees and raise its head up;
- insert the tip of the dispensing syringe into the side of the mouth;
- squeeze out the gel to the mark on the graduation;
- After use, seal the syringe.
Make sure your dog swallows the medicine accurately. To do this, hold the animal’s head up for a couple of minutes and stroke its throat (this stimulates the swallowing reflex). Keep an eye on your pet for the first half hour: especially resourceful dogs hide medicines behind their cheeks, and, as soon as the owner turns away, spit them out.
If your dog does not swallow the medicine or does not eat all of it, repeat the deworming the next day.
Kanikvantel for dogs: pharmacological effects
The veterinary drug for parasites for dogs is available in standard packaging, as well as in tablets for large breeds.
Kanikquantel Plus XL is calculated using a different dosage, but has similar composition and pharmacological properties. The active substances in the tablets are praziquantel in a volume of 50 mg, as well as fenbendazole at least 500 mg per tablet. The principle of the drug’s effect on internal parasites is as follows:
- 2-4 hours after feeding, the tablet begins to dissolve in the stomach, penetrates the circulatory system, and spreads throughout all tissues of the animal’s body.
- When interacting with helminths, praziquantel disrupts their energy metabolism. This leads to destabilization of muscle mass, the inability of worms to feed and reproduce.
- Next, the nerve receptors of the worms are blocked, and they begin to get lost in space.
- At the next stage, fenbendazole comes into effect. It destroys the muscles of adult sexually mature individuals and instantly kills all larvae.
The overall effect of the drugs in combination leads to complete paralysis in adult worms, helping to remove them in a convenient and painless way with fecal matter.
Contraindications and side effects
Kanikquantel has a gentle effect on the cat’s body and has virtually no contraindications. The instructions for use of Kanikquantel for cats indicate that the drug should not be given to:
- Pregnant cats.
- Kittens until they reach 3 months of age.
- Cats and cats who have previously been found to have hypersensitivity to the components of the drug (allergic reactions in any form).
Since the interaction of Kanikquantel with other drugs has not been fully studied, animals should not take other medications during its use.
Usually, the use of the medicine does not in any way affect the well-being and activity of the animal, but in rare cases side effects may occur:
- Vomit.
- Stool disorders (diarrhea).
- Lethargy, weakness and apathy.
These symptoms usually go away quickly. If this does not happen, be sure to contact your veterinarian. In the future, you should choose a different drug for the treatment of helminths.

Cat deworming medications: what to choose
In any pet store, even the smallest one, today you can find at least a dozen different drugs that have a targeted effect against internal parasites. There are anthelmintics in the form of tablets, pastes or suspensions, as well as drops on the withers and even collars that protect the cat from infection. However, the widest selection of medications for worms is presented in solid form, that is, in tablets. Let's look at the most effective and popular drugs.
Table 1. Deworming tablets for cats
Name | Properties, dosage | approximate cost |
"Kanikvantel" | The active ingredients are fenbendazole and praziquantel, effective against various types of parasites. The drug disrupts the functioning of the nerve and muscle endings of worms. Dosage – one tablet per 10 kilograms of cat’s body weight | About 100 rubles per tablet |
"Mibelmax" | Directed against helminths at different stages of development (larvae and mature individuals). The active ingredients are milbemycin and praziquantel. Dosage – one pink tablet per 1-2 kilograms of cat’s body weight, one red tablet per 4-8 kilograms of cat’s body weight | About 450 rubles for two tablets |
"Drontal" | A combined anthelmintic drug containing pyrantel and praziquantel. Destroys cell membranes and muscles of parasites, causes paralysis in round and tape helminths. Dosage – one tablet per 4 kilograms of cat’s body weight | About 300 rubles for two tablets |
"Vermidin" | Destroys nematodes and cestodes, the active ingredients are praziquantel and pyrantel. Effective at all stages of helminth development. Dosage – one tablet per 3 kilograms of cat’s body weight | About 40 rubles for two tablets |

"Dirofen" | Contains praziquantel, pyrantel and febantel. Effective against nematodes, cestodes, mixed infestations. Dosage – one tablet per 5 kilograms of animal body weight | About 150 rubles for six tablets |
"Poliverkan" | It comes in the form of sugar cubes that taste good. Contains niclosamide and oxybendazole. Effective against roundworms, nematodes and cestodes. Dosage – half a cube per 2 kilograms of cat’s body weight | About 80 rubles for one sugar cube |
"Prasitel" | Effective against the main types of roundworms and tapeworms. The active ingredients, praziquantel and pyrantel, cause death and paralysis of parasites. Use one tablet per 4 kilograms of cat's body weight | About 60 rubles for two tablets |
As can be understood from the table, modern anthelmintic tablets have a similar effect and are almost identical in composition. You need to make a choice based on your own financial situation, as well as the recommendations of your veterinarian. Depending on the manufacturer, antiparasitic tablets contain various excipients and also have different dosages. All of the drugs we have listed are broad-spectrum drugs, so any of them will be effective when a cat is infected with internal parasites.
It is best to choose a medicine for helminths on the recommendation of a veterinarian
Mode of application
Tablets are administered to animals orally once in a piece of meat, sausage, with minced meat, porridge or on the root of the tongue, preferably before morning feeding and without the use of laxatives. The drug is given in a dose of 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight. It is necessary to monitor the ingestibility of the drug. In case of refusal of food with an anthelmintic, kaniquantel plus is administered in the form of an aqueous suspension using a syringe or catheter. Canikquantel Plus can be used in puppies and kittens from 3 weeks of age.
Operating principle
Dirofen belongs to complex anthelmintic drugs. The drug is effective against different types of round and tape parasites. Its wide spectrum of action is due to its combined composition:
- Praziquantel
increases the permeability of cell membranes, which leads to muscle contraction and death of parasites. The active substance not only destroys worms, but also promotes their removal from the body naturally. This eliminates the need to do cleansing enemas or give the animal laxatives. It reaches its maximum concentration in the blood in just 1-3 hours, and the substance is removed from the body within a day. - Pyrantel pamoate
is practically not absorbed into the bloodstream. It effectively destroys worms in the intestines. The principle of its action is based on blocking the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of parasites. It is excreted from the body along with feces, mostly unchanged. - Febantel
differs in its principle of action, but is not inferior in effectiveness. The substance disrupts the energy processes of parasites, in particular the production of enzymes and the absorption of glucose - a source of energy for any living organism. It is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and metabolized in the liver, after which it penetrates the intestines along with bile.
The suspension and paste contain pumpkin oil, which has an anthelmintic effect. In addition, a component of natural origin improves stool and helps restore the intestinal mucosa damaged by helminths.
If the recommended doses are observed, the anthelmintic does not cause embryotoxic and teratogenic effects, that is, it does not have a negative effect on the development of the offspring. The components of the drug do not accumulate in the body and do not cause addiction even with frequent use.
Indications for use
The veterinary drug is indicated for the treatment and prevention of nematodes and cestodes, causing diseases such as:
- toxocariasis (caused by round helminths Ascaridata);
- trichinosis (caused by the roundworms Trichinella spirali);
- hookworm (caused by thin nematodes Ancylostoma);
- toxascariasis (caused by the roundworm Toxascaris leonina);
- trichocephalosis (caused by roundworms Trichocephalosis canum);
- taeniasis (provoked by Taenia pisiformis, Taenia hydatigena, Multiceps multiceps);
- dipylidia (or cucumber tapeworm);
- diphyllobothriasis (pathogen: Diphyllobothrium latum);
- mesocestodiasis (caused by the cestode pathogen Mesocestoides lineatus);
- echinococcosis (caused by Echinococcus granulosus);
- uncinariasis (caused by the nematode Uncinaria stenocephala).
After the active components penetrate the gastrointestinal tract, they are absorbed into the cat’s systemic bloodstream. As a result, energy metabolism in the cells of parasites is inhibited, followed by blocking the activity of their nervous system and paralyzing muscles. As a result, the helminths die and are excreted from the body either entirely or in fragments along with the feces. The effect of the drug lasts for 24 hours, then its remnants are eliminated naturally.
Kanikquantel is capable of destroying parasites at any stage of life. If they are not present in the cat’s body, then the active components are simply excreted in the urine during the first two days.
Folk remedies
Before using folk remedies, you should consult a veterinarian. Otherwise, treatment may not only fail to produce results, but may also worsen the condition. Veterinarians resort to alternative medicine when the use of medications is contraindicated. However, there is no scientific evidence that folk methods will get rid of worms.
Attention! Many people use celandine infusion to kill worms. This should not be done under any circumstances.
The plant is intended to be applied to fur and skin to kill fleas and ticks. When taken orally for worms, the infusion will cause severe poisoning, which can be fatal.
Pumpkin seeds
The most common non-traditional treatment method is the use of pumpkin seeds. They contain the amino acid cucurbitin. It is destructive to flat tapeworms, but is absolutely safe for pets. Step by step steps:
- Dried seeds 5 g (dosage for an adult cat), peeled.
- Grind until powdery.
- Mix the resulting mixture with pork fat or purified vegetable oil.
- Feed the mixture to your pet.
- Repeat the manipulation for 5 days. If there is no effect, treatment can be resumed after a month.
Before using such an anthelmintic for adult cats and kittens, you need to make sure that your pet has tapeworms. In other cases, the seeds will be useless.
Garlic
This method is quite controversial. Garlic can help with worms in humans, but can be dangerous for animals. The idea is to feed 1 head of garlic to your pet daily for 5 days.
Onion water
How to use dewormer for cats from onion water:
- Divide the onion into 4 parts.
- Pour a glass of boiling water.
- Give the cat a drink in the morning on an empty stomach for a week.
As in the recipe with garlic, the dosage and the size of the onion for preparation are not indicated. Therefore, supporters of traditional medicine are skeptical about this method. It turns out that a small kitten needs to be given the same volume of infusion as an adult large cat. This may cause poisoning.
Water infusion of tansy
How to prepare an anthelmintic folk remedy for cats
- Pour one tablespoon of dried plant flowers into a glass of boiling water.
- Leave in a warm place for 60 minutes.
- Strain the infusion and give it to the cat 2-3 times a day (1/2 teaspoon per dose).
After using the solution, the animal should not be fed for an hour. Treatment lasts 7 days.
Carrot enemas
Carrot anthelmintic for cats: instructions for use:
- Grind the vegetables on a fine grater or in a juicer.
- Heat the resulting juice to the animal’s body temperature (+38…+39 °C).
- Insert into the anus using an enema. For an adult pet, 20 ml is enough. For a kitten, the dosage should be reduced by approximately 2 times.
- After insertion, press the tail to the anus and hold in this position for 10-15 minutes.
How to do an enema correctly
Note! It is very important to give the animal the correct dosage to avoid intoxication. In conclusion, we can say that any method of getting rid of worms (medical or folk) must be agreed upon with a veterinarian. Anthelmintics for cats and kittens have contraindications
Only a specialist can determine whether treatment is appropriate. He will also select the most effective form of release of the drug: anthelmintic drops, suspensions, tablets, pastes, injections or cubes for cats

Side effects
Many anthelmintics are very difficult for animals to tolerate. By killing parasites, they also injure the body of our pets. Sometimes, after using such drugs, additional treatment may be necessary.
The same cannot be said about “Kanikvantel”. If the instructions were followed, no side effects were observed in animals. But the manifestation of allergic reactions depends on the individual characteristics of the animal’s body. Sometimes individual components of the drug can cause short-term vomiting or diarrhea. As a rule, such manifestations do not require additional treatment; they soon go away on their own. But if you notice that your cat is feeling worse, don’t waste time - go to the veterinary clinic.
Advantages of the drug
"Kaniquantel" is successfully used for the prevention and treatment of helminthic infestations in cats, and is a popular drug because it has the following advantages:
- Individual approach - tablets and gel "Kanikvantel" are available with the taste of fish or meat, so animals willingly take it with food. The owner only needs to choose the right filler.
- You can easily calculate how to give Kanikquantel Plus. The instructions for use included with each package contain all the necessary recommendations for administration and dosage.
- The price of the drug is quite affordable - 63 rubles per tablet or 960 rubles per gel. This allows you to carry out worm prevention once a quarter, preventing the development of diseases that can be caused by helminths.
- If all dosage recommendations are followed, the drug has a very gentle effect on the cat’s body, while effectively eliminating parasites and is a wonderful preventative.
Contraindications and precautions
This remedy is also not given to pregnant cats and those animals that have previously demonstrated hypersensitivity to the composition of the drug.
In all other cases, Kanikquantel for cats does not produce side effects even with a slight overdose. But if you observe vomiting, weakness, or gastrointestinal disorders in your pet, then take measures to remove the drug from the body.
The drug is considered mild and generally does not cause side effects in animals. This is evidenced by kanikquantel plus reviews from cat owners who used it to deworm their pets. But it has contraindications. Should not be given to animals that: have not reached the age of three months;
If canikquantel is given, it is not recommended to use drugs that contain piperazine at the same time. Otherwise, its effectiveness may be reduced. If after taking the medicine the cat’s well-being is still observed, this indicates that it has a severe stage of helminthiasis.
READ The dog has a runny nose, sneezes and snorts: how to treat it and what to do?
When there are many parasites in the body, it cannot quickly get rid of them. The worms die, but are not immediately excreted from the intestines. The toxins released during this process poison the body, which affects the health of animals. In this case, you need to consult a doctor to prescribe additional medications.
When the cat owner carries out the preparatory process to give the drug to the pet, the following rules must be observed: work in medical gloves: avoid direct contact with the drug; if it gets on open areas of the body or mucous membranes, they should be washed with water and soap; if allergic reactions occur reactions or ingestion of the drug, you should go to the hospital; packages must be disposed of.
The product must not be used:
- lactating cats;
- pregnant pets.
If you follow the instructions, side effects are possible only if you are individually intolerant.
Owner reviews
We picked up a one-month-old puppy near a neighboring enterprise and purchased Canikquantel tablets to cleanse his body. The medicine helped very well, especially since in the future it was necessary to get vaccinations. We carefully followed the instructions for Kanikquantel for dogs. I liked the price and reviews that I read on the Internet.
Larisa, Yeysk
Our Seagull became infected with worms and became lethargic and did not play with the children. At the same time, she ate poorly and her stool was unstable. The veterinarian diagnosed worms and prescribed Kanikvantel. The effect of the drug appeared the next day: the stomach was deflated, and the next day dead parasites were found in the stool.
Svetlana, Moscow
My hunting husky needs regular vaccinations, and before that I need to worm her.
We tried many drugs, but settled on Canikquantel gel syringes. The dog didn’t want to eat the tablets, but you simply inject the jelly into the mouth, then it goes inside the body, which is very convenient. Alexander
Contraindications
It is forbidden to give the drug to a dog if it is underweight. Usually the medication is not prescribed to an animal whose weight is less than 2 kg. The product is also contraindicated in pregnant females. It is strictly forbidden to give medication during the first half of the female’s pregnancy.
Drontal is contraindicated for dogs during their rehabilitation after surgery. It is also not recommended to give the drug to weakened animals. The medicine should not be prescribed to dogs during the course of various infections of a viral or bacterial nature.
The drug should not be taken by newborn puppies less than 2 weeks old. It is necessary to coordinate the use of medication with a veterinarian if your pet has chronic pathologies of the heart, gastrointestinal tract, liver and kidneys.
Overdose and interaction
Anthelmintic for dogs and cats should be given strictly in the recommended dosage. Many owners, in order to get a quick effect, increase the dose of the medicine, which causes poisoning of the body. In this case, pets may experience uncontrollable vomiting from Kanikquantel, which is accompanied by depression and drowsiness. In small kittens, an overdose can cause convulsions and seizures.
Manufacturers do not recommend treating cats and dogs simultaneously with Caniquantel Plus and Piperazine. Also, you cannot combine two drugs based on the same active ingredients to avoid overdose.
The active ingredients of Kanikquantel are:
- praziquantel – 50 mg, in XL form – 100 mg, in gel – 60 mg;
- fenbendazole – 500 mg, in XL form – 1000 mg, in gel – 600 mg.
Additional substances: soluble povidone, iron oxide (red dye), flavor (meat or fish), croscarmellose-Na, lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate.
Kanikvantel plus has a detrimental effect on the nervous and muscular systems of parasites at all stages of development. Praziquantel completely depolarizes muscle cells, which leads to paralysis of the worms. Fenbendazole blocks ATP synthesis, disrupting energy metabolism, which also leads to the death of nematodes and their subsequent removal from the animal’s body.

The anthelmintic drug "Kaniquantel" differs from many other anthelmintics in its rather mild but highly effective effect on the pet's body, so compliance with the dosage, as a rule, does not cause side effects. At the same time, a special formula supplemented with magnesium, lauryl sulfate, iron oxide, povidone, flavorings and starch not only significantly facilitates the process of oral administration, but also minimizes the risk of developing undesirable consequences.
If a dog experiences allergic reactions on the skin, nausea or vomiting, signs of drowsiness or unmotivated nervousness, as well as other side effects, it is assumed that it will be completely replaced with drugs similar in composition and mechanism of action. Such recommended veterinary drugs against worms include Azinox, Milbemax and Drontal, as well as Pratel and Triantel.
In case of an overdose of the drug "Kaniquantel", pets experience vomiting and loose stools, and the absence of positive dynamics within 24 hours will require a visit to a veterinary clinic.

Side effects and contraindications
Caniquantel is a low-toxic drug, does not have a cumulative effect, does not have a hepatotoxic effect, and does not cause allergies. Therefore, side effects are observed extremely rarely and only if the recommended dosage is exceeded or in case of hypersensitivity to the active components of the anthelmintic.
After deworming, carefully monitor the condition of your pet for two to three days. Possible side effects include:
- refusal of food;
- skin rashes;
- disturbance of digestive processes, foamy vomiting, diarrhea;
- profuse drooling;
- decreased physical activity;
- slight increase in general body temperature.
If the symptoms described above do not go away on the second or third day, contact your veterinarian immediately. The dog will be prescribed another effective anthelmintic (Melbimax, Drontal), and detoxification therapy will be carried out.

Advantages of the drug
The manufacturer offers a choice of gel or tablets - and this is a big advantage, because not everyone can put a tablet into a cat without the risk of being scratched or bitten.
Also, both gels and tablets have an attractive aroma of meat or fish, which increases their edible properties.
Cat owners who have tried to fight worms with Kanikvatel note in their reviews a number of positive qualities of the product:
- convenient dosage, especially if you buy “Kanikvatel plus” in the form of a gel;
- various forms. Cats willingly eat the meat-flavored tablets themselves. They can be crushed and added to food, or prepared as a suspension. Gel with a fishy smell is easy to give even to a kitten without prior preparation;
- high efficiency.
