About the cattery of rare breeds

History of the origin of the breed

In 1930, breeders Marion Dorsey and Helen Smith proposed a new selective method of breeding offspring from Siamese cats. A litter of purebred Siamese produced long-haired kittens, which were initially discarded. After 2 years, scientists decided to cross them with each other. The result of the selection showed that the cats of the new breed have changed not only their external characteristics, but also their temperament. The path to the formation of the breed:

  • 1963 - the animals were given the official name “Longhaired Siamese”;
  • 1965 - official registration of Balinese cats;
  • 1967 - development of the first standard;
  • 1968 - name change;
  • 1970 - registration with the Cat Fanciers' Association and TICA, clarification of the standard;
  • 1972 - official recognition of the breed by the FIFe association.

The Balinese breed in England was bred in all colors. The founders of American cat shows only allow animals with lilac, chocolate, dark brown or blue shades into the ring. Males and females with a different color are called Javanese, but conditionally this breed can be considered Balinese.

History of the origin of Balinese cats

The breed got its name thanks to breeders who associated these cats with graceful girls who danced beautifully in Indonesian temples on the island of Bali.

People were primarily surprised by the incredible resemblance of the elegant animals to the lovely dancers of Asian origin.

The Balinese breed did not receive official world recognition for quite a long time. For the first time, cats belonging to this breed were allowed to participate in exhibitions in the USA in 1970. However, after a very short period of time, Balinese cats had the opportunity to participate in demonstration performances of purebred cats that took place in all corners of the globe.

Breed characteristics

Characteristics of Balinese cats on a 5-point scale:

  • intelligence - 4/5;
  • ability to get along with other pets - 4/5;
  • care - 4/5;
  • relationships with strangers - 4/5;
  • relationships with children - 4/5;
  • love of meowing - 3/5;
  • playfulness - 4/5;
  • health - 2/5;
  • hair loss - 3/5.

Representatives of this breed are as active as representatives of the Kurilian Bobtail cat breed , but rarely express their desires by meowing. Veterinarians recommend carefully monitoring your pet’s health in order to prevent the development of chronic pathologies in time.

Caring for a Balinese cat

Caring for a pet is not difficult; for this you will need:

  • brushing the coat every week;
  • inspection and timely cleaning of the cat’s ears and eyes.

If you can allow your animal to walk in the fresh air under your strict control, this is very good.

Caring for a Balinese cat has only one feature - you need to very carefully monitor the condition of the teeth by visiting a veterinarian, because these cats are prone to gum inflammation and the appearance of tartar.

Character

Cats and cats are extremely loyal to their owner. They allow you to walk yourself on a comfortable leash. Pets take part in any games, they are peaceful and affectionate. Adults are touchy, they require a gentle and attentive attitude towards themselves. They get along well with children and are friends with adults. They allow themselves to be picked up without showing any aggression.

Animals love to sleep with their owners. High intelligence, quickly find hidden toys. They open cabinet doors with their paws and jump high, which allows them to get objects from high shelves. They are calmer in temperament than Siamese and not as vindictive as their counterparts. If the pet is hungry, it will follow its owner and loudly demand food. They love warmth and are neutral towards dogs.

A person should pay maximum attention to the pet. Being alone for a long time, the animal gets sick, becomes apathetic and lethargic, so experts recommend buying a Balinese playmate of the same breed. It must be remembered that same-sex individuals do not get along well with each other. They are amenable to training, learn simple commands, and quickly become accustomed to order in the house.

ABOUT THE BALINESE

Their characteristic feature is devotion to the owner. They are energetic and gentle, they become attached to their owners and love to participate in all their household chores. They get along well with children and other animals. These kitties are very talkative and have a soft, pleasant voice. They do not like loneliness, so they are suitable for people who spend most of their time at home. Get along well with all family members. Balinese cats are fluffier than Siamese cats and more docile. They are excellent hunters, so they need to move more. If they tolerate transportation well, then it is advisable to take them with you to nature (dacha).

This breed was developed as a semi-longhaired variety of the Siamese cat in the 1960s in California.

Health

The Balinese have inherited some pathologies from their ancestors, which, if diagnosed in a timely manner, can be cured or make the pet’s life easier. Most often, representatives of this breed are diagnosed with dental diseases, pathologies of the cardiovascular system, disorders of protein synthesis in the liver and kidneys (amyloidosis), strabismus, asthma and joint dysplasia. Balinese cats may suffer from diabetes, the main symptoms of which include:

  • increased appetite or decreased appetite;
  • frequent urination;
  • extreme thirst;
  • weight gain or loss;
  • presence of acetone in the blood;
  • mood swings (from apathy to aggression).

Asthma can be recognized by the following signs:

  • wheezing when breathing;
  • coughing;
  • lethargy;
  • vomiting;
  • throat expansion;
  • apathy.

With joint dysplasia, the animal may lose the ability to move normally. Strabismus does not affect the health of the animal; it cannot be completely eliminated.

Care and maintenance

Balinese are unpretentious eaters and do not require special care. The beauty of the breed can be maintained using standard procedures:

  • daily brushing;
  • rubbing the eyes (as mucus accumulates);
  • weekly ear cleaning.

You need to bathe your pet no more than once every 2 weeks; you can use special shampoos, which are sold in a wide range at any pet store. Cats are extremely clean, so they are able to take care of themselves; their fur rarely gets tangled, which makes combing easier. They prefer to live in apartments; being on the street without an owner is dangerous. As the breed improved, most of the natural instincts were lost, so climatic conditions can negatively affect the color of the animal.

Natural food and special food are suitable for feeding. If a breeder decides to give a pet dry food, then it is necessary to pay attention to the quality of the product. Premium food is considered the most suitable; it contains meat and does not contain potato starch. The diet should contain carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and proteins. With natural feeding, Balinese are given assorted meats, cereals and vegetables.

It is best to give preference to one type of food, or dry food. Brands cannot be changed. Experts advise monitoring your pet’s drinking regime: there must be fresh water in his bowl. Animals love milk, so it is given to pets every day.

Where to buy and how much does a kitten cost?

You need to buy kittens from nurseries. They are born completely white, the color changes as they grow older, the end areas are completely colored after 3-4 weeks. Month-old kittens are short-haired, with large ears. Veterinarians recommend buying a kitten at 12-15 weeks: during this period, the color is fully formed. For Russia, the breed is considered rare, so it is necessary to make inquiries in advance about breeders selling Balinese kittens.

The price of a kitten may vary depending on the age, pedigree and elitism of the cattery. If a person plans to purchase a companion cat, then its price will be 15,000-16,000 rubles. Animals from purebred parents that will take part in exhibitions cost from 20,000 rubles.

Kennels that value their reputation offer owners to get to know their future pet in advance. They test for genetic diseases. Most often, parents are checked for possible deviations from the norm. The cost of a single test is $35-40, so private breeders rarely conduct it.

When completing a transaction, the owner is provided with a package of accompanying documents, which include:

  • veterinary passport with vaccinations;
  • pedigree containing information about the name and date of birth of the kitten;
  • contract of sale.

Before you buy a kitten, you need to conduct an external examination. The animal must be active, have a clean, silky coat without scratching or bald spots. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the ears, eyes and anus.

Breeding

Sexual maturity in cats of this breed occurs at 8-10 months. The first mating should be carried out no earlier than 18 months in males and 12 months in females. Estrus in females lasts 6-7 days, they become active, irritable or, conversely, more affectionate: cats can rub against legs or furniture, roll on the floor and meow loudly. For mating, veterinarians recommend taking the cat to the partner’s territory on the 2-3rd day of estrus. To get purebred kittens, you need to look for a male in advance. The breeder will help you find a suitable pair.

After mating has occurred, the owner of the male sire issues a certificate indicating the day of mating and the expected date of birth of the litter. The owner of the female receives a copy of the male's pedigree and promises to report the mating results in a timely manner. The owners agree on a fee, which includes a fee for services, the cost of housing and feeding the female. The reward depends on the type of housing in which the male lives, his exhibition awards and popularity. In most cases, cat owners are paid with maintenance for the kitten.

If the owner does not plan to breed the breed, then he needs to take care of sterilization of the cat in advance. After maturation, the animal will begin to actively mark its territory, damage furniture, and its character will change: the pet may become more aggressive. Veterinarians offer several types of sterilization operations that are completely safe for health and relieve the animal of sexual desire. 7 days after surgery, the male or female returns to their normal lifestyle.

Pros and cons of the breed

Any breed has advantages and disadvantages, on the basis of which a person decides whether to have a pet or not. The advantages include:

  • popularity of the breed;
  • attractive appearance and gracefulness of cats;
  • melodic voice;
  • friendly character;
  • high degree of affection of pets to the owner;
  • love of animals for children;
  • non-conflict and neutral attitude of the cat towards other pets;
  • ability to remember simple commands;
  • lack of special care.

The disadvantages of Balinese include the difficulty in purchasing and the high cost of a kitten. It is difficult to find a suitable partner for mating in a small city. Representatives of this breed are susceptible to genetic diseases that cannot be completely cured. Veterinarians do not recommend having Balinese kittens for people whose work activities involve frequent business trips.

About the cattery of rare breeds

“Time spent with a cat is never wasted.”

M. Sarton

Welcome to the cattery of rare breeds of cats!

For the second decade now, we have been breeding purebred cats. In 2002, the first Abyssinian kitten appeared in my life and won my heart forever. This is the first cat, Nefertiti, who came from Yekaterinburg and marked the beginning of my passion for Abyssinians, now at a professional level. Abyssins are special cats that fall outside the generally accepted concept of cats in general. “A dog in a cat’s guise” - this characterizes abikov like nothing else - high intelligence and devotion are usually considered to be the traits of a dog. An English proverb says that “if you want to have a dog, but don’t want to walk it, then get an Abyssinian.” We can talk endlessly about this breed, as well as about cats in general...

As time passed, the Abyssinian breed will forever remain number one for me, but the breeder is always developing. I became interested in other breeds that would also suit my temperament. And so I settled on Devon Rex. These amazing elves in curly coats with huge ears like butterflies and curious eyes. Not cats, but sheer charm, sweet, gentle, affectionate, maybe a little calmer than abiks, but with the same high intelligence and sociable disposition.

And now meet the third breed - the Egyptian Mau. Grace, self-sufficiency, mysticism - these are magnificent Mau. At the moment, this is one of the rarest and most desirable breeds in Russia.

At first glance it may seem that they are such different breeds. But…. There is something that undoubtedly unites them. These are very affectionate, intelligent and devoted cats, highly human-oriented, loyal to other pets, do not have aggression, are playful and dynamic, easy to keep and care for.

You can learn more about each breed in the section Abyssinian cats, Devon Rex, Egyptian Mau, Chausie and Toyger, where you can familiarize yourself with ours and “Our cats” in detail. You can choose the kitten you like in the “ kittens for sale ” section. You can see kittens from previous litters in the “Our kittens in new homes” section. You can also learn a lot of useful things by reading our articles.

We are registered with FARUS, CFA, TICA.

The parents of our animals were purchased from the best nurseries in the USA and Europe.

We love our cats very much, we treat them with great care and attention, all cats live with us and are part of our family. The goal of the nursery is to produce high-quality litters based on breed characteristics with good health and a stable psyche, people-oriented, and the popularization of the breeds that we deal with. Our animals and graduates regularly participate in exhibitions and confirm this.

Our cattery of rare breeds of cats is subject to veterinary care, all necessary tests are taken (there are certificates of the absence of infectious and viral diseases, genetic tests), timely deworming and vaccination are carried out.

The cats receive both organic food and professional industrial premium and super premium food, so they are always in excellent shape. Our cats are well-mannered and neat, accustomed to all hygiene procedures, which is important when raising kittens.

We offer for sale only healthy, well-bred kittens, socially adapted, accustomed to all hygiene procedures and scratching posts.

Currently, our nursery is a team of cat lovers, owners of purebred animals of exclusive bloodlines. We work as a close-knit union, with the participation of experienced felinologists and veterinarians, and are members of several felinological organizations. Collateral provision: Receipt

Reviews from owners of Balinese cats

Valentin, 24 years old, Samara

When she came of age, her parents gave her a kitten of the Balinese breed. Before that time, I had never owned an animal, so I didn’t know how to care for it. I read the literature, bought a scratching post, combs and special shampoos.

The kitten grew quickly, at first he was given dry food, but after a prolonged intestinal disorder he switched to natural food. The animal is affectionate, loves to play and sleeps in the same bed with its owner. I try to comb it every 2-3 days, I bathe the animal once a week. The cat is clean and quickly learned to use the litter box.

Irina, 43 years old, Ekaterinburg

My son asked me to buy a pet. We spent a long time choosing and decided to buy a Balinese kitten. They searched for a nursery for a long time and found it in a nearby large city. A breeder came to meet us and told us what to look for when buying an animal. All accompanying documents were issued, the kitten had a slightly uneven color, so the price was slightly reduced.

The cat is growing quickly, we try to feed only the food that the veterinarian has selected. The animal is playful, active, loves to play hide and seek, and can run around rooms all day. He got used to the tray within a few days, and tolerates bathing steadily, without disturbance.

Personality of Balinese cats

A Balinese cat certainly cannot become just a decoration for your home. She is a very energetic and active animal, with a sharp mind and courage, as well as a well-developed hunter's instinct. It will be difficult for this pet to live in a small apartment, because it constantly needs space to run, play and climb. So, if your home does not have a special play area for cats, be prepared for the furniture and some interior items to suffer greatly.

The Balinese cat is very attached to people and loves to communicate with them. She is able to find a common language with both children and other pets, but on condition that the communication is mutually respectful. The cat loves to be in the center of events, always follows its owner and pokes its curious nose everywhere.

Balinese are really talkative and even somewhat musical - they do not shout, but clearly and with appropriate intonations talk about various events and how they regard them. In addition, they absolutely love sitting proudly on the windowsill, discussing with the owner everything that happens outside the window.

As a rule, Balinese cats quickly get used to a new place and take on the role of master of the situation.

You need to remember that such a pet is not a weak-willed toy at all, you can communicate with it for a long time, but do not allow yourself to squeeze it rudely and disrespectfully, regardless of its opinion. In this case, the animal will not show delicacy, but will simply bite or scratch the violator of personal space painfully.

If a Balinese is punished very severely, much less undeservedly, he may be mortally offended. The cat reacts sharply to screams and swearing, so you need to act here gently and carefully, but persistently.

Balinese cats with their character will be ideal friends and companions for energetic and sociable people who spend a lot of time at home, or for large and cheerful families.
